Good Points: All wood and metal construction Very accurate Above average power Proven design Loud

Bad Points: Loud Average trigger Low number of shots per Co2 cartridge Painted finish No windage adjustment

General comments: I've wanted one of these guns since the first time I saw it. The compact design, good weight, and quality materials make it feel like more than the average pellet gun. Fit and finish- Let me start by saying this, no plastic. Seriously, none in the entire gun (inside or out). This is unheard of this day in age! Sure, the painted finish leaves something to be desired and perhaps the quality of the wood grips could be a tad better but I don't think you are going to find anything better in this price range. The gun is well proportioned and fits nicely in a standard pistol holster which is a pleasant bonus. Internals- The tube, barrel, and receiver are all manufactured using brass which would explain the painted finish. It is the same method used on the Benjamin line of rifles and has certainly stood the test of time. The valve / hammer arrangement is the same as most Co2 pistols meaning it is robust but nothing technically challenging. Servicing the valve is easier than on the rifles as there are no special tools required for removal. The trigger is stiff out of the box however, a lighter spring and some lubrication results in a light but somewhat creepy pull that is certainly tolerable. The bolt uses a small internal catch to hold in the open and closed position. This is adjustable and can be accessed by removing the two screws found on the side of the receiver. Touches like this show that this gun is made to last. Velocity and accuracy - The moment we've all be waiting for. The bottom line, this is one of the few guns I've tested that would meet it's advertised velocity. Using standard weight pellets (7.9 grain Crosman Premiers) at an ambient temperature of 86 degrees, this gun can do all of 500fps. The lowest readings I've obtained have been high 400's which may be too low for hunting purposes, it is certainly enough for duty as a back-up gun or plinking over longer distances. Accuracy is quite good as well with 5 shot 10 yard groups barely larger than a single pellet hole. There is a fair amount of muzzle flip to contend with due to the short barrel but once you figure this out, getting good groups becomes second nature. Although the sights have very limited adjustment, I found them to be dead on target out of the box. The sight blade is narrow enough to allow for very good accuracy without the need for an additional sighting system. The bottom line- This is one of those guns that everyone should have. The quality of the materials and the robust design show that it is in in it for the long haul. Although paint is not my favorite finish for any gun, whatever it is Benjamin uses, it is tough stuff and maintains it's appearance very well. If I had to choose one word to describe this gun, it would be "heirloom".

Your comments of the windage issue with the Benjamin Crosman EB17 I have noted, but may I suggest that the correction of the windage issue may be better achieved by elongating the front screw hole in a left and/or right direction, if the existing limitations are not enough. I found the same issue with my EB9a. I personally would be a reluctant to file off the front flang, and then rely on twisting the rear sight assembly. I imagine that this must change the site picture of the front sight throu ...

Although this article appears under the heading of the Crosman EB17 I will be talking about the Crosman EB9a pistol. I suspect that the difference between the EB9a series and the EB17 is the name only. Perhaps Crosman will correct me if I am incorrect!. I have had my EB9a for a little over a year. At that time I paid £83. for it. The best price that I have seen for this pistol recently is £109. (Airsport Direct in the UK). I would describe this pistol as an entry point target p ...

I purchased the Benjamin Crosman EB17 Co2 Pistol after reading the reviews on several sites, and on the recommendation of a friend. I paid $89 US for the pistol at a local sporting-goods establishment, and was immediately impressed by the quality of the fit and finish. There is not a single piece of plastic that I can locate on this pistol, and the metal components are machined very nicely. The casting that forms the grip frame and the trigger guard is slightly rough in two places, but not ex ...

I bought the Benjamin Crosman EB17 Co2 Pistol (after much online research) for shooting at my local indoor ten metre range - the reviews I found suggested it was accurate, powerful (which seemed a good idea at the time), CO2 powered (which made it score higher in my mind than the reputedly hard to cock Wiehrauch HW40 pneumatic, and within my budget at around £105. I'd ordered a Sheridan Prohunter in .177", but what actually arrived was a Benjamin EB-17 - which is totally identical as f ...

These C02 pistols have been around forever, which speaks to their desirability. I am a Tempest fan, but when cocking barrels gets old, this little wonder picks up the slack! The Benjamin version of years past seemed to be more refined in workmanship. They have a brass barrel, which means you must take extra care when cleaning. The protective coating on the metal parts is thin, so keep up on rust prevention. This is not a "match" grade pistol. However, this is a pistol you will derive many h ...

The Benjamin Crosman EB17 Co2 Pistol just might be the finest CO2 pistol in the world. Mine is in .20 and the power on a new co2 is phenomonal. The power is sufficient to rival some rifles and the stopping power of a .20 cylinrical pellet at 430fps is enough to take small game at up to 15-20yds. The trigger is light but has an indeffinate release point making it hard to get comfortable. Despite this the accuracy is great. At 20yds the groups are about an inch wide and two inches tall. I prefer ...

I really am enjoying this Benjamin Crosman EB17 Co2 Pistol. I think it is great for shooting at a casual pace. I really like the construction and it seems very accurate. It is powerfull and however,it likes to eat c02. I would say you start loosing power after about 25-30 shots. If you don't mind single shot, this is a great choice. When I was shopping around, I was turned off by the fact that I would have to reload everytime, however I decided I would sacrifice that for power, and I am gl ...
