Good Points: Intelligent Sand-box world, with no hand holding for intelligent gamers, fantastic graphics that do not need a high end PC, like so many games. Superb AI for both NPC's and creatures with factions and mercenaries and the military all vying for control of the 30km gameplay area around the nuclear power station. Because of the 'A-Life' world, this game can create fantastic fire-fights and NPC/Creature interactions. Unlike other survival games, STALKER does not throw 100's of nasty creatures at you, but rather keeps them well spread apart, meaning a constant dread. Much more effective in my opinion and therefore much more scary!

Bad Points: Like so many open-world, sandbox games, STALKER was released with a slew of bugs. We now have 3 patches 1.001, 1.003 and 1.004 that solve 90% of the problems, mods like Faekes 2.3 mod, a compilation of about 30 compatible mods that fix the other 10% and make the gameplay even better with weapon repair, more realistic trading, new creatures AI tweaks and much more! The game starts slowly and leaves you to your own devices. It does not hold your hand like so many shooters do, but this means you have more to work out yourself. The same complaint given to most sandbox games like Oblivion, Gothic or Space Rangers 2.

General comments: I have around 30 hours into this game and have barely scratched the surface. This game is worthy of the score I have given it for value for money alone, given that it easily has 80 hours of gameplay, and because of the A-Life system and 7 different endings this game can be played multiple times whilst still being fun. We get so little open-ended sandbox games on PC of any description, but those we do get are inevitably fantasy based with wizards and goblins. We have waited nearly 10 years for another apocalyptic game, the last being Fallout 2, we will probably have to wait another year for Fallout 3, so to get a quality survival horror game based in a post apocalyptic world is so rare that this game is surely manna from heaven for those into the Fallout/Wasteland type worlds - which I am one of!

Do yourself and PC gaming a favour: Buy this game and show publishers that 15 hour on the rail shooters are not what we want for our hard-earned money. We want open worlds and replayability - something that STALKER provides in spades!

Once the bugs have been ironed out, this game will be remembered as a landmark in gaming history. If you liked Oblivion and enjoy post apocalypse stories, this is the game for you.

This game would have been no1 if it had come out two years ago when it was first being released, now it looks dated, Half Life 2 is much better game play and graphics. This game is a good budget game, so wait for it to come out on budget. I find that the game does little to grab you and keep you interested, it is hard work to enjoy it
