Good Points: Did have a car.
Bad Points: VERY slow and unprofessional.
General comments: If you value your time, I strongly suggest you do not use Dollar car rental, at least in San Diego. When we showed up, they were serving people who had been waiting in line for 2 hours. Everyone already had a reservation, and was just trying to pick up a car. It took us 1 hour to get to the counter. When we returned our car, we talked to people in the line, and they had been waiting over an hour. You can walk to other car rental places, and their wait time was about 10 minutes. The others were out of cars. Part of the delay was that people kept coming back because the trouble lights were on in the vehicles they rented, or there was a lot of garbage still all over the car. Even though there was a huge line, people kept leaving the desk, and going upstairs. They would be gone for 20 minutes, come back down, serve a couple people, and then disappear again for 20 minutes. We could see them leave, and wonder around in the parking lot talking on the phone.
When I did get my van, there was a damaged taillight. I pointed it out, and they told me as long as I marked it on the sheet it would be fine. When I came back, first I found out they didn't put down the pre-paid tank of gas I asked for, so they charged me for an empty tank. Then they told me they were going to charge me for the taillight. If I didn't have the original receipt, they would have charged me. They still passed it on to the insurance company that came after me. I had to again prove to them I had marked it before I took the vehicle.
These people were very unprofessional in my experience, not recommended.

Hired in California, Booked through Dollar UK, if you book with card, check your bank statement, both myself and another member of family were charged twice.

Sanford Florida 2006. We paid up front for insurance (gold insurance) they charged me a fortune for a tank of petrol, they charged me $88 dollars to fill the car up thats $4.09 a gallon, the most expensive petrol at any station was $2.02, yes i complained and they said they have to go to special depot to get the petrol, what a bunch of rubbish, they seem to try to make money anyway they can.

Long wait for shuttle bus to take you for airport to Car rental area. Then we waited 2 hours in a long slow moving queue in the midday heat. Unhelpful staff in my view, didn't appear to me to be in the slightest interested in apologising for delay. They blamed it on "late flights" then said it was always like this unless we booked Dollar Express. Have photos to show the long queue if you want to see them!

Didn't like Dollar Car Rental and will never rent from them again. Car made a funny noise and help received was poor.
Was charged $191 (on my credit card when I returned home) for taking the car back an hour late, and without gas.
Left my camera in the car and although they said they had it I never saw it again.

The Dollar Rent a Car website promised a "Dodge Caliber or similar" for $109.88. I reserved the car through Expedia. When I arrived at Dollar's Albuquerque airport desk, the agent said all the $109.88 base models were all rented (however many that might have been). I would never use Dollar car hire again.
When we did get the car it was filthy.
Advice: Pay the little extra needed to get good customer service, and a car that doesn't have a sticky steering wheel and dirty seats.

I rented from Dollar a few months back and I had the bad luck that an uninsured motorist hit me and damaged the rear bumper on the rental car. It was not my fault but I had declined accident coverage, since my personal car rental covers me. Also, by paying with a credit card you can get covered for the deductible amount you may have to pay. I realize I declined coverage but the problem is that Dollar tries to make money out of your accident and rips you off with charges! Whilst my own State Farm ...

On 13th July 2007 I rented a car from Dollar, Salt Lake City Int'l Airport. When I booked online, I was in fact attracted to 'Dodge Caliber' (or similar). I was given a 1.8 ltr front wheel drive 'Nissan Sentra' which eventually told on my nerves for next two days. We've used Dollar for years and apart from a couple of problems that were easily sorted out, they have been very reliable. We had to pay our deposit in cash one year because the credit card we had was not in the name of the main driver. When we took our car back, it was a public holiday weekend for them and no-one could locate our cash. We received a cheque when we arrived home, after a quick call to Dollar UK just to make sure they didn't forget.

I was given no choice of car at all. Dollar staff tried to persuade us to upgrade several, whilst I had previously paid for an intermediate car that was the size required. I paid for the gold insurance package through our travel agent ahead of our holiday, which did not include payment for a full tank of fuel. I found that the Dollar Rental car at MHT was great value. The staff were kind and they offered me a cheap upgrade. I received a new Jeep Liberty. they are nice people. The cars are clean and also new.

We used Dollar car rental for our stay in Orlando, Florida, through Virgin Holidays. I requested and paid for the "Platinum" package. I specifically checked that I had paid for the package where we could return the car with an empty fuel tank with no extra charge (to save finding a gas station on the last morning of the holiday).

I hired a jeep from the MHT depot of Dollar car rental. The collection point for the vehicles from the terminal is quite a walk, and for an airport with few trolleys, this can be challenging, especially if you have a lot of luggage and kids!
This branch is also a franchise of some sort. So Dollar reservations cannot do all the deals they could normally do, as they're restricted by the local company policy ... just something to bear in mind when booking.

Always use Dollar on our frequent visits to the USA. They seem to be on airport more than Alamo and the queues always seem to be shorter. We must have hired 30+ cars from Dollar and we have never had a problem with any of them. They also tend to be a little cheaper than their main rival Alamo.

When I arrived at Boston, there was a bus ride ... we waited 5 mins for the bus and it took another 5-7 mins to get to Dollar.
This is OK, but its much better if the rental is on the airport. The lot is dirty and could do with a good clean inside and out, the place was busy and the staff seemed harrassed. Getting the kids seats seemed a hassle to the staff and then they did not fit to well. On the plus side they refunded my gas charge when I told them of this on my return.
