Avis is a really bad company. I had no option to use them as my car incurance company put my hire vehicle through avis.
The car was fine however after returning the car and awaiting my cash deposit I came across issues.
Intially I was informed that they had no record of my cash payment. Lucily for myself I had ept the reciept. I had to contact them on several occasions and after informing the agent I was currently unemployed and was awaiting the cash I was informed he would bring the cash to my home the following day. However once again this did not happen. i contacted them for the fourth time to be informed that I would not recieve cash as this was not the company policy. I informed them my recent conversation with the agebt and they denied all nowledge of thic conversation. They informed me they were investigating the case of my missing deposit and would contact me. Again no body contacted me. I then contacted customer services to make a complaint and was informed I had not been told that however that I was infact not listening.
Good luck to anybody using this service cause they not to be trusted.

Check the windscreen carefully. I collected my vehicle and checked all the bodywork pointing out a mark not listed. I did not look at the windscreen. On my return a small stone chip was pointed out .I'm sure it did not happen whilst in my possesion but an excess of 130 euros was put on my credit card. Pure fiddle

had a hire car of avis while my car was being repaired which should of been a severn seater they gave me a four seater 307 which was not very clean BE AWARE if they find any pet hairs they will bill you for £28 pounds even though the hairs are of your clothes beware of this con

DO NOT USE THEM!!!
I hired a car through Avis Europe. A 9 seater minibus from the middle of August. When we arrived at Paris they informed us that the car was not available even though we had booked 4 months in advance. My son suffered a very cramped journey in a smaller car. We the returned home and 3 weeks later received an invoice for £1288.00 which had been taken from our account. They said we had returned the vehicle 2 weeks late. We have emailed copies of receipts with times on etc ...

I paid 65 pounds here in UK and was told that i get a full tank of fuel and take it back full.i asked if i had to pay anything else and was told no this is all you pay.when i got to Larnaca i went to the Avis desk where i was confronted with a rude arrogant girl eating her dinner who really couldnt give a dam i asked about the fuel she said i had to pay a further 49 euros for fuel that i did not need or use and 17 euros government tax so my total bill was 130 pounds for 3 days, total rip off.

Outrageous overpricing. We hired through Thomas Cook in the UK and thought the hire was "all done and dusted". Not So !!!!. On our arrival in Portugal we paid excessive insurance payments in addition to another hire charge. We have complainmed to Thomas Cook and written letters to both parties but THEY have not had the decency to even reply with an acknowedgement. To date I would not recomend hiring in the UK as we did. I chose Avis who were more expensive than some others because the website said I could choose the make of car but when we arrived we were given something different which was smaller and not diesel. THe car had a lot of scrapes and damage but when we tried to get the assistant to note these she said she wouldn't as it only counted if she could see them from 6 feet!( i just hoped that her eyesight would be as poor when we returned the car a week later so I took my own photos) When we tried to exte ...

We hired car from Avis in Italy via Auto Europe. The day after we returned the car in what we believe to be the same condition as we received it, we had an amount of 248 Euros taken from our credit card for 'Accident Repairs' 7 weeks later, and having called both Avis and Auto Europe many, many times (and each time having to wait in a queue for ages) we still have no explanation from them, only to be told that they are 'investigating'.

I implore you - DO NOT USE Avis! Returned the car (which had scratches galore when I collected it) and returned it on a Bank Holiday Monday. Was told they would be closed so to park and leave the keys with the concierge in the hotel. TWO WEEKS LATER I receive an invoice for £210 as there was damage to the bumper (so they say!) - I was not involved in any collision when using the car and they were useless on the phone. I wonder how many other customers (who return a car when they're closed ...

Not much to rate or hate about Avis. We got a car upgrade which was nice but made little difference, and had a problem finding the car at Skavsta airport because the reservation desk is in the terminal and the car was in a multistory car park which the rep just waved a hand vaguely at. Only other thing is the usual slight concern about additional insurance policies, charges for child seats, and a cost for re-fuelling the car even though the tank was 90% full - unles the petrol station is literal ...

