“Disgusting ”

written by Denogs on 13/03/2024

I went to get a quote for an exhaust for my elderly neighbour Ford Fiesta this morning. I was gobsmacked a breakdown of the total price. Rear box and pipe £400 plus , Labour £300 .. and a total of 3 hours to fit . This was at National Tyres Mochdre Colwyn Bay. Absolutely scandalous.. Went to my local Advance Auto . Purchased both parts £235 + .What an amazing difference.. Thank you Advance.

“If there was a zero rating I'd give that!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by dctiv on 05/10/2023

If there was a zero rating, I'd have given that! Shocking experience. Very poor service from Tiverton branch. I ordered 4 tyres online, and received confirmation of the order having been processed. The following day, I was called by a woman at the Tiverton depot, who advised I had to call the online team to order my tyres as they wouldn't speak to her. This seemed odd, as an online order is surely then automated. However, I did as requested, but trying to contact said team was impossible. The phone system was hopeless, and actually asked me the questionnaire about the call experience without even having spoken to anyone. Managed to try again and was put through to wrong team, who then reverted me back to the first queue. I called the branch the following day to be advised that the tyres had arrived there after all, so my appointment the next day was as planned. 8 minutes before the appointment for the tyre change, I was called to say they couldn't find my tyres - they weren't there. The guy said he wasn't normally at that branch but he couldn't speak to the woman who told me the tyres were there. Therefore we would need to reschedule. Arrived at the branch anyway, and cancelled order for a full refund. Waste of a 25 mile round trip. Bought from ATS instead, for same price, and no hassle. Won't be using National again. They blamed it all on Halfords taking them over!

“Prepare to be lied to!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 468Jensen on 25/08/2023

Took my car to the dealer for a service and MOT. I was advised that the front brake pads would need changing within the next few months and was quoted a price of £180 to do the work. Approximately 500 miles later I took the car to National tyres to have the brakes checked and was told that the front discs, front pads and the rear pads need changing at a cost of £460 and the work must be done this week or else! Do not trust National Tyres, they will lie to you!

“Extremely rude receptionist ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Forsyth100 on 28/07/2023

Just booked for 4 tyres to be fitted & front+rear wheel alignment tomorrow. Called the local Portsmouth, Rodney Rd, branch to ask if they could also investigate a clunking noise. Receptionist was extremely rude with no customer service skills or whatsoever. Was told that she's extremely busy & don't have time to waste on the phone. I had to cancel the booking as she's very busy and doesn't care about other services that I require. She cancelled my booking within seconds. THANKS NATIONAL TYRES / HALFORDS for employing such staff who do not care about customers.

“Excellent ”

written by BrianStubbs on 18/07/2023

I had a great experience today. I had been to Middleton tip (Ls10) in my estate car getting rid of the usual rubbish and pulled up into Asda car park. A lovely chap, pulled up in his National Tyres and Autocare van. He mentioned I had a flat tyre and would I like it pumping up, I replied yes and as he was pumping the tyre up it was plain to see the valve had gone. He said he could replace it, I thanked him and he spent the next few minutes removing my tyre and fitting a new valve. When I asked him how much he said’ no it’s free, it was only a valve and only took me five minutes’. I tried to give him some money but he just refused it. Throughout he was very polite and professional and just an absolutely lovely person. It really made my day. I would highly recommend National Tyres and Autocare.

“Damaged wheels and angry manager”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ashleycoombs205 on 09/05/2023

Went to Weston branch due to past quality work. This time tho not the case. When I had 4 tyres fitted to my wheels when I got home I noticed damage on 3 wheels so rang the centre was told to pop in Monday to speak to the manager. Monday, manager wasn’t happy that I’d contact customer service via email then tried to tell me the marks on my wheels are due to hitting curbs. I’d stated that one of the alloys has small markings on from a car wash incident. Now my old tyres didn’t have a mark on them from touching any curbs. My wheels except 1 was mint! Typical got the tyre shop next door to look at my wheels (suspect pre warned of my turning up) he looked over it and pointed to the spokes having what looks like curb marks to him. Missed the part between where paint has flaked off due to poor tyre fitting. Then the manager got me into the workshop by the tyre machine and tried to show me the tools used and a plastic guard (supposed to help protect the wheels from the head of the machine) I stated was that guard used to his reply yes… yet he wasn’t in that day. So he couldn’t confirm this. I’d pointed this out…. he flipped out and pretty much square up to me. Professional behaviour from management hey.. I’d then had a call from the area manager this morning and got the same story. Curb damage…. I’d stated if those wheels were previously damaged why wasn’t I informed before work was carried out or even pictures taken time/dated. I was at the centre waiting… I’m an engine machinist and repairs, any vehicle before it comes in the workshop gets checked over and customer informed before vehicle work is started.. common sense if you ask me.

