“Car rent rip off at Avis Barcelona airport”

i upgraded from Fiat Panda to a Audi A4 diesel and paid for 9 days € 810. I arrived wit a delay of 4 hours and 1 hour waiting at the Avis counter. I said yes to all insurances and co-rider extra was € 110 ! Full tank € 72 but you had to return the car with an empty tank. So I only used 1/3 so paid € 72 for that. Rest is profit for Avis!! “Absolute Disgrace”

Avis's customer service is an absolute disgrace. I am in a dispute with this company over a payment (they actually want £450 for a 2cm scratch to one of their alloys) Firstly they took the money off of my credit card without my permission - at the time of the damage they said if I signed the receipt they would take the money off my credit card - I didn't sign it and they still took the money off my card. “worst customer sevice”

Dreadful. Tried up sell on pickup. Got free! Upgrade. Clutch let go on the M3. More than 5 hours to get replacement. Then tried to blame me for car failure. I been driving with a clutch for over 30 years. They will refuse to talk to you till the contract is up. Got in contact with the corporate office. Over a week later still no resolution. “Charges for insurance I did not want”

I rented my car via British Airways. The pickup airport was Orlando, Florida. When I arrived there, the car was not available. That was ok, since it has happened before several times and they usually give you an upgrade. However in this case, the Avis employee didn't inform us of this situation once we got there. “Avis Fuerteventura”

We wanted to hire a car from Fuerteventura Airport for one week, on checking the Pricing online in England we decided on Avis, The main reason for this was the cost was very very reasonable. “Bad clutch”

Dreadful company. Was given a car which I find out has known clutch problems. Clutch let go on the M3 motorway.Took 5 hours to get a new car. They seemed to think I broke the car. I know home to use a clutch,have been doing so without a problem for over 30 years. Took almost an hour to get corporate phone number. Have been calling for 5 hours and still no call back. “Watch out with the Groups when you arrive”

I booked a Group C car from Avis in Athens. They provided me with a Fiat Punto which they said was Group C but after I returned home I found out it was Group A. Ipswich Avis uk have to be the worst car hire company I've ever dealt with not only did they give me the wrong group car that I pre booked and paid for they then did not book an extension which has resulted in them trying to overcharge me by£100 for a car that was the wrong group . I have spent hours dealing with customer services who have still not resolved this . I will probably instigate legal proceedings for illegal activities with my bank card. I used the North Harbor Drive, San Diego rental office when I collected my car two weeks ago and presented my documents indicating pre-payment. The assistant who dealt with me was extremely helpful but had problems recognising that the package deal I had already paid for included a full tank of petrol. I would never recommend AVIS. We flew to Paris-Beauvais Airport in April 2015, we were 6 friends so we booked a car with capacity for 7. We booked our car on internet a week before our trip. When we got to the airport we did not have our car, and the only solution they gave us was renting to cars for double the price. I am really surprised at the poor reviews. Having been ripped off in the past by some of the 'licensed bandits' who call themselves car hire firms, we always use Avis. Their call centre staff are second to none, being helpful, friendly and professional and their cars are always clean and of good quality. “Great Service from Avis Atlanta Car Rental”

We had great service when we collected our rental vehicle - even letting us try out a few different intermediate SUVs to see which one was easier for me to get into. I am having nightmare dealing with AVIS - Inverness airport. I picked-up a car on 10.20PM and called them back to repot a clutch problem on 10.40PM. I am an expereiecned driver and drove manual car for more than 10 years and would not ride the clutch. They towed the car back. Few days later, end up getting charged £1912 on my credit car without any intimation. Some existing problem elevated or it could be just aging of the cluth for which I ended up to pay. Firstly, send a recorded letter to Avis and the Credit card company requesting a refund, stating they have 30 days.

If they do not reply, or refuse, send them both a LETTER BEFORE CLAIM (Google it ). Companies often refund at this point because thy know you are not bluffing. The Letter MUST be set out correctly!

If they do not reply within the timescale or refuse, start a claim in the Small Claims Court, naming BOTH as defendants.

You don't need a solicitor to represent you, and the judge is used to hearing people put their own case.


n intention to proceed make a claim in the Small Claims Court, naming both Avis AND the Credit card company as defendants.

“They need to try harder, and treat customers fairly”

I would NEVER recommend this company for car hire. Flew into San Diego Airport in August 2014 for a vacation with my wife. The car hire had all been arranged before we travelled. I had also arranged and paid for additional insurance, so I wouldn't need to take out any once there. However, when uplifting the car I was asked to 'sign' (using small PDA's) the contracts. Exactly similar experience at same date at Orlando Int. Airport.
Insurance made the price almost double. At the desk there wasn't any mention about the extra price.
Now I'm trying to get help through Avis Finnish customer service, which seems to worth of nothing.
That was my last rental at any Avis.

Hired a car in the USA last summer. This had been booked via British Airways. The agent on the desk lied to us twice and we have ended up paying an additional $450 for a Ford focus hybrid when the original agreement was for a Ford Focus or similar. They only had a smaller car and as we were there for five weeks we needed a reasonable size. we were assured twice that the vehicle did not require additional payment. It took the Avis car shuttle three quarters of an hour to finally get us to the car hire office, one person on the desk, shocking state when it took nearly thrirty five mins to deal with one car hire. The car we Hired wasn't too bad, on handing it back, the girl checked it over and made sure there was a full tank of petrol then signed off our paperwork. All well! “Charged for a rental that I didn't make”

I was a regular business user with Avis. But then once while I was away on vacation they decided to deliver a car and charge me for it. Despite me telling them that I had not made the booking they still went ahead and made the delivery and charged the rental to me. “Overcharge”

Returned to an office outside of business hours as I was told I could do. I was subsequently charged an extra day because Avis claim the car was returned 24 hours later than it was. 5 months later and I've been refunded after involving .bvrla but Avis are apparently still claiming that their records are correct. They don't send an invoice so unless you notice the credit card charge is high, you'll never know. Oh, and it takes them 2 months to reply to any contact. AVOID AT ALL COSTS… Read Full Review