I hired a Golf size car via the web in December 2008 ready for our family holiday in Italy during August. Priced seemed fair and reasonable for a major global hire car company. I didn't copy the website sales terms...I wish that I had.

On arrival in Pisa airport I was told that the excess was 1000 euros on a fiat brava that turned out to have scapes all over it and had done 56627 km . I had to take out additional insurance to reduce this excess, which cost me 16 euros a day for ten days - 160 ...

After reading all reviews here, I was a bit worried about my reservation at Avis, but since it was a bit late to change my reservation, I went along with it. I must say, I'm glad I decided not to change. Between the estimated and the actual charges there was a difference of 10 euro, about 14 dollars.

So, no bad surprises - There was some light damage to the car I got, but the car, a Hyundai i10, was pleasant to drive. No, my experiences with Avis in Greece are decidedly better than other review ...

We booked our Avis rental car as part of a package deal. At Sanford airport I paid for the fuel and received my change. I had signed the documentaion believing it to be the receipt. When I returned home I received a second bill for the fuel. I spoke and e-mailed Avis Customer Services who sent e-mails to their head office. Terrible experience with Avis. We rented at Barcelona airport. Staff was extremely rude and impolite. Car we got was not cleaned properly, windows were smudgy and mirrors were unusable because of filth. I had to stop to clean windows before being able to drive at all. On car return same staff rudeness. As a small satisfaction, car I gave them back was covered in seagull's faeces (well, not my guilt to have seagulls allover Costa Brava), and I certainly hope guy that cleans had a big deal to remo ...

We hired an avis car at Barcelona Airport. Staff was extremely rude and impolite and car we got was not cleaned properly - windows were smudgy and mirrors were unusable so I had to pull over to clean the windows and mirrors in order to be able to drive at all. On a car return same staff rudeness, but at least the car I returned was covered in seagull's feces (not my fault they have a lot of seagulls on Costa Brava) so I certainly hope cleaning guy had a big deal to clean them all off. A WARNING - DO NOT USE AVIS Car rentals

Recently I rented a car from AVIS and on returning from my vacation found
that they had charged me an extra 135 EURO.

The people at the AVIS counter blatantly LIED to me I was told that a charge
was there FOR ADMINISTRATION purposes ONLY in the case of an accident -

No accident occurred and later I was told, NO that charge was for insurance.

I had already paid insurance when ordering the car - resulting in being
charged TWICE for insurance and N ...

Absolutely the worst rental experience ever. I will never use Avis again after this. The night-time rental assistant was so rude for a minute I thought I was on 'Candid Camera'. Unfortunately I wasn't, and it took two hours to go through the rental process. I didn't get out of there until 2am, and this made what was already a difficult trip even worse (was visiting elderly and unwell parents in Arkansas). Booked the car on the avis car hire web, which suggested excess of £450 could be reduced to £200 by an additonal payment of about £4/day, subject to a maximum payment of 7 days. When we came to collect the car we were advised that this option did not exist, and that the excess was £800, and this could only be reduced by taking out comprehensivce insurance at an additonal cost of £16.50/day.

I hired Nissan Micra (old banger) from Avis Car Hire in May 09 for 1 week with a full tank of petrol (return it empty)

On my credit card statement was the hire charge of 105 euros and £65.00 for the tank of petrol - I HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF

I have complained to AVIS Customer Care by email and they have not bottered to reply to me

We thought Avis were okay until we returned the car. The last day of our holiday we found that someone had stolen the glass from one of the wing mirrors, there was no other damage at all. Despite the terms saying 'negligent action' and we couldn't see how someone taking the glass from the car when it was parked out side the hotel was our fault, we had to pay 130 euro.

It wasn't even so much the amount - which does seem expensive for a piece of glass - it was the attitude of the staff. They just ...
