“Completely ripped off”

Warning rant ahead: Due to unforseen circumstances I had to use ATS Euromaster in Finneston for what i thought would be a tick in the box MOT. Before i handed the car over i forgot to show them a slight crack in my back light cover (where some old biddy clipped my parked car). The swines called me later to say they failed the car of that alone and told me the crack was too big. They wanted to charge me £200 for a new light. “Did unnecessary work without permission! ”

My car failed it's MOT yesterday at a different garage on emissions, they advised new catalytic converter. I have a receipt from last year showing that ATS replaced this a year ago and they have a 2 year warranty on cats etc. So booked it in for this morning to have the cat replaced on the warranty. At 11am they ring me to say they replaced the cat AND the lambda sensor and I owe them £144! No one has got back to me as of yet. I have just tried to call the lady I spoke to yesterday and apparently the office closes at 4.30pm! So another night wondering if I will receive a refund or not. £144 is the difference between food and no food for us at the moment and I'm starting to think I should have (illegally) taken my car and left without paying. How can it take 24+ hours to "get the area manager to call me back"? If no one calls me tomorrow with a resolution I will be contacting trading standards immediately. I have the supposedly 'faulty' part removed from my car and can obtain a statement from the other garage stating that it did not need replacing.
On the test sheets for the emission tests ATS carried out are the times at which they were done (after replacing each part) and my phone records show that they called me once after both tests were done and both parts were replaced, not BEFORE the second part was replaced to gain my permission.
Also when I picked up the car I noticed my vents were on and turned up to full heat. There is no reason they would have had to have done this and leads me to believe they may have falsified the emission test results. The test on the Cat should be done with the engine hot, so if they were blasting heat out of the engine to cool it, the Cat may fail the test, "proving" that the lambda sensor was at fault, when in fact it wasn't.

“Woman ripped off!”

I went into ats in Welwyn Garden City on Friday to get a new exhaust, £209 fair enough. Asked them to have a look at my break pads and said yep you need two on the front, I saw one of them and yes it was very worn, the other looked ok to me. I was told I was lucky it wasn't metal on metal otherwise I would need new discs also. “air conditioning re charge”

Booked an air conditioning re charge at the Accrington Branch. Was kept waiting when asked to collect vehicle, had to wait a further 1/2 hour. Was told there was a leak on the condenser and that this would cost £190 to fix. Took the car to a reputable garage for a re gas and was told everything was ok. “Very poor service and dishonest”

Bow ATS, took the car in with brake problems, had discs and pads changed in excess of £250.00 The brakes are worst then when taken in. Took it back to be told that they had fitted an substandard part and that yes the brakes are not great. It did not help that he had informed me he made an emergency stop, which resulted in a big scratch on the disc. “How to lose three customers for 20 quid”

Took my car in for the brake fluid to be replaced following an exemplary free brake check a week before. Had we stopped there I would have given ATS 5 stars. I was quoted £39 for the fluid change and took £50 with me. The "mechanic" (and I use the term loosely) had to keep asking an older colleague what to do next - nothing wrong with that we all have to learn - but brakes are literally THE safety critical part of any vehicle. “Damage”

Took my car into ATS in Rochdale on the 9th July to have 4 tyres swopped over onto some new wheels. After picking the car up i noticed that there was a dent on the top of the front wing and a scratch alongside it on the bonnet. I immediately rang the ATS depot and asked if i could go down straight away to look at CCTV footage from within the depot around the time that the job was done on my car. Got to the garage in st Leonard's last sat at 430 the garage actually shuts at 5pm on Saturdays we checked this as a key factor in getting the nearest garage with the latest closing times. Being an ex-employee I know the tricks that ATSE pull to cut corners. When carrying out an AirCon recharge the system should be checked for leaks first!, but to speed things up the system isn't checked most of the time. This is due to pressure from the Area Manager to sell more in a day! Customers often come back a few days later complaining that the AC has stopped working, only to be told yes you have a leak and there is nothing more ATSE can do and doesn't offer any refund neither!
