I rent vehicles for business purposes on a regular basis. I cannot fault the HILLINGDON / UXBRIDGE branch. My car is always ready and spotlessly clean and the staff are super friendly and make the rental process quick and easy. I'm often upgraded and am always offered a lift home or to my place of business. My only problem is that the price differs largely between this branch and the London Heathrow branch which is only two miles away. I can save as much as £40 on a weekly rental just... (read more)

I rented a car from the Scarborough branch with a drop of next day at Braintree branch. Picked up the car o/k after a quick walk round the car. When I parked the car at my mothers it was offside to the kerb, trip to Whitby offside parked next to a hand rail, returned home and parked on my drive. I hired a car from the BRENTFORD branch of Enterprise Cars. The car had a chip in the windscreen. Within two days into the hire the chip developed into foot long crack. Enterprise replaced the car, and were full of apologies. When I return the car after a week of hire all the staff were concerned about was me giving them a five star rating for service. We had made a reservation through the web for two cars ; one was of lesser standard than the other ; and when we picked up the cars at the front desk, we were kindly offered an upgrade on the smallest car ! I was charged £600 for a 6 inch scratch that was already on the car as I took it, the employee told me - don't worry about it as long as it could be polished we don't pay attention to that. I hired a car from Enterprise/Atesa in Valencia airport in April 2013. Pick up and Car were all okay. When I dropped the car there was no one to receive it or at the kiosk. I dropped the keys in the drop-off box but not the car documentation as I thought that it belonged to me. A month later I noticed an extra charge on my credit card. My son rented a car on the 26th May which should have been collected on 29th May. It is stuck in our driveway causing a nuisance. He was told he can't now move it as it isn't insured. It's now a week since it should have been collected. Made 4 calls to the most useless customer service team I have ever dealt with. Their only mission appears to be to fob you off. Had the worst possible experience with Enterprise. Hired a van about a month in advance, received a single voicemail the night before I was supposed to start the hire period saying that they had no vans as vans are not allocated to depots until the day before. This van was for my wedding, and absolutely no obvious warning was given that this might be a possible outcome. I hired a car from Enterprise rent a car in Waltham Abbey, the hire only lasted 48 hours. When I brought the car back, the Sales person informed me of a scratch which was under the front bumper.. The same happened to me today, ive had a van from them for two weeks and when i took it back today they said there is a scratch and a dint over the rear wheel arch? total news to me but then one of them sdid there is a scratch reported on a previous rental now mine was only £50 to pay but its left a bad taste in the mouth, i certainly will not be using them again and would say the same advice as you say to anyone thinking of renting from them, check thouroughly and photo if possible any defect you see before you drive off

Happened to me too today. Returned a van after 6 hours use and they tried to blame 3 separate areas of damage on me, pointing out that none of them were listed on the sign out sheet. I then pointed out further damage that they hadn’t spotted but was also not listed on the sign out sheet. They refused to return my deposit. They checked the system and said that none of the damage was listed on the system.
Fortunately I took a video of the whole van while they were showing me round before the hire started and all of the damage they claim was my responsibility is all present in the video. They accepted this as proof except for one area which didn’t show clearly when playing back the video on my phone, which they said was an outward crease on the back door caused by an impact; however it matched precisely one on the opposite door. Still didn’t get my deposit back immediately, they claimed it takes 24 hours to process the deposit refund. They said they’ll need to get a specialist to inspect the ‘crease’. So after an hour of them desperately trying to fill out a damage report I left stating that I didn’t accept responsibility for the damage.
Of course, on returning home and viewing the video on a 24” screen you can clearly see the ‘creases’ on both doors, which to me just look like the original shape of the door.
I got the impression the minute I returned the vehicle that they were desperate to find something to charge me extra for. It’s certainly the last time I use Enterprise. I just feel sorry for anyone who finds themselves at the mercy of this company who hasn’t got the evidence to prove that the damage was already there at the start of the hire, and for the next poor sap that hires that van who will probably get billed for this pre-existing damage.