“Halfords takeover - downhill for National”

★★☆☆☆

written by GiannaDuckworth on 02/05/2023

My two local National garages offered a generally OK service. But following their take-over by Halfords it's chaos as staff juggle with different internet platforms, worry about their jobs and lose their mobile fitting service to their new owner. sadly there's little commonality of stock between the two companies, very little communication and those conflicting websites and systems. And, of course, Halford's higher prices! So deliveries get cancelled, as mine did. And National loses its customers to KwikFit and local garages. It's lesson in upping the quality of your management team to handle a takeover

“Will never be back”

★☆☆☆☆

written by McMahan312 on 26/02/2023

Firstly the guy who worked at the reception area at the Dunfermline branch was rather rude, it was clear that customers were just an inconvenience to him. When I told him I had a puncture and would need a new tyre, he said, leave it with me, when asked what the price would be, he quoted me £25 more than what was advertised online. When I queried this (politely I may add) he became aggressive, raising his voice stating something along the lines of web prices always being cheaper. When I said I wasn’t interested, he followed me to my car ranting the whole time. I can see why a lot of female drivers avoid these places.

“Awful customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/02/2023

Sat nav for the post code sent me down a couple of back streets got there at 8:42 for a 8:30 MOT. Place didn’t open till 8:30am and was told that they then couldn’t fit me in for any slot during the day even though the website said I could book in for 12:30. Awful customer service, just for for that alone won’t be back.

“excellent customer service”

★★★★★

written by Dunewith on 24/12/2022

Christmas Eve, called in to Ratcliffe Terrace, Edinburgh, depot on spec with a puncture (dealt with an agent). All but one of bay shutters were down as staff were clearing up ready to leave. There was no indication of annoyance or irritation from any of the staff and they got me sorted and on my way with good grace and pleasantry. I was impressed by the integrity of the staff who dealt with me and this is now my centre of choice for car repairs. Will recommend this depot to friends. Was going to do a Trust pilot review but don't like being required to sign up.

“Exemplary service from Wrexham Team”

★★★★★

written by Caylee221 on 04/11/2022

Not all National Tyres are equal, I see, after reading many reviews. Though the one in Wrexham was exemplary for me personally. This is based on my experience at the Wrexham site. Honestly, I'm guilty of only writing a review if significantly fired up by an anger-inducing service, intent on warning others and venting rage. It's extremely rare, usually solely on Amazon somewhere as the 2-step authentication, logging on...make it a hassle: who has time. Post-Covid, trying to be more grateful, less selfish. I've relied on other people's reviews after all. On this rare occasion, I'm compelled to review. Surprised at other reviews. Advice - dig deep: 'A good test of a good place is how they address problems and accept: can't please 100% people 100% of the time. This is based specifically on my experience at Wrexham. Also give companies a chance to resolve your problem when you've calmed down as sometimes, admittedly, you could be part of the problem. Apologies if my review is long: I expect a basic level of service. Exemplary, if I'm to write a rare review... Not easily impressed. You can stop reading now - take my word - exceptional 10 stars to Wrexham National Tyres for an exceptional service had, otherwise read on for reasons why. I required 2 premium tyres for MOT but NOW! As well as tracking, balancing. Also wanted tyres rotating, yeh...wanting extras, in a short turnaround time, cheaper than anywhere else......not ideal. Bought tyres for 20 years, started with budget in a budget car; got what I paid for, didn't last long, poor handling in wet, extra fuel costs. Long run: budget tyres not cheaper, would prefer to spend money on fun not safety, but...tyres - buy best you can afford - even if best budget. You get it back when you sell the car; shows a car looked after if you at least got the shoes right... (also, planet - don't waste)! Really is nicer to drive. do your research, don't take my experience as gospel. I've found (own experiences + female colleagues, friends and relatives): rock up to an ordinary car place/with your performance car + knowing nothing = judged and fleeced randomly + accordingly (makes no sense). I'm sure we've all experienced that sharp intake of a breath from the mechanic, one hand rubbing his chin, one hand on hip, looking at your car, not you, as he says, 'it's going to cost, not good news I'm afraid'...then delivering the punch and eye watering kick of how you been risking life in an unroadworthy car...? And then in the future finding a different opinion. This is so prevalent for me when visiting the (male-dominated industry) mechanic (sorry guys), it makes visiting the dentist like a spa day. So, ladies, know your stuff; research, be informed - then minimal wool pull over eyes... Yes? Also, if you want Triangle ...go to a place where primary business focus is Triangle. You want tyres? Go National Tyres. They're competitive on price; knowledgeable on product; have what you need in stock or a good alternative, without waiting 3 days; and they're efficient. No costly last-minute problems, fictitious or otherwise. Just what it says on the tin: TYRES. NATIONAL TYRES. Sorry to any small local businesses, in my experience this is what I've had, time over. I learned the hard way and combat it through knowledge and silence. My approach to tyres - I research, I buy them online, have them fitted at Chester. But this time, attended Wrexham. one off. Nervously. WOW. Brilliant. Should always have spent my money here. Accommodated at very short notice (online wasn't delivering so rang them, they were flexible, sorted). I got beautiful, exciting tyres (researched reviews forever), balanced, tracked, rotated, quickly and efficiently, online discounted price was honoured (thank you) - as discussed beforehand on the phone, so cheap too.... passed my MOT, saved the day, saved my finances, my safety, my time and stress levels. The proof is in the handling and driving afterwards in the rain. Superb, fell in love with my car again (Goodyear Eagle 5's....heart emoji here...). Most great of all was the exemplary customer service from two separate staff who were amicable, personable, helpful and knowledgeable - first thing in the morning too. I was respected, listened to, not patronised (these are given basics obviously). I got unconditional free advice about minors to be mindful off at a later date; no hard sell based on fears of safety. Just what I needed as a busy, financially prudent mum in half-term. My son even got a badge! Oh, and patient and relaxed as my card was declined and I was faffing about with paying and transferring money. Much more. but got to draw a line somewhere. Overall - 10 stars not 5. Try them. I was very happy. Highly recommend. Thanks Wrexham. ACE. Peace of Mind. Give it a go LADIES and Give credit where due in this industry.

