I wanted a couple of suits for work. I went round a few shops that offered suits off-the-shelf, and had seen some very expensive suit shops online. For me, Slaters in Manchester offered a perfect compromise between these two extremes. The member of staff I was with didn't hurry me into choosing between styles, nor pressure me into getting more than I wanted. He was also thorough in getting the size just right. This is especially important since I struggle to find trousers that are right... (read more)

I went to Slaters for a suit. In the past I've bought off the peg suits which always felt a bit big around the waist/chest. I explained it all to the man on the shop floor who measured me up and showed me the suits in stock in my size. I chose a nice single-breasted suit with the gentleman's advice (he asked when and where I would be wearing it, how often etc.). As I'd gone in scruffy wearing jeans and casual shoes he even found me some shoes in my size, a shirt and a tie just so I could... (read more)

Just helped my brother pick a suit from Slaters in Dundee. Fantastic 'old fashioned service' where do you get that these days!! I needed a suit for a wedding in abroad. I've been shopping in different places ( Leeds,York & Harrogate ) and only saw 1 suit at £220 I was keen on. I didn't want grey or black but stone or something similar. Went to Slaters and picked one within 5 min's at £110 - I needed a Regular Jacket but short in trousers. No problem, leave them there, to alter - and pick them up 3 days later. The service was first class from 4 different members of staff I dealt with ( I also bought cufflinks ). I... (read more)

went to m&s to get a suit as people keep telling me they do great suits. Couldnt find what i wanted in the £200 range so tried the £149 performance which was supposed to be 100% wool, it felt very cheap so left and went to slaters and within about 5 mins of entering the shop had a 100% wool suit with no mods required fro £199 from the room at the end of the store which has the decent suits (read more)

My son went into this branch to buy his first suit, which he needed quite urgently, when he came home he told me the trousers neeeded the hem taken up. The suit was collected and when he tried it on the trousers were all puckered at the back, we both went back into store and got the seat of the trousers adjusted, a little bit better. The jacket is too big 46chest when a 44 would be better, I do think he could have been advised a lot better than he was, the jacket was a 46 chest and the... (read more)

I have just been to Slater Men’s Wear in Glasgow. I totally agree with your comments. They take you from when you enter the shop and they offer you a selection of goods that are cheep and shoddy. The do not listen to what you actually want. When you are partially forced to take a suit that is cheep and they tell you it needs altered but this is free. I looked on my receipt and it was not free. They tell you to come back like 4 hours later and the trousers they are tailoring will be ready. You get them home to find there is no loops for your belt to go through. The trousers are like a tent. The shirt you buy is also like a tent. The shoes you buy are cheep and won’t last a month.
I advise anyone who is thinking of going to Slaters DO NOT GO
This shop shows no customer service what so ever
They are only interested in the till department
I don’t even rate this shop as a single STAR

The staff at the Bolton store tried everything possible to locate a black jacket and unfortunately due to my size 54" chest could not find a stock item. I then went online to Slaters online store (Sunday night) found the item I needed and it was delivered direct from the store in Hull before lunch on Tuesday.
I would recommend both the high street store and the online store if anyone is looking for excellent service.

Hire dinner suit
I visited the Leeds branch after lunch to a quite store.
We were not greeted or offered help and once we found the staffed where uninterested and lacked the knowledge of the hire service we where inquiring about. A member of staff who did not give his name or greeted us shouted across the stairs to his colleague who then texted on his phone before raising his head and shuffled over. I shook his hand introducing both myself and my partner and he again did not give his name...

I have used Slater's shops around the company for some time. Excellent choice of stock and impeccable service from a knowledgeable staff, who are consistently both knowledgeable and helpful. My shoe size is 12, and as in previous visits they had little or nothing to offer in this size. The company seems to persist with Ben Sherman which is very into slim fit which is very small. I ended up buying an XXL polo shirt for the 1st time which is very tight anyway. Otherwise, the selection was very 'suity' and dated. The service from sales staff was at it's normally impeccably high standard but it was plain to see that even they were disillusioned. Having been an account holder for... (read more)

I rarely shop in Birmingham and found this shop just off the main street
The selection was really good and the price to match. I found everything I was looking for in Slaters and was really pleased with the service also.
Found when I got home (50 miles away) that I had picked up a L size instead of a XL which was my mistake. After a brief conversation with a member of staff on the phone it was agreed that I send back the smaller shirt and they will send me the larger shirt to my home in the...

Overall: Fantastic Place, Fantastic People, Extremely happy with my purchase
I'll admit now that I'm not particularly good with fashion, I'm far more practical than anything - so when a friend told me that he was getting married (and later that I was going to be one of the best men!) my first port of call was to look around for a suit.
A friend took me into Slaters in Birmingham. On entering I just went 'Wow!' - Suits as far as I could see. The Sales person came up to us to introduce himself...

I used the Crawley Slaters for the first time last year. The service was so good that we have returned again and again. We recommend Slaters to everyone that asks about suits, as we truly believe their service is second to none.
I am not the easiest person to get a fitted suit for, and if it's wrong my suits look awful, the difference between my chest/shoulders and waist is not even close to average, and so 'off the peg' hang like sacks from me. The staff at Slaters spent a great deal of...

Discovered the Liverpool branch 2 years ago and I literally do not shop anywhere else for clothes. I buy my work suits there and for between £50 to £100 less then Next, John Lewis or M&S. I get an excellent suit and I am served by someone who knows about tailoring and fitting rather than a disinterested teenager. Alterations are also done for free.
I cannot praise this store highly enough.