I would suggest calling the damage unit team.speak to a lady there called [name removed]..she is lovely..one of the few decent employees at ERAC.

ERAC rent car very cheaply and then they have this was of doing people out of their money..
I did a search there are literally hundreds of similar cases in the UK and thousands in the US..
I have written to the BBC's Watchdog program and am in touch with one of the directors of the company!
Its a disgrace!!!

Rented a car from enterprise. First of all they refused to pick me up although they claim to do so. With a reason stating: "we only pick up customers with in 1 mile range". I reserved a car from Enterprise Wolverhampton (Birmingham Road Branch) for a couple of days. When I got there the staff member was very pleasant and helpful. The paper work was sorted out very quickly and I was on my way. I needed to keep the car for a few more days and called there office. This was done with ease over the phone. I rented a van from Enterprise for a day, Actually 5 hours. I drove it 115 kilometers. When I was given the van the gas guage read between empty and 1/4 full. So I guess 1/8 full. I put 18 dollars gas into and it returned to where the needle showed when I recieved the van. I've rented several times from the Kilmarnock branch (and once from Bedford, Texas) and I have been more than happy with both the cost (weekend specials are extra-special value) and the service. In fact, the last rental I had was to go to the Cheltenham Festival from Scotland. All was fine until trying to get back to the hotel from the racecourse. I can not believe this rental company. I will NEVER rent from them again. I pre booked a car online to lock in a price for a week while I was in Texas. They supposedly had the lowest prices. I've just had my my car picked up (black passatt) and exactly the same has happened to me. The damage was so strategic and so slight that Joe public would miss it (side bumper). I only got suspicious when the guy who picked it up went straight to the 'damage' and pointed it out to me. He didn't even go anywhere else around the car. I challenged him on that point and he just said 'you signed for no damage and now there is damage'. I fortunately only had £50 excess and have managed to cancel my card with my own bank within minutes of them driving it off. I'm going to B'ham Trading standards when i get back off holiday. 4 weeks after the vehicle was returned they have discovered all 4 tyres were damaged. If you Google Enterprise and tyres you will see that this is very common for this company. I work for a huge multi-national company and will do my utmost to change the vehicle hire company. (read more)

Rented a car for one day. Got back very late after driving all day. While reversing into a parking space just touched a van with the bottom of the front wing. Just a tiny scuff mark. The kind of mark you can fix yourself for £20. Took the car back and they said the car needed to be 'repaired'. A week later they told me they had charged me £368. Yesterday(19/3/13) we hired a Ford Transit from Bexhill branch, returning it today. Both times at reception we had excellent, courteous and efficient service. The van we had was brand new (50 miles on the clock) and a joy to drive. The cost was more than reasonable. I would highly recommend this company. (read more)

This was nothing like my experiences at Hertz. At Enterprise I waited at least 20 minutes to get the car and this was with no one in line ahead of me. We had been picked up in another car and they took so long that one of the employees drove off in the car with our stuff in it. I needed to hire a car at short notice due to my own car breaking down. I went to the Winchester branch, next to the station having looked at prices and ID requirements online. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional. The car was ideal for the circumstance and good value for money. Reading the reviews on this site has made want to comment and really just bring people to reality. I am a great fan of driving, I own a very powerful BMW myself and for work purposes my company rents me cars through enterprise all the time. For years I have been a customer at London Waterloo and the guys are amazing yes the staff turn around is suspiciously quick but talking to the guys they get promoted up the chain rather quickly. Recently I hired a car from Enterprise just outside Uxbridge.I trusted the guy who recorded the damages and drove off only to find that there was damage just below the eye line,under the door.Walking around the car one would not be able to see the damage.When I returned the car I was charged £250 excess.I protested my innocence only to be asked if I had driven over a rock.I will never recommend Enterprise to anybody in any country! Got there with all forms of I.d, checked them over then said they had to do a check on my address which apparently come back that they could not rent to me but could not tell me why. This has just happened to me - hired car 1st October 2012 after sustaining accident and Aviva arranged for Enterprise to supply car. The vehicle had 7304 miles on the clock. Now it is 18th February and the Recovery Unit are claiming over 300 pounds for damage to underside of tyre carrier!! The car is now in Sussex and has 12209 miles on clock - who has been driving it since?? I too will be taking it up strongly with all parties concerned and I wish you well.

