“Long wait, wrong car”

When travelling on a long vacation, timing is everything. The disorganization at Hertz in Dublin was amazing. We had just rented a car in the UK through Eurocar with a short wait and acceptable experience. But when we landed in Dublin we had to wait over 2 hours at the Hertz center for our reserved and paid for car. We were asked if we wanted to upgrade, but insisted we wanted the small car. “Never rent a car from Hertz ”

Never rent a car from Hertz, most terrible experience ever. I reserved and paid (yes completely paid) for the car 3 days ahead through Hotwire. My reservation started on Friday May 15th at noon and since I already paid for the car I thought it would be fine to show up a bit later. I've done this multiple times before with other companies. “Rubbish service”

Hired a car from York, Leeman Road UK. Was told when I hired it they were just right outside the train station. Total lie. It was a good 10/15 min walk with suitcase. Then they told me I should of called and they would of picked me up... Yeh they tell you that when you get there.. Had the car 5 days and it makes loud noise when you drive it. “£311 for a "small scratch to the front bumper"!?!”

I paid £100 to rent a Ford Escort for three days in Norway. Once they had added the other charges this came to £178. I returned the vehicle with a full tank and no damage. A week later I received a blurry picture which was allegedly a "small scratch in the front bumper". The damage, if it existed at all, could only have been from a small stone on the road flicking up as I certainly didn't hit anything. Joined Hertz Gold. Returned car at aiport, and they TRIPLED the charges we signed for. We were in a hurry to catch flight, and they wouldn't deal with the problem; instead told us to contact Customer Service, and we'd get a refund. Yeah, right. “Filled Ford Fiesta up before return but they took £130 ”

I filled the car up as per the usual car hire rules and now on my return I find that they have snatched £130.44 from me! Theft springs to mind as the lady on reception at Hertz Bristol Airport examined my receipt that was to prove I filled it up and accepted this. Was this not recorded anywhere? Travelers beware. Hertz Car Rental runs one of the most lucrative deceptions I've come across in awhile. If I could leave negative stars I would! I have spent the past eight months trying to get Hertz to refund money it stole from me by adding insurance I declined several times at Shannon Airport. This had to be the worst experience of my life. After waiting for 3.5 HOURS at midnight with small children we finally got a van that we pre paid for that van was a joke. Smallest "van" there was no room for our luggage. We had to carry it on our laps for a 2 hour drive. “Bad service, hidden charges, high excess, unhelpful staff”

Breakdown of charges not clear, one way charges not included in the price quoted, so it appeared cheaper than other car rentals in price comparison. The original rental agreement only had 'estimated charges', including refuelling of £138.59 for a corsa, or £3.08 per litre... £900 excess applicable, strongly used as a pressure point for buying additional insurance. Rented car with hertz in germanys airport for a week while on holiday. Only drove 200 miles during that week and stored car in the garage overnight. The car was returned to airport parking at 6am as our flight was 7 oclock in themorning, which is outside hertz working hours. So none of staff members could view returned car and sign papers saying 'no damage made'. Made reservation thru AAA 3weeks prior for an Equinox. Upon arrival could tell something was wrong. Manager Mark told me car I had reserved was very popular this time of year and he could not find one. But for a lot more money he could fix me up with an up grade. “Bad car worse service and response”

Rented a premium car for 3 days in RDU. Car had 46,000 miles on it. Rear quarter panel was dented and needed paint. Hood popped open 9 times in 3 days. Car stalled at STOP signs and RED lights. Rear end sounded as if it would explode as the noise at 60mph was horrible. Upon return I was charged twice what my confirmation email said. I was told the manager would call me. He did not. I hired a car at Dublin and paid the Super Cover to bring my excess down to zero. This CDW cost almost 20 euro per day. On returning the car I was told the super insurance did not cover damage to the wheels. The Hertz person said she could see small scratches on the wheels although I could not see them. “The good old debit card trick”

I find it unacceptable that they allow you to book and pre-pay for a car with a debit card without asking you to at least confirm that you have a credit card. Yes it's all in the Ts&Cs but honestly who reads that? I accept little clauses in the Ts&Cs but this one makes the difference between getting the car and NOT getting the car. Even if you're a member of their Gold Rewards the service is terrible. You have to wait for a long time for your car - and you don't get what you requested. The staff doesn't care one bit. The car we received had something hanging down from under the engine - kept making a scraping noise when driving. Someone pointed it out to us.
