Avis sent me incomplete location details, so it took us 45 minutes to find the branch in the vast underground car park of Westfield Shopping Centre. I tried to phone, but the branch never answered even after I waited for 15 minutes, constantly being told that I was "next in the queue." AVIs hire cars in Malta. When we booked our weeks hire car online the price was £68.72 for a week. We ended up paying £158.95!! We arrived to be told there was a late fee of £15 as we were picking up the car after 8pm, although we had had to enter our arrival time when booking online and nowhere did it flag this up (and our plane had not been delayed) even though there were other folk picking up cars at this time also. We call Assistance and they tell us to contact the location we rented our vehicle, only to find out they can't do anything. We call assistance again, and they send a tow truck. What happened to service in Europe? We rented a car from AVIS (Sicily) for two days and it was a fight from start till end. Staying in a hotel with an AVIS agreement, I started by asking the reception to arrange for the AVIS representative to come to the hotel, it took three days before the representative came in and only because we changed our schedule according to what suited them. “I am Happy with Avis”

My husband and I travel to Cyprus every year sometimes twice a year. Every time we get the offer from Monarch airlines to book with Avis and we are actually very happy with the service. The guy at Avis office is very useful and friendly. The only down site is that they do not keep the cars in the airport, they have a small mini bus that picks people up to drop them off to the closest Avis office which is of course very close by. Ok so 1st of all my friends girl friend was getting a car out at AVIS GATWICK she gave all her details inc her card details and was told she needed to leave a £95 deposit for fuel, she had this amount in cash but they wouldn’t except cash only card. My car was supposed to cost £75 but this company took £246 instead. When I went to collect my car, a Renault Twingo, I was offered various upgrades on insurance, excess amounts etc, all of which I refused as the whole idea was meant to be cheap and cheerful. Had an expensive and poor experience with Avis. We booked online and were charged with a $300 dollar extra expense when we went to get the car. They said it was for insurance and fee for dropping off in a different location from pick up. We checked with our Insurance company who assured us we were covered on our own auto insurance for this vehicle. “Avis charged refill charge when tank was full”

£68 They just took the money off my card without asking. I returned the car with a full tank on a Bank Holiday when the office was closed. So no discussion or inspection was possible. Well, I had a bad experience with AVIS's Faro. as some customers complained, they just give the key and tell you where the car is located, never go out to check the car with you. When we arrived, it was later evening; it was dark on the car park apart from some road-light. My wife and I had to look carefully to have spotted a few scratch and dent and reported to the staff on the desk. Reserved 5 days in advance a car in central London, went in to pick-up but was told there were no cars available and there was nothing anyone can do about it, the fools were sitting on an empty shop, not supplying what a customer had already paid. They tried to give me a rubbish car for a very high price, I told them to bog off. Then it will take several days for money to be given back, so end up out of pocket. Wow thats just happen to me this week !!!! . service was great when collecting the car and selling all the extras but dealing with the refund in the branch was dreadful. Customer service was much better and confirmed that they would do a manual refund and it would take 48 hrs. Shame the guy in the branch couldn't do that! I agree with your comments. feel this is a company policy

I've been having a winter getaway in Chile since the first week in February. During that time I reserved Avis cars for 4 separate roadtrips. On the first trip (Patagonia) everything was OK. On the second trip (Santiago and points north) I had a Group C car reserved but the manager stated that I would have to take a smaller Group B car at the same price because they were out of Group C cars. I don’t mind good aggressive selling. But when you are being sold ‘products’ hoping you will not notice or hiding stuff from you – is not on. I booked a car on the British Airways AVIS website. Appalling rushed service at the Alice Springs airport counter. When I booked on line I did not request comprehensive insurance as my work covers that. Yet, this was included automatically in my paperwork. And I blindly signed it trusting that it was the same as I had requested online through the Qantas site. I have rented cars for my one month holiday in the Algarve for the last three years, with Avis, having tried many many others,I found Avis to be easy to collect and return. The excellent nearly new vehicles were a treat, and added to my holiday enjoyment. I hired a car from avis Nottingham depot for 1 day. I rang the company instead of booking online and got a great deal, or so i thought. I pre-paid over the phone and was informed of the deposit and was happy until i went to pick the car up. I will NEVER EVER use avis again, after been told rudley by a member of their staff that if i was not there to take delivery of the car it was TOUGH and they would not leave it or wait! I did an internet booking for a hire car from AVIS Edinburgh in june[ the cost was £175.74]-the holiday was actually in october 2012. I had a rental in Ireland in November 2012 that ended up costing me 1400 Euro for three days. Very poor service. Rented a car as part of a BA fly drive package. Avis convinced me I needed some extra insurance (not convinced that I did). The car came in good condition and after my inspection all the additional small scratches were noted down by the sales person. Entire procedure took less than 10 min. Avis Nice 's moto seems to be "why facilitate if you can complicate" . Avis has an arbitrary policy of not recognizing an international driving licence without presenting also a national one and makes it a point of informing the client only upon arrival at the desk! . Arrived with my family in Paphos, Cyprus in the heat of an afternoon in July. Not only was the Air conditioned car that I had booked and part paid for not available they had no cars available. After 2 hours of haggling I was given a clapped out old soft top Jimini. I felt ripped off with Fuel, Airport Tax even though they are based out of the Airport. Car hired from Exeter Airport, UK. £60 for 4 days hire + we were upgraded from a medium to a large vehicle as they'd ran out of medium sized cars. Only 2,500 miles on the clock,, so car was almost new! Just watch out for the re-fuel charge if you don't fill up as otherwise it'll cost you more!