“Great service from Kye and NT.”

★★★★★

written by AlanInSuffolk on 13/04/2022

Cannot fault. Time was between 8.30am and 1pm. 13/04/2022 Got to me just before 1pm and was done before 2pm. Brought the correct tyres, told me all I needed to know and was very knowledgeable. Had 4 Avon ZT7 XL fitted. Kye was polite at all times and got on with the job and completed it very professionally. Gave me tips and general info about my vehicles tyres, why they were not in good consition despite good tread and why my wheels were in perefect condition. (basically the tyres were on the van since new, 2016) and yes my mileage is very low. Under 20k. Even my spare is unused and in perfect codntions. It was a pleasure to chat with him and watch his skills and learn something. I wish him all the best for the future which I am sure is bright. National would be stupid to let him go. I employ many people so know a good one when I see them. Kye is young but, definitely knows his job. Recommended. 10/10

“National Farce”

★☆☆☆☆

written by shitenat on 10/02/2022

I was recommended to use National TYres for a mobile tyre fitting by a friend who said this company is trustworthy and reliable. This was my very first time using National Tyres and it was awful as a new customer being polite as stronger words do come to mind. I expected this level of incompetence and treatment on every level from a back street run down garage. I took time away from going to work physically and instead worked from home not being able to fulfill all my work duties on the 2nd February 2022 with the given morning time slot of between 8:30am to 1pm for the tyres to be fitted mobile at my home address. I received a phone call from the National call centre at 10:30am approx. on the 2nd February 2022 to say the local fitters van was off the road till the end of the week and National will have to reschedule which i accepted as it was something out of anyone's control and was given a peasently 5% discount for a wasting morning. We agreed to a new booking date / time slot for the 9th February 2022 with a morning slot of between 8:30am to 1pm again with confirmation email as attached . This brand has let me down from the offset so why was i not surprised that i get another phone call this morning being 9th February 2022 at 10:00am approx. from National Tyres not only to say they cannot fit my tyres BUT they DO NOT have them in stock well that's a new one for me considering i have had 2 emails which are attached CONFIRMING my order has been accepted AND PROCESSED. So now not only was the van off the road last week now they don't have stock of the tyres.

“Customer for the past 15 years - - Dont buy tyre guarantee”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 22/09/2021

Over the past 15 years, we have been using National tyres and have replaced all our tyres with them. Keeping business local is something we take pride in doing. This is particularly relevant to my recent car, which has had 10 tyres replaced within 58k miles (£110 per tyre so a reasonable investment). Our most recent experience suggests, however, that customer retention is not at the heart of the organisation, and they are only interested in making money. As a rule, I have purchased a tyre guarantee and have used it when I experienced a slow puncture. This time on a tyre with 4.5/5mm tread left, so it was a good tyre still. The puncture was on the edge of the wall and could not be repaired. I had anticipated that the tyre would need to be replaced at this point but glad I had the guarantee, so I thought! However to find that in fact the guarantee will only cover 40% of the cost as it is worn was sort of understanable, however then being told it would cost me £110 to replace under the guarantee, when I had only paid £104 for the Bridgestone tyres, left me somewhat surprised. Being told the price is not based on what you paid, but the cost of the list price of the tyre. Therefore, I decided to ask if the cost of replacing the 2 front tyres could be a way of a contribution being used; I was informed that the deal would be based on the internet price( As they cant discount in store tyres lower than the internet). Wow a company that competes with itself.. Therefore, I would lose my 40% contribution, and so in theory I have no guarantee and so just wasted my money. In my opinion, I would not bother purchasing the tyre guarantee service, since it is not worth the paper on which it is printed. In my opinion, you should save your money and go to a different retailer because a tyre is a tyre, and until recently, it was the customer service that had me returning, but now that has been lost... Well done, National Tyres..

