We had terrible service from Lufthansa. We ended up paying an extra 750 for another flight after we were denied access to our booked flight due to incompetence on the part of Lufthansa staff in Barcelona. Rectifying this through the on-line customer service was like being stuck in a Kafka novel -- a bureaucratic nightmare with no resolution. Our advice is use any other airline! (read more)

My father ( Nagesh Naik) had to come to USA alone, he is 65 years old and had knee problem. So requested for the wheel chair assistance for him. He missed the connecting flight and was so much tensed. But the wheel chair assistant was so good, he was there with him about 5 hours- he spoke to Lufthansa counter, talked with people around to get him settled with his lost baggage and alternate transport system. I booked two flights and couldn“t use the first one due to the death of a close friend. I tried to check in for the second one and Lufthansa had cancelled it without even informing me. They said according to their terms and conditions I had to use all flights in the sequence as booked or they could cancel them all. Total exploitation and rip off of their (former customers). We just returned Lufthansa yesterday from Stockholm to San Francisco via Frankfurt Main on A380 aircraft. Both segments were pleasant. I have no complaints about the service from FRA-SFO. You would see a smile, there was no barking of orders like I am used to with United. There were several children on board in Business Class and the attendants could not have been more gracious. When they fly, they usually work fine. When things go wrong you are on your own. No hotels for cancelled flights, they leave to to sleep over 12hrs on the Airport floor. Not willing to refund fare even when they cancel the flights. 2 Bad experiences in a row. I will never use again. What a shower! (read more)

Flew Lufthansa trans-Atlantic at end of February. In economy; seats too firm, thinly padded, and rows very close together. In-flight entertainment did not work at all; neither did overhead lights so long flight being unable to watch or read. We had never flown this airline before, but after such an excellent experience with lufthansa and their staff it gave our family of four the confidence to do it again. I travelled for the first time from Seattle to Mumbai on 7 February 2013 and came back on 7 March 7, 2013 with my wife. I was allowed 2 bags per ticket. My onward journey itenary I got from lufthsan was Seattle - Houston - Frankfurt - Chennai The ticket was issued by luftansa airlines with clearly writing 2 bags allowed per person. Had a wonderful experience flying Brussels - Frankfurt - Hongkong - Frankfurt - Brussels despite the Christmas airport paralysis season and a 24 hours delay. We were contacted by LH airline customer service, who very graciously offered to make alternative travel arrangements and booked us for a flight the next day. Lufthansa has a terrible terrible miles and more program. I requested for miles and it never credited on my account. I re requested the miles and they told me wait for another 4-6 weeks. I flew from Singapore to Frankfurt on the 18th of December, and had then to catch a flight to Brussels (LH1006, leaving on the 19th of December). Once Frankfurt reached, I had the bad surprise to be informed that my transfer flight had been canceled. My wife and I had a flight booked from London to Frankfurt. At the check in counter we arrived with 2 standard airline approved hand luggage and my wife had a handbag as well. The check in clerk noticed my wifes handbag and promptly said only 1 piece of hand luggage was allowed. We asked to speak to a supervisor and explained how we had always bes en allowed to board flights with a handbag. We did NOT have too much luggage? Since my review Luthansa have confirmed that women are allowed ro carry on board a handbag as well.
I did not know this but the check in staff are not lufthansa but sub, ,contractors so perhaps badly trained worker?
When we " disappeared "as you say I waited by the check in counter my wife went to a shop 5 metres away recomended by the check in staff? I think this happenef because I complained? and maybe this supervisor was in a bad mood? So I post in a public forum so anyone can comment but please do me the courtesy of reading my review properly? Also type into Google complaints about Lufthansa? The complaints for Lufthansa are 70% more than other airlines since 2011 mostly about staff behaviour.

Washington D.C. to Frankfurt main on board the new 747-8 in C class. A wonderful experience. Plane immaculate and clean. Ground staff at Washington were professional and efficient. Flight slightly delayed, but announcements were made and passengers kept up to date. The cabin crew were professional, and caring. Toronto-Frankfurt-Minsk (YYZ-FRA-MSQ) The business class long haul was satisfactory, the entertainment was okay, the seating was sub-par, but the food was fantastic. The tilted bed seats subtracted from the comfort and being in pods gave some sort of privacy but it also just felt weird. For business class short haul, it was exactly the same as economy except with a cup tray blocking the middle seat! Service was excellent overall, as it has been whenever I've flown Lufthansa. This company erred by not giving me credit for miles I'd flown with their airline. After many months of back and forth emails with their customer "service" and despite providing all documentation they requested, I never received credit for my flown miles. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! Doesnt respect online check in priority. They just doesnt are even if you ask them about it. Their reaction was sort of "deal with it". Wats the point of online check. I dont understand these negative reviews at all. I have flown LH (both hubs FRA & MUC) to Boston and San Francisco regularly over the last two years and i never had issues. Some airlines might have the better equipment (J business class for sure), but LH provides a great network, punctuality, safety, free drinks and very good lounges. Skytrax and World Travel Awards rate LH constantly on top, which is consistent with my own experiences. Steve (read more)

I am afraid, the girls in the Lufthansa's customer service were right. You bought the ticket from a traveling agency and not from Lufthansa. This means that only the traveling agency can do any changes to the reservation. The reason behind it is very simple. Would you like any third parties to be allowed to change your reservation???? For example: You buy a ticket to see your lover in Paris. Your jealous wife calls the call centre and cancels your booking. Would you like that to happen?? Only a person who made a reservation (in your case, a travel agent) should be allowed to change it.

