I booked my car and was happy with the price. Then I went to pick it up in Orlando. I am an AA member and get a second driver included free. The Hertz man disagreed. 20 mins later he agreed. I booked a minivan, he wanted to upgrade me to a Suv only $25 a day extra. He wanted to sell me a platepass (you drive straight through tolls) I said no thank you, when I checked my bank statement I was charged for it. My son was with me, he booked a Ford Mustang. I rented from the Hertz Car Rental at Rochester MN Airport. This is the city where the Mayo Clinic is. I was attending my very ill son. They made the mistake of overcharging me by $213.40. Hertz Malaga Airport. Had a great deal for a Hertz car from Booking.com or so I thought. I went through the rules with a tooth comb but not only does the memember of staff shout at you as if you are deaf, they don't listen to what you say. I rented a car in Shannon, Ireland. I was talked into buying extra coverage. OK, that was my fault that I agreed to. The cars cigarette lighter fuse must have been bad becasue I couldn't use my GPS (we checked the GPS with our B and B owner and the GPS was fine). The transmission felt like it was going out. I will never ever, as long as I shall live, rent with Hertz again. The car (chevrolet) that they gave us was completely mashed up at the front, the clutch felt like it was going to go any minute and was not clean. They talked us into paying 105euros for extra cover so you don't pay any excess if there is any damage as it emerged that even a slight scratch they could charge you 900 euro excess. I decided to stick with one of the big rental firms as I have been ripped off in the past. When I found an amazing deal with Hertz I snapped it up - £77 for a week. The car was ok, the service was ok but if you get a SMALL stone chip - beware! Although fully comprehensive insurance covers the repair, Hertz charged me £91!!!!!. Going through their agreement, there is NOTHING that mentions windscreen damage, but plenty on their various levels of insurances for damage waiver, etc. Windscreen damage SHOULD Be mentioned as it is covered in the fully comprehensive insurance anyway! Made to wait in the rain for 30 minutes in Verona while the little man was taking an extended lunch. Car delivered dirty inside and out with no ability to assess level of scratches, dings, pits on this piece of junk car with 69,000 kilometers. Radio never worked. 50 that is FIFTY plus customers waiting in line at DFW. My wait in that line was longer than my flight! Totally inadequate staffing at the counter. Also I was 37 minutes over the return time on my hotwire booking and they charged me a full days rental plus taxes at DOUBLE the daily rate I paid for my 3 day rental. We rented a car with hertz through car rental republic in st lucia.When we landed at the airport Hertz passed us on to a local rental company called sacred heart car rentals the car we received was an old style nissan ameria and was not fit to be a rental car. they have offered us $100 voucher against our next rental and have refused any other compensation. What a disaster! We hired from Munich airport. We chose Hertz because we wanted to be able to specify a certain type of car and they had a Fiesta. I do not recommend anyone use this car service. The person who assisted me whose name is Oliver got me a ford focus at half a tank of gas which was not a problem. However, when I brought it back at half a tank they told me that Oliver marked it was 3/4 full when I left with the vehicle and they were requiring me to pay an additional 22 dollars for the missing gas. I would never rent a car with Hertz on the Canary Islands (the local partner is Faycan) again. My rental was pre-paid with Hertz. 1) The first thing that happened is that Faycan charged my credit card at the beginning of the rental with a deposit of around 800 EUR (instead of just reserving the amount like this is usually done with credit cards). We recently travelled across Italy as part of our honeymoon so rented a car from Hertz subsidiary, Firefly. My only advice to anyone wanting to rent a car is do not use Hertz or Firefly Rome as they are the same company and absolutely outrageous. When Hertz tells you to check the car for damage, you need to actually take it out into a well-lighted area and scour the car for every minor ding and scratch and note it on the form and confirm with an employee before you leave. We dropped our car off at an unstaffed location on a Sunday morning and Hertz charged us 221 Euro for a scratch on the rear bumper. I hired from Hertz Cork Airport for the first time because friends who visit Ireland regularly recommended Hertz. Arranged car hire on line from Hertz through their arrangement with Ryanair. They added additional charges for things that I didn't ask for but didn't explain this to me at the pick up desk at Birmingham airport. They will not return the charge now as I didn't notice it until I returned the car. I think maybe the desk staff get commission for added stuff so be very careful. I just booked a Hertz car from Stansted Airport via Ryanair's web site. On collection of the car I discovered that ALL Ryanair bookings include the condition that you MUST buy the full tank of petrol in the car and return it empty!!! This implies that every day Hertz and Ryanair are effectively confiscating/stealing petrol from their clients. Rented a mini van from Ft. Myers Airport. Was a disaster. I had to be at a meeting in Sarasota within the next 4 hours. After hitting the highway I discovered the vehicle was wobbling all over the road. Also the brakes squealed louder than the radio. It ia already outrageous when you pay $700 to rent a car in Rome for 4 days and then receive an additional $113 bill for for having supplied the local authorities with your personal information about some ticket that we don't even know what it is about. Never renting a car from Hertz again, and will make sure everyone around me doesn't either. Rented a car in Arizona. After declyning few "great offers" they had this "great deal on gas". Charged us $70 for a full tank for a chevy malibu which was supposed to be "much cheaper then elsewhere". When we brought the car back 1/2 tank full, they then tell us that the gas is prepaid and non-refundable. Im sure first of all we could of filled the full tank for $50ish, and second they dont disclose all the details. For me that's crooky! Not my way of doing business. Will not recommend to anyone.
