Good Points: generally quick book in, can omn occaision provide some good "deals" occaisionally knowledgable staff. Will often replace small item MOT fails without charge or asking if vehicle overall 'pass'.
General comments: I have used National Tyres for quite a few years at my local depot, and although on occasion very pricey, service has been good. I am at an advanced level of mechanical understanding, having done all my own work (except welding), and built and fitted my own engines and custom exhausts for over 25 years. Now I simply don't have the time. Recently my local branch has deteriorated considerably in its quality of service and approach. The first instance involved one 5yr old, 40,000 mile vehicle put in for an MOT. I received a call regarding items that would need doing to pass it (usual minors eg bulbs etc) then I was told that the front disc pads (replaced approx 4000 miles earlier) and disks were very badly worn and thus dangerous (obvious fail) remember this was included along WITH the fails items, the fitter kept re iterating that really they needed doing, to pass the MOT! The fitter never actually said that it had failed on them, very strange, but could be just a grammatical error. Needed vehicle, no time to do so said go ahead, cost approx £179 (would have cost me 2 hours plus approx £60). On checking the accompanying fail sheet to the MOT NO MENTION OF DISKS!
Current one, sent wife down with spec of tyres that I wanted on different vehicle and for an MOT. Came back with budget ones, and they told her she couldn ' t have the others! They were only for high performance sports cars! (They are AVON ZV3's have a look, honestly!) (Funny, they fitted the sports car ones, at their recommendation on a 1.6 Astra club that takes 2 hours to reach 60mph!) When tackled, firstly they said the deathslides (yes that ' s how they are known in the reviews!) were equivalent (so why not just fit the originals?) then denied the others had been fitted to the Astra by them! Apparently only Porsches (my example) etc can have this reasonable economy tyre!). Then denied the size existed! The AVON site has them as do the other depot! Anyway, currently awaiting the others to come in, yes the issue was stock and probably what the company was telling them to push that week! In the end, the customer shouldn't have to spend numerous phone calls arguing to purchase an item they want as long as it is appropriate and safe!

I think the young individual who took my car to test the brakes has damaged my transmission on my car by putting the gears into neutral which according to the manual will damage the automatic transmission. I am wondering if any one reading this review can let me know what can be done with my very costly and disappointing situation.

Driving to work and got a flat tyre. Called in to National Tyres and Autocare in Wigan, and paid £176 for 2 tyres fitted, which I did think was on the steep side but went ahead anyway as I couldn't go far with a flat tyre! I am normally a bargain hunter and shop around for deals on the internet. I was told they are decent tyres, similar standard to Continental, Michelin, and currently on offer as a buy one get one half-price deal.
I don't quite believe I received the deal they were offeri ...

After a roadside breakdown due to binding brakes, I called the AA and was advised to get my break calipers serviced. I took my vehicle to the Camden branch of National Tyres and Autocare. After I explained the problem 2 members of staff said it was most likely to be caused by the calipers. The fitter removed the wheels, and after a brief inspection told me I needed to replace the brake discs and pads.
The cost was to be 267.00 inclusive.
At that point I should have refused on 2 counts. One, ...

Went to Edinburgh branch of National Tyres two months ago to get some new tyres fitted. They told me my cv boot needed replacing so had that done at a cost of £60.Two months later (and I've been out of the country for one month not driving) and the car has failed its MOT because boot is leaking because it was fitted with a plastic tie rather than a metal one. Unsafe to drive. spoke to the company and they said that I could take it to a branch to be redone which I'm not happy about doing du ...

I had a puncture, screw in the tyre, Saturady morning. Went along to the Bexleyheath branch and expected to have to leave the tyre while they fixed it but the 3 lads fitted the repair in round all the other things they were doing. The price quoted included everything, no added expense for new valve etc, so no suprise when the time came to pay.
