Where to start?! Best advice is don't bother. Rented car from LAX last year. Not quite a deathtrap but not far off. Exchanged in Vegas after break failure. All very polite free upgrade and 1 week rental rebate (£90).Did the same again this year. The car was better but still had issues and again exchanged with no problems.Returned the car 5 hours late due to huge pile up on I10.Charged 1 days extra rental. No problems with this as we were late but the charge of $171 is ridiculous. Have complained but this is policy! Lesson learned. So if you don't want to be ripped off avoid Dollar. There are plenty of others!

Booked this car through Virgin Holidays who I am glad to hear that they are changing to Alamo next year. Picked the car up at Lake Buena Vista, the car was a mess, stained seats and someone had been sick on the front passenger seat which just awful in 90 deg heat, after a heated arguement with miss attitude on the desk I took a brand new SUV which was great, behind me though were 3 customers who were not happy. Vehicle not there, vehicle broke down and the company asking the family to take it ba ...

We opted for a mid sized SW and got a very basic Dodge Journey. Did the job but nothing great. Main moan: Guy at the Dollar Car Rental desk sold us a Sun Pass for Turnpikes ($60) saying some gates unmanned and if we passed through without the pass we risked a violantion ticket. This was untrue. All gates were automatic and the most we would have paid was 25c a trip. Also he said there were now tolls into Key West. Not true. Don't pay for a Sun Pass unless you know you are using the Turnpike a lo ...

When we booked our vacation we specified a jeep cherokee and dollar car rental confirmed it twice.Land at mco and the guy at the desk said none were available. We could have a cheaper car or upgrade to a suburban for more money. We got cross and refused to give in.AND surprise surprise a jeep was available. The chap at the counter was unpleasant.Ihave used budget in the past and would thoroughly recommend them over the cowboys at dollar. Also budget's toll pass system is better than dollar's as you ...

After 3 months of returning home from our vacation, we have just had a 'Toll Violation charge' of $1, plus $25 'Dollar Car Rental' fee - the charge is during a period when we were not in the area of the named toll gate.
Dollar are refusing to assist us by providing any documentation and have already charged my credit card...I AM FURIOUS. I have no-where to go with this situation and wonder how many other foreigners are being had up for violations that aren't theirs.......BE WARNED.

Second time using Dollar at MCO (Orlando International) and I have to say never again.

Asked for a low milage car and was offered a Chyrsler 300 yest that will be fine. The sting: its only $6 per day (despite being on Dollars website at $3 per day, but tourists would not know this.

The cars we were given ranged from wrecks to ancient, most had in excess of 50k miles on them and this "was due to the current economic climate and having to keep cars longer". Cars have never been cheaper and if t ...

We arrived at Dollar Car Rental Car pick up and had to wait almost 3 hours we where then charged 50 dollars for a car seat for our 18mth old child. Because we had the car seat we got a free upgrade on a car it was lovelly and big with plenty of room in the back for 3 children. Apart from the wait i had no complaints.

A member of the garage staff was sweet. When she saw us struggling to get all out bags (and 2 children) into the 'midsize' we had booked, she simply told us to put the car back and swap it for an SUV.

I rented with Dollar from Houston airport (IAH), for 3 weeks in March 2009.
What I hadn't anticipated is that Dollar wanted to charge extra for"Roadside Assistance"!! I have never, ever, hired a car and been charged extra for this. They wanted $6 per day. On a 3 week hire, this would have amounte ...

I would not recommend this company, if you arrive late they will not accommodate you and then you have to pay them £25, what a cheek!

We were very close to being given an inadequate car by a guy in the Tampa Airport Dollar car rental just before Christmas. We, stupid Swedes(?) had booked a Cherokee three months in advance. When we came to collect the car we were given a Fort Patriot instead, with the guy saying that the car was equivalent to the Cherokee. We had no idea when we got the key, but trying to stuff our suitcases into that little thing we realised we had got a bad deal. 33% less cargo capacity! Luckily the gay who w ...

The car was OK. We were told the total price we would pay was £375. When I checked the bill we had been charged £500. They charged £75 to hire a satnav. I could have bought one for that!!!!!

If you value your time, I strongly suggest you do not use Dollar car rental, at least in San Diego. When we showed up, they were serving people who had been waiting in line for 2 hours. Everyone already had a reservation, and was just trying to pick up a car. It took us 1 hour to get to the counter. When we returned our car, we talked to people in the line, and they had been waiting over an hour. You can walk to other car rental places, and their wait time was about 10 minutes. The others wer ...

Sanford Florida 2006. We paid up front for insurance (gold insurance) they charged me a fortune for a tank of petrol, they charged me $88 dollars to fill the car up thats $4.09 a gallon, the most expensive petrol at any station was $2.02, yes i complained and they said they have to go to special depot to get the petrol, what a bunch of rubbish, they seem to try to make money anyway they can.

Long wait for shuttle bus to take you for airport to Car rental area. Then we waited 2 hours in a long slow moving queue in the midday heat. Unhelpful staff in my view, didn't appear to me to be in the slightest interested in apologising for delay. They blamed it on "late flights" then said it was always like this unless we booked Dollar Express. Have photos to show the long queue if you want to see them!

Didn't like Dollar Car Rental and will never rent from them again. Car made a funny noise and help received was poor.
Was charged $191 (on my credit card when I returned home) for taking the car back an hour late, and without gas.
Left my camera in the car and although they said they had it I never saw it again.

The Dollar Rent a Car website promised a "Dodge Caliber or similar" for $109.88. I reserved the car through Expedia. When I arrived at Dollar's Albuquerque airport desk, the agent said all the $109.88 base models were all rented (however many that might have been). Only the "upgraded" model was available and that was $179.88. After surcharges, airport concession fee, and various taxes, the total would be over $435. I decided to take the Caliber and try to get an adjustment later. As I returned, ...

I would never use Dollar car hire again.

When we did get the car it was filthy.

Advice: Pay the little extra needed to get good customer service, and a car that doesn't have a sticky steering wheel and dirty seats.

I rented from Dollar a few months back and I had the bad luck that an uninsured motorist hit me and damaged the rear bumper on the rental car. It was not my fault but I had declined accident coverage, since my personal car rental covers me. Also, by paying with a credit card you can get covered for the deductible amount you may have to pay. I realize I declined coverage but the problem is that Dollar tries to make money out of your accident and rips you off with charges! Whilst my own State Farm ...