Stay in touch through this thread. I have already taken legal advice as i said i would, and in their opinion, with the evidence available, the Small Claims Court can only find in my favour. If you want to know the advice, I'll let you know the details away from here, but If i have to go to court before you, i'll post the verdict here.
Interestingly, I also discussed this in an open office forum today; amazing how many people have had similar experiences with the same company.

I have had a result already!! I phoned and adised I was recording the conversation and disputing vehemantly their claim for damage to vehicle. Long story cut short they said that they were claiming for a missing tyre, whichIi accept was not with vehicle when collected but I dd have a written piece of paper on Enterprise letterhead advising that I had not taken tyre with vehicle. After advising that I would need allpapers relevant to case if persued - under the freedom of Information act - and that my insurance company who I have legal aid with will you fight on my behalf. I received a call 1 hour later advising that in view of the confusion over the claim, the fact it was 5 months ago and I have certain paperwork that they did not have they agreed to drop the case. I insisted on written confirmation and duly recived an email advising they had closed case. My concern is that any one who was more intimidated than myself may very well have either paid up or suffered untold mental pressure resulting in who knows what. I have been fortunate - lucky or just downright persuasive but I hope you also succeed in your case.

It has apparently been a pretty good day for both of us. In case the opening is removed for over familiarity. (Removed) is a good place to start the small man revolution.
I also had a result today; via a different track to you, but hopefully this should encourage others to take on them and those of similar ilk. There is apparently more than one way to defeat them and the more options there are, the better for the type of character you allude to in your post.
In my case. VW (Hiring Company) have taken on board my concerns, and have sent me an email stating that they totally believe my position (that means a huge amount to me - it was never about the £250, though that was bad enough!). They have 'instructed' Enterprise, as THEIR supplier that the standards have fallen well below those of VW, and to reimburse the £250 and assured me in writing that my No Claims is unaffected.
They have also accepted my offer to provide a full report (I work in Business Improvements) that might prevent future and similar occurrences, and have confirmed that they would never expose me to Enterprise again, in the event that my circumstances required a hire vehicle to be provided.
Enterprise for their part have tried to worm their way through this matter, by counter claiming that I did have a full inspection handover, pre-hire and provided 'witness statements' that 'back up' their claim. They even "helped me to move my possessions from one vehicle to another", and "in the rain"!!
Unbelievable!!
So well done on your success, it is comforting to know @ that somebody else out there virgin cares about more than just themselves and refuses to bow to big business.
Q: Do I reply the - "Social Mediator Coordinator" for Enterprise?
A: I just might. If they are truly repentant, then they might just reimburse me for the day I took off on Monday to sort this matter!

Thank you for your reply I will be in touch and try to get as many details as I can but this hiring was in 2010 and I may have discarded the rental agreement by now. I am glad you are happy to help, but in view of all the adverse reviews you have been receiving I think you will agree that Enterprise need to address their shortcomings and do something about turning matters around. The second vehicle I returned to Manchester, as with all the vehicles I hire, could have been hired straight out , but this is the main point why was the vehicle not received in the same condition.

My new Mini develpoed a fault and had to go in for repair. No problem as mini assist sorted out a replacement car through Enterprise. When picking the car up the chap asked me to check the bodywork for scratches and dents etc. The car was a bmw 3 series and a 12 plate and in perfect condition. I rented a Renault van for work for rental, and in the process had a little scratch/rub on the paint work. The scratch did not cut in to the paint, but little paint was rubbed off. I took the car for assessment before return and garages around the area gave me a cost estimate of 310 pounds.