Lufthansa - what a rip off. If you cancel your flight in economy you get hardly any of your money back and then they resell your flight for more than you paid for it. I paid £265 for two flights to Frankfurt from London but had to cancel as the other passenger is very ill in hospital. I was refunded £86. When I called Customer Services the guy was really rude! As a Miles & More customer and frequent traveller I tried to book my flight award on their website: without success (the site is apparently not working, I get an error message every time). I am disappointed with the Lufthansa service while connecting flights in Frankfurt. I spent two hours in a queue (along with most of the travellers of that flight) waiting for our luggage that did not turn up and then claiming its lost. Apparently nobody noticed that our plane left Frankfurt with almost no checked baggage on board!!! It was not an experience I would expect from such a big airline. Recently flew MUC-SFO on Luftansa in economy class. Great experience. Check-in and boarding was handled efficiently. Flight on time, beers for free, friendly purser and baggage arrived. I have no complaints whatsoever and recommend this airline from now on.

We had taken all precautions, dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's. Flying from Canada to Frankfurt then further into Europe, we had finally landed at our destination without our dog! Not one single person knew who to call or what to do! Our dog was in another country and possibly without food or water sitting in some cargo area alone. Today is Sept 14, 2012. I wrote my first complaint in May 2012. Since then, I have written emails, sent faxes, phoned countless times regarding a 5 page letter with precise details on my ordeal of flying with Lufthansa and the RESULT is: complete SILENCE. Thanks for posting this - I am having the same experience. I sent a registered letter in July 2012, and never received a response. (It is now November 2012.) I have subsequently emailed the scanned the contents of the regsitered letter to LH several times and have only received an automated reply with a case number, but no reply or follow up. Very frustrating indeed.

I flew from Munich to Belgrade in Economy class in winter 2011/12. My flight was perfect and the in flight food was very good, but at my return flight my plane had 2 hours delay because of bad weather in Munich, so we got a paid sandwich and drink at the restaurant/bar at the airport. I would say that that is the best airline I have used. Once I due to the weather conditions there was delay in all of the flights and I could not catch my connection. Lufthansa provided all of us a nice hotel and a nother ticket for the first flight next day. (read more)

The flight attendant Lisa on flight LH 731 from Delhi to Frankfurt - 20th July 2012 is rude and revels in it. The food service was excruciatingly slow and stopped abruptly before my boys could get their food for 15 minutes. When I asked her why it was so, she started talking about other needy passengers. Lufthansa -bloodsucking yellow godzila will charge 20Euros credit card payment fee and 20Euros ticket issuing fee (even though its electronic) to a 6 moth old baby with family of 4 kids. The ticket prices and fees are out of touch with ordinary peoples everyday needs and Lufthansa is one of the champions of customer abusing service. If you have large family to travel, Lufthansa is not your airline. (read more)

I had been using Lufthansa frequently to reach Hyderabad in India. This airline stopped operating out of Hyderabad and booked me on an Air India flight from Hyderabad to Mumbai. What is it with Lufthansa's baggage service? Two recent flights, two lost bags. The most recent trip was BOS-FRA-Baku (Azerbaijan) on September 10, with Lufthansa telling us one of our bags is lost. I mean, truly lost, as in they can't find it. How does a modern, so-called "4 star" airline with barcoded bag tracking actually lose a bag in its system? I don't think this is the airline's fault but the fault of airport security. Someone probably decided to steal your bag. And I find it interesting that you flew to Azerbaijan - the location probably explains why your bag went missing. Not to speculate, but that's the way it is in 3rd world countries.

LAX-FRA was a nice trip, no glitch. FRA-LAX biz class cabin crew was a nightmare. I was the only Asian in that area. From the beginning, other biz passengers were greeted near the entrance and had their coats hung in the cupboard and shown to their seats. I was left alone and that was fine. First they changed a confirmed flight for my wife so we had to fly separaqtely. Then they cancelled our return flight, I had to cut my vacation one day short. Then they changed the return flight to a later flight which made us leave at 6-AM instead of 1-PM. We have to rent a hotel so we can make the flight. I'm pretty sure I got food poisoning from the in flight meal. I got sick later that evening and was sick for 5 days and had to have an IV. I had beef and I remembered after the fact that is was not that warm. Also I had a small child behind me who kicked my seat, screamed in my ear and pulled my hair for 10 hours and the flight staff did nothing to stop this. (read more)

If by new to flying you mean flying for 30 years then you are right. I am new to being ripped off however. And I know exactly why they are doing it. Every time people have to change their plans they exploit it by demanding a rebooking fee or cancelling the flights and reselling my seat to someone else. This abusive practice should be illegal and I will be writing to the regulator and the EU commission about revision of EU2004/261. Even if every airline does it this is no excuse and just shows a cartel-type operation and abuse of monopoly. Good to get some input from the airline staff though - thanks.