“Car in for new tyre ended up with car unable to start !!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rachelt47 on 19/10/2020

Took car in to have a new tyre fitted , car was left running for 25 minutes as they wanted to look at exhaust even though that’s not what car was taken in for !! Guy came out your car has overheated we need to cool it down , sat there for another half hour they said they couldn’t cool it down and I would have to leave car there and come back the next day they said the fan for engine was disconnected I have never had a problem with car overheating ever !! Phoned up next day they said car had cooled and was it on test run and I could pick it up later on , arrived there to be told do you want good or bad mews good news it car has cooled bad news it won’t go !! They then said they didn’t know what had happened or what was wrong with it , it may have been when they tried to connect fan or poured water on engine to cool it !! But they couldn’t do anything I left the car there and said I wanted it back in condition I left it is working !!They said they would speak to area manager , next day was told it was starter motor for engine £110 to fix it , I had to pay this as i need car for work and didn’t know what else to do was told if I wanted old pet back it would be another £45 !!! Complained to customer services and got a call today from regional manager very rude man abrupt and basically told not our problem not our responsibility!! So I take my working car in to get a tyre fitted they decide to leave it running for 25 minutes till it overheats I am then left without a car they have no idea what is wrong yet the next day they suddenly know what is wrong ? The attitude of the guy in the garage and the manager was disgraceful I would never ever use this company again !!!

“MOT cheating”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SylwiaSu on 09/10/2020

Dear Sir/Madam, I brought my car YG59NKU for MOT test on 29th September to the Poole Branch. My car failed on: Offside Rear Inner Brake pad(s) less than 1.5 mm thick; Nearside Headlamp light intensity severely reduced; Offside Front Coil spring fractured or broken. I took the car to a different garage for a repair. I have changed rear brake pads and brake caliper, front coil spring and also changed the headlamp (bought a new one in EuroCarParts). I returned on 1st October for a retest and I was charged 27 pounds and again failed, tester told me that the lamp is not brand new and he is not able to adjust the headlamp aim down. So I took my car to a different MOT station and they did not have any problem with adjusting the lamp. I asked Poole branch for a retest and they said it will be a full MOT now. I told them that they were wrong and my headlamp is completely good and they were cheating on me and I want a free retest or a refund of money spent with them but they said “NO”. So I took the car to a different place and it passed MOT without any issues. I paid for MOT tests 35 and 27 pounds to National Tyres and Autocare in Poole and 50 pounds with a different garage.

“Absolutely awful Experience!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Schneiderww20 on 19/08/2020

Absolutely shocking experience with National Tyres Farnborough! I went to get my wheel alignment done there and they made it worse than it was when I went in!! The steering wheel was at the 3 o’clock position when meant to be straight!! They took it for a test drive before giving me it and he said it was perfectly fine, so they are lyes and will damage your Car. It cost me more money to go to another garage which gave me a brilliant service! Avoid at all costs! Staff don’t care and there incompetent at there job!! I hope they get shut down!!!

“Horrible experience. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Delboyuk on 06/07/2020

I had a terrible experience and bad service at the Byfleet branch. I have 4 vehicles and have been dealing with them for tyres and MOT's for over 4 years. Recently I contacted them to buy 4 new tyres, but they did not stock that particular brand. I was told by one of the guys that if I could buy them on line and bring them in for fitting. I purchased them and took them in today only to be told by "the manager" that they "weren't allowed to fit customers tyres" - end of. I tried to explain, but he was arrogant, dismissive and simply refused to listen to my explanation at all. As someone fighting cancer, I found it stressful and frustrating and as a result I will not be going back to any branch of National Tyre, nor will I ever recommend them. Maybe the company should train it's managers to understand that without customers, you do not have a business - something that many businesses have found out since the COVID 19 pandemic.

“Appauling”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Orrmk485 on 01/06/2020

Ordered tyres. Money was taken and then a week later and just a day before fitting I was left a voicemail informing me that the tyres ordered could not be gained and funds would be refunded. This took an eternity and overall the service was sloppy, unprofessional and items are published that this company just doesn't have in stock. As others have said - Avoid
