“Ripped off”

Due to traffic delays, didn't have time to refuel the car before I dropped it off. So I was fully aware I`d be charged a fee. But 161 euros is just ripping me off. It wasn't even an empty tank when I returned the car, just about two thirds empty. Earlier on in my rental I`d` filled the car up from nearly empty for 46 euros. “Check wheel trim”

Hired a car from Avis in Jersey. Refused their excess policy as we had our own. The Avis man walked round the car with us and said 'all clear no scratches or damage'. We did point out a few superficial scratches around the boot area but he dismissed these and said only deep scratches counted. On returning the car the same man pointed to the wheel trim on one wheel and said there was damage there which he would have to charge us for. “Malta Avis - deceitful and dishonest”

Wish I could give Avis a 0 as 1 star, is 1 star too many. Made to wait in the car park for rep for 30 + minutes. Car was not checked properly on handover to us and we subsequently missed existing damage due to it being 3am and the car front being obstructed. Rep was reluctant to install the car seat for our toddler and told us to read the instructions on the side of the seat which was impossible in a dark car park. got home after 2 weeks in Tampa (car picked up at airport) to find charge for additional driver on receipt. Clearly states in BA website that no charge for additional driver for executive club members.Countless emails to Avis to try and get credit card refunded.No joy....Avis customer service as useful as a chocolate teapot. “Liars and cheats at Lyon airport”

Be warned they will add things to your contract you specifically and repeatedly say you don't want. They will get you to intial an arrowed item that you do agree to eg fuel. and on return of the car they will draw a circle around the whole group of items and claim that you initialled all of them. all of this will be done when they know you have to catch a flight so don't have time to argue and they have your credit card details so you have no choice but to pay. The worst experience with Avis in Bergamo airport. The staff is rude and try to deceive the customer. We had made a reservation online and when we tried to pick up the car the employee was very rude an told us that they don’t accept debit american express card ( where they specifically write to their site that debit cards are accepted). Avis supplied me with a car in Paris that had different number plates on the front compared to the back. I only noticed this problem the day I gave the car back in Brive and I pointed it out to their staff at this time. Needless to say the "other" car with my other number plate incurred a parking ticket in Paris, whilst I and my hire car where in Dordogne. “Avis tricked us and charged $800 extra!!!”

The customer service of the Avis car rental on West Broadway Vancouver, BC Canada is horrible! Don't go there! The owner and manager hung up on me when we were resolving a price difference. When we booked our car through priceline, it was $500 and when we returned the car, they charged us $1400!! It's very dishonest of the shop and very unprofessional. “Avis Tricks for extra Charges”

I hired an AVIS car inCape Town through a British Airways Booking at a very good cost. I have now discovered I have been charged extra on my credit card for tyre and windscreen insurance, even though I said no at the time of hire as I had and annual excess policy. I am highly disappointed with Avis. I rented out of Boston Logan airport and the sales associate "promised" my GPS would work as I paid 15 extra dollars for the service. I plugged the navigation device in and it did turned off and the screen went blank every time so needless to say, I was left circling around. Also, I would like to report that AVIS is "suppose" to be an agency that hires veterans and prides itself on such. I applied and they said my qualifications did not fit their needs even with veterans status, a top secret clearance, on the deans list from a community college as well as university qualifications. Also, had computer certificates and army awards and yet I still did not meet their qualifications and I speak a little Spanish. So, I am making a major note, which I usually do not do: AVIS sub par and would not recommend it!!!

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID! Booked a Ford Fiesta - or similar - and ended up with a ridiculous Smart instead. If that wasn't enough of an annoyance I was later billed 280 Euros for an alleged damage on the vehicle! Needless to say that the car was in pristine condition when it was returned, unfortunately outside their opening hours. I spent £200 hiring a car for 3 days from Avis in Aberdeen airport. After I flew back to London, I received a letter stating there was £300 of damage to the car after I returned it, which there categorically wasn't. I have tried countless times to claim that I had nothing to do with any suspected damage, but any complaint just falls on deaf ears and they ignore any points I make. Totally impossible to make telephone contact with them despite leaving 7 or 8 messages saying that I had a problem about the car that I had hired from Avis. Never again even though I am a Preffered Member. I wished to upgrade my car as I had extra people arriving unexpectedly. I ended up renting three cars in 7 days. First car was all my fault had keyless car didn't take the key with me. Had no ideal was keyless car when I got it was already started. I am taking my son 15 hours to school packed an ready to go. So after realize 5 hour into the trip. It took Avis 12 hours to get me another car. Then this wasn't the same car was half the size. We rented a car through Norwegian Airlines to pick up in Malta. Our paperwork clearly stated that we had paid a late fee for pick up so we were pretty upset when they charged us 15euro for a late fee. We paid it and thought we needed to go back to Norwegian. Second they also tried to charge us for the full rental of the car which we were sure we had paid. I rented a 4x4 from Avis in Denver Colorado and dropped it back at Las Vegas just over two weeks later. Upon picking it up I noticed a small crack in the windscreen and pointed this out to staff at Denver ; they confirmed it was ok and not to worry. Over the duration of the holiday this crack grew and ended up over 18 inches in length ( bearing in mind the temperature changes from freezing to hot desert ). “Just buy another car”

Truck was in the shop and I needed another car. So, I went to avis. I know now it would just be cheaper to buy another car. A $500 rental turned into a $1200 charge. I did the weekly rental and was asked to add the $27 insurance and figured it was the weekly charge, I was wrong it was the daily charge. I arranged from Britain to hire a car from Lyon Airport, France. Agreed terms with an agent on the telephone in Britain, was sent a confirming email, but on taking delivery of the car the price had increased by nearly 50%. Avis simply did not apply what had been agreed, extra items even including contributing towards the car registration! ~Avis in Lyon Airport have just cheated me out of 172 Euros. The operator on the desk lied to me about what I was signing for . I noticed a 301 Euro extra and they said this was just a deposit. I had declined Roadside assistance yet it was added to my bill. and taken off my credit card. I had agreed and initalled a fuel charge , however when I queried the 172 extra on returning the car they said I had initialled the whole section and then promptly drew a circle around the whole extra charge so now it looks like I initialled the whole lot. DO NOT LET THE PEOPLE WHO YOU RETURN YOUR CAR TO ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR CONTRACT IF THEY HAVE A PEN IN THEIR HAND. all of this was on top of the fact they didn't have the car we had organised and miraculously the only 4 wheel drive they had was 5 categories higher.

Beware when you sign the contract. Make sure you get a copy and read everything that you sign. Even though you dont ask for insurance, satellite radio, and any weird fine that they make it up. They will try to add without your consent. Don be fooled to pay anything. fight against them and make sure that they dont get any penny out of you.
