“Overall a good experience.”

Rented a car from Budget Sep 1 . The rate they offered was the least expensive. Wanted initially to rent from Sixth Rent a car but they do not have an office at the terminal and they were supposed to wait for us upon arrival. However they did not show up perhaps because our flight was delayed. Budget gave us an extra driver option without charge. The car had already some scratches and dents which was noted by Budget before we rented the car. We also took pictures of the car before going out. I noted that the front left wheel was worn out. The Budget people apologized and changed all the car's wheel within 15 minutes and gave us a free GPS for the trip. The GPS was very helpful. The compact car we rented performed very well. We got extra ash and gravel insurance but had no damage through the 11 days trip. We had no extra charges when we returned the car. Overall a good experience.

“No problems”

★★★★☆

written by on 15/07/2014

I used an online broker to get the best deal- and it suggested Budget. I wanted a car at CDG airport, Paris for a fortnight. All the rental agencies were in the same Portacabin and I discovered that Avis and Budget shared everything. In fact, the paperwork was all on Avis headed paper. I had no problem picking up the car- and it proved to be a high-end spec- more so than I had paid for. And I wasn't charged more (this at the start of July and including 14/07- peak holiday time). I returned the car full of fuel as requested and received a receipt as proof, after someone from Avis had done all the necessary checks. The most problematical part of the whole process was negotiating the roads in and around the airport. We dropped off at Terminal 2 C/D even though we'd picked up at Terminal E/F- no problem. There were no extra charges put on my card. And it proved very good value.

After reading negative reviews I felt that I had to have my say on Budget Car rental (Avis) the service I received in Bournemouth was excellent and hassle free. I needed a car whilst mine was being fixed and was given a brand new Fiat 500 for a bargain price I cannot fault it, extension was a simple phone call and I would definitely recommend it to friends and family!

“I would use Budget again”

★★★★☆

written by on 02/10/2013

I hired a car from Budget (Manchester Pic city centre location)and had a very good experience, far better than Europcar, who I found just awful and unprofessional. From the moment I collected the vehicle I was greeted with a friendly face in the advisor! He was very helpful and professional in his approach and would recommend this company to a friend or company in the future. Well done! All positive feedback, no negatives from my second experience.

“Ireland - great service”

★★★★☆

written by reviewzz on 30/12/2012

Really nice staff at both Dublin and Shannon airport. Allowed us pick up the car a few hours early with no extra charge - picked it up from Dublin and left it back in Shannon and the staff were happy to take the note from the guy in Dublin and ignore the time we were supposed to leave it back due to picking up early. All very very easy. I was offered an upgrade too but didn't take it as I need to use a manual and the upgrade was an automatic. The car was 2010, which is unusual for a hire car as they're normally newer. Nice car, although full of scratches but this meant any new scratches (there were none) would go unnoticed/unproven so that was fine. High excess though - around €1300 - so I took the insurance for €10 a day for 7 days. Make sure you say which airline you flew as they have a discount if you have flown with Aer Lingus.

“Advice to U”

★★★★☆

written by on 15/06/2011

I am surprised to see so many bad reviews here. I had used Budget on many occasions, the last two in September 2010 and February 2011, both for about 2 weeks. It is a budget offer so one cannot expect too much. The car, a Ford Focus, was relatively new but evidence of use (scratches) was all over the body. That was understandable after snow season. So I went over the body with a Budget staff and took photo record of the car body, the interior and inside the boot, leaving not an inch uncovered and made sure I had that recorded on the yellow record sheet. The Indian gentleman thought that excessive but I insisted. Remember to check the lights and wipers. Do not drive away immediately. I drove round once to make sure that the breaks and every thing worked, and that nothing rattled. On return, I had their staff look over the car with me, and I took all round photo records of the car again and made sure that the staff was in one of the photo. Now on settling the acccount, the staff at the counter would throw the yellow record sheet away. Do not let that happen. I insisted on taking the sheet with me. That is the proof that I returned the car fueled and without damage. Read the fine prints carefully and remember to return the car before 7:00pm. The depot closes at 8:00pm. Budget would allow you to drop the key in the letter box if you return the car after office hour. Some peolpe choose this option thinking that they can get away with a few extra hours unrecorded. Personally, I believe that is asking for trouble. If the car was damaged for any reason, without the yellow record sheet to protect yourself, you will be open to claims and very much defenceless. It is also important to take the CDW or SCDW, the staff will push that on you anyway. It is a rip off but every car hiring company rips you off that way. Customers can only factor this into their consideration while shopping for the cheapest offer. I took the CDW because I shall not be on the motorway too often and I am used to driving slowly. A crack on the windscreen would really cost you. But all in all, my experience with Budget so far is still pleasant, because I tread carefully. I shall be using them this July.

