“The good old debit card trick”

I find it unacceptable that they allow you to book and pre-pay for a car with a debit card without asking you to at least confirm that you have a credit card. Yes it's all in the Ts&Cs but honestly who reads that? I accept little clauses in the Ts&Cs but this one makes the difference between getting the car and NOT getting the car. “Don't rent from here.”

Possible the worst customer service my husband and I have ever encountered. The women started screaming at my husband, and threatened him to keep walking, while he was walking out of the store. “worst car rental company”

Even if you're a member of their Gold Rewards the service is terrible. You have to wait for a long time for your car - and you don't get what you requested. The staff doesn't care one bit. The car we received had something hanging down from under the engine - kept making a scraping noise when driving. Someone pointed it out to us. Wanted to return car early - they wanted to charge nearly double the rate. No help - no service. I WILL NEVER USE HERTZ AGAIN and suggest no one else use… Read Full Review

“appalling company”

Hertz car rental - unprofessional, rude and nonchalant about their terrible service. Staff incredibly rude. Hidden charges. Was asked if I wanted to pay an extra fee to waive the excess fee of 900 pounds. I asked how much this was and was told 20 pounds. Turns out this is per day. I had already waited nearly an hour to be served, the computer system then crashed and forced me to wait even longer. “No Cars & No Service”

We booked a car with Hertz 4 months in advance of the date we needed it. When we arrived at the Orlando airport to pick it up we had to wait 45 minutes in line. When we got to the front counter the agent took our information & then told us they had no vehicles left. She said she would keep clicking to see to if she could find something & we would have to wait. I asked how long the wait would be & she said she didn't know. “Unscrupulous”

I rented the car for my daughter. I accepted/declined all items and had a total. When my 22 y.o. daughter got there they clearly saw a mark. They went through the entire contract again just as if she was a walk-up. I have rented many, many times (never w/ Hertz) and have never gone through the whole contract before and neither had she when she rented for her university. She declined the added insurance. “car damage claim”

Car hired and checked back in in perfect order so paperwork recycled.6 weeks later I received a standard letter saying I had damaged the car which I disputed.5 weeks after same again and again disputed but as I couldn't show the paperwork they insisted I owed them money." 2 months after original letter, a letter with attatched invoice showed bill for a tyre repair which had never before been mentioned and occurred the day after I returned the car. “Arrived to a closed location with a prepaid...”

We had our car rental booked for months and called the 800 number numerous times because we never rented and wanted information. We arrived in Ellington, CT at 945am for a 10:00am pickup and there was no building!!! Apparently they shared a building with a car sales lot and closed 5 days before hand. “Horrible experience”

I would NEVER recommend this company for car hire to anyone! When I delivered the car I found out they had double charged me with making me pay for a "Super Cover Insurance" that I never ordered and when asked if I wanted it I said NO and there is NO way one could misunderstood that. “Hertz accepting reservations when they have no cars”

Reserved a car in Palm Springs USA from Hertz. Arrived there prior to our 10:00 am reservation to find out they have no cars! The fellow working there and helping us told us that this has been an ongoing problem for the past 5 days. “Do not rent from this company! ”

We recently rented a car from Sydney Airport, Australia. They ended up charging us A$350 for a bulge in the wheel arch that we did not cause - there's no scratch or dent, it's literally a bit of the fender popped out from losing a clip. They then added on a long list of additional charges totalling an extra $130, including $55 for the claim processing and another absurd one called a "location fee": this is 25% of the admin and credit card surcharge combined, supposedly a charge from Sydney… Read Full Review

“Extra Charges Show Later ”

I was traveling in California and went through tolls. I paid these tolls, but I received a ticket in the mail and hertz charged me $30 on my card. I called the toll roads and they fixed the problem, but hertz would NOT take the $30 charge off even with no violation. The customer service was difficult and rude. “Double charge for rental in Italy”

I recently rented a car in Italy from Auto Europe, which we paid in full before our trip, we paid $660 approximately we were directed to Hertz for the rental. We rented in Rome and were to turn it in in Venice. A few days into our trip we got a flat tie, the car did not have a spare so we had to call Hertz and they told us they were going to send a tow truck, the truck came and they put us in the car and loaded us in to the flat bed inside the car. “Poor customer service”

After hiring a car in Milan in mid-October for 4 days, I have finally received an unsatisfactory response to my complaint over 3 months later (in January 2015). Excess insurance was taken out, but according to Hertz a gear box issue was my liability (after just 20 minutes of driving, mainly on a highway). We live in UK but rented direct with Hertz, Jo'burg for 4 weeks in Dec 2014 because they were quite a bit cheaper than quotes through websites. Got a virtually new car with new tyres, which, having a good tread, probably saved us getting stuck in mud several times. Unfortunately we scraped the bumper and I expected an exaggerated repair bill for a complete new bumper, but in fact just got charged £90 plus £30 admin. I reserved a vehicle days before and was not informed on the credit check they will have to run. Upon my arrival I was in a hurry to make it to work thought I could hhave picked up the car only to be turned away because of a credit check that they never informed me about! “Appalling service and dreadful car”

I hired a car to tour northern Israel. I picked up the car in Haifa. The staff were extremely unhelpful. The girl at the desk was more interested in answering her mobile phone than dealing with us. I was not given any information about the controls on the car and had to ask how to select drive (the car was an automatic). The car was dreadful. It would not change from 2nd to 3rd gear easily or from 3rd to 4th. I spent most of the time driving round in 3rd gear which was unbelievably irritating… Read Full Review

“Nasty and discusting”

Rented vehicle from the In house sight at Crest Collision Center in Nashville Tn, they asked me to sign a release to not smoke in the car or have pets since I don't do either that was not a problem. The car I received reeked of smoke so bad that I requested another vehicle,only to realize I should have kept the original rental. I will never rent from Hertz again. I had booked a rental in February 2014 for a rental car for December 26, 2014 through to January 1, 2015. I have the similar experience with you at the LA airport hertz, we were forced to upgrade because the car they provide at that level was a very small one which was not we reserved. And also a lot of customers waiting there, but they only have very few working staff. We waited for 40 minutes there!
