    Hertz is a total ripp off. After they refused to have a look at return of the car we got a 700 pounds credit card bill for a tiny scratch that they claim is from us. No proof of that, but ok I am using my insurance for that. But to make a claim with the insurance you have to of course provide all kinds of documentation that is just impossible to get out of hertz. noone replies to you with a personalised email or telephone number and noone sends you any required information. Neither the norwegian nor the british customer service gave a damn about me as a customer. half a year on i am still sending emails to get all the documentation i need. Never again!

    I had pre-paid for my booking online and chose to pay a bit more for a better car. When I arrived at Picardy Place in Edinburgh to collect the car I was told that they didn't have the better car available and I would have to take a basic model. They told me that they couldn't refund me the extra I had paid as I had paid in advance!!! It later transpired the car's headlights didn't work.     Well done Hertz, a no fuss rental.
    Booked (pay on return) online day before trip to arrive at airport to find car as booked ready & waiting. Staff helpful, friendly & spoke good english.
    Don't take super insurance, get your self an annual excess insurance policy & save yourself money & hassle as everything will be covered.
    Decided to return the vehicle early as din't need on last days of holiday, again not a problem rental price recalculated on returned. So for me pre-pay would have ended up ...

    After being given a quote of $160 to hire a car for 4 days (through priceline.com). The next day I queued over an hour and a half at the Hertz desk (while my wife and children had to sit in the middle of the floor) only to be informed that the actual cost would include an additional $120 for the hire of 2 child seats, despite the fact these had been requested in the information provided for the quote.     I am surprise at the comments of people who have had a bad expirence. I rent from Hertz 4 or 5 times a year. I would say, to rent through the Ryan-Air web site it may be cheaper, you do not need to fly with Ryan Air. Tip dont take the extra insurance, do it through independent such as confused.com it is much cheaper ie £2.00 a day that will remove your exess, well worth it.

    We travelled as a family of eight, five adults and three children. We booked directly on the Hertz website a Ford Explorer, on arrival we were given the choice of the Explorer or a Checrolet Tahoe, we chose the Chevy. Car was immaculate and because we had the full waiver cover it was quick in and out without delays of checking for little dinks around the car. please note there is not enough luggage space in either of these vehicles for 8 travellers and this is no fault of Hertz, common sense wil ...

    I would not recomend renting from Hertz. We had ordered online and prepaid. On our arrivel to Rome we were talkd, sorry we have no cars, and there is nothing I can do. Just like that. It was late afternoon and it was extremely stressful to find another transport at that time.
    Very dissapointed.
    on the bright side, at least we were able to get the money back after sending complains to Hertz customer services.

    Hertz Car Rental charged me for super insurance even though I never asked for it; charged me an extra day claiming I returned the car 5 hours after I did. Hertz refused to deal with problems on return and ignored correspondence subsequently.

    We have rented with the Hertz Cambridge branch on 5 occasions during the summer of 2009, as they offered the best price for weekend rentals & are in the most convenient location for pick-up. The vehicles have all been rather new and in good condition (the oldest of them a 2008 ford fiesta with 30,000 miles on the clock, and the rest all 2009 models with mileage below 12,000).     I have just had the most appalling experience of Hertz at Edinburgh airport. On learning that my flight was delayed by several hours, I was assured I could still collect the car at 2.30am only to be phoned and told very rudely at midnight that I had to get a taxi and that my flight had been cancelled (this was not true).     When I dropped off my car at the Hertz facility (somewhat early in order to avoid an additional day charge) I later realized I had mistakenly left a few items in the car as detailed in my report below. After returning to the Hertz location only AN HOUR LATER to retrieve my items I was informed by the staff that they were "unable to be located."

    I've used Hertz several times in different countires and they supply one of the most inconsistent services of any rental company. Cars delivered to my home have never arrived when they are supposed to, either very late or way to early - to the extent of a day early in one case. Request gps and it may or may not be there - depends on which brand supplies the car, although Hertz can't be bothered to tell you which branch will supply it.     I recently hired a car from Hertz Edinburgh Airport in June 2009 On returning the vehicle at 7.15am the Hertz kiosk was open but unmanned so I had no option but to leave the keys in the key drop. As far as I was concerned no damage had occurred to the car.

    we hired with hertz car rental through jet2 for collect and return at faro airport portugal 7thmay to 11th may 2009. booked an estate type car because we wanted the room which on their listing was an astra or similar but was classed as a wagon estate.     Hertz Car Rental Customer Service is declining in proportion to its profits in the current economy. Perhaps this is to be expected, but it is unfortunate. I rent approximately 20 cars per year for business purposes, and I have regularly relied on Hertz. However, due to a number of recent bad experiences, I am starting to look further afield for the rentals.     I booked a car in advance declining the additional insurance from Hertz. When arrived at the airport late at night and after 15 minutes wait in the queu we were told asked to sign an agreement and given the key.     Excellent Hired a Hummer for 2 day excusrion to Grand Canyon from www.allgrandcanyontours.com ' , the car came from Hertz.

    The guy was really nice and friendly, explained the do's and don't for us and when we asked when to bring it back, he just said to make sure we had it back in 2 days time.

    Excellent Service, would definately reuse.

    I probably won't use Hertz again and I wouldn't recommend them. When I arrived in Perugia airport I found that only one of the 2 child seats I requested had been installed. The staff looked at me as if I had made a mistake until I pointed out that I have twins so I was pretty sure I had requested 2. I had to drive the vehicle to another part of the airport and install another seat myself.