The point is that you shouldn't have to do any of that.
Why book if you have to do all that. What happens if your on time limits? I have to say mate. Not a great review

“We used Budget to get us to and from Sydney airport....”

We used Budget to get us to and from Sydney airport. The car was perfect, booking it was easy. Couldnt have asked for more.

My only gripe is that when booking car seats there is no place to put that we needed one rear facing. There is no option to click that you need forward or rear facing seats. Just that you need them. (If there is somewhere to state it we couldnt find it.) So we had a drama to get one adjusted both times. Then they say 'well why didnt you specify?' The second time my husband did send an email to state we needed one rear facing. They must not have recieved it.

Other than that we had no problems really. You get what you pay for in regards to customer services though.

“I've rented from Budget on many ocassions from their...”

I've rented from Budget on many ocassions from their Plymouth office and I am more than happy with the service they have provided me. On one occassion I was unfortuante enough to have a windscreen break on me while driving - however rather than charge me the full damage excess (£750 in this case) the manage was happy to let common sense prevail and only charged trade price for the replacment of a windscreen (£60 in this case). Yes I accept that some of the vehicles are a bit older than something you'd get from somewhere more expensive like Hertz or Avis but then again >>>> Budget - the clue is in the name!

I would certainly recommend Budget, particularly the Plymouth branch to anybody looking for cheap vehicle rental and as a matter of fact I have a van pre booked for next weekend, a car for a few weeks time (last time I had a Ford Focus, not a cheapo Kia/Hyundai like somebody else mentioned on their review!) and a 9 seater MPV for a trip with some friends in June!

Has anyone else fallen foul by the practise of the staff at the Budget Rental counter. I had previously purchased my car hire and the car was pre booked with all costs I required included. When reviewing the agreement I looked for the extra insurances I had requested and they were marked as not accepted what I hadn't noticed was the "non pkg" charges items which totaled 71.33 dollars which is on the left hand side of the agreement. Perhaps this was due to the employee telling me he hadn't added anything "no extra insurance" was his phrase. I wished I had recorded this conversation on my phone. Hindsight and exact science. I have subsequently been told this was for "The Emergency Roadside (RSN) service". I have no idea what this is and was not given any extra information as to what it was. Other than this the car was wonderful as so was the holiday although this does leave a sour taste in ones mouth. Has anyone else suffered as a result?

I have fallen foul of these creeps unfortunately. They charged me £200 to my credit card saying I had lost a luggage rack when there wasn't one to begin with! No warning only saw when checking credit card statement. Barclaycard would not help me trying to get cash back but I will never use them again for sure!

I will never use Budget again after an incident I had in Italy, which cost me to almost miss my flight. The staff there are hopeless and don't know anything, and as a result I was severely over charged for Petrol costs, causing them to max out my credit card! Never, ever again!

I had a similar experience in the US - my car was upgraded (without explanation that the model offered was more expensive than the class I had prepaid) and I was overcharged because my payment of £400 GB was applied as a credit for for $400 US (the exchange rate meant they'd overcharged me around $200, plus the upgrade charges of another $400). I tried emailing Budget and seemed to be getting no where (I responded to every email they sent so they knew I wasn't giving up). At one point they offered me $12 compensation! I also contacted both my credit card providers (the pre-booking was on American Express and what I thought was a small surcharge and deposit when I picked up the car was on a Visa card). Visa were not especially helpful but Amex immediately stopped payment to Budget giving them 28 days to explain themselves. As my rental experience was in the US I also contacted the Better Business Bureau. I believe it was this that made Budget look again at their charges and acknowledge their error - they refunded the difference between my original booking and the total I had paid. If you rented in the US, I highly recommend bbb. I also recommend taking it up with your credit card provider (if you paid by credit card) - especially if you use Amex. If neither of those apply, don't just take no for an answer. I sent them 8 emails before I got a satisfactory response.
