I decided to upgrade my old GPZ750 to a touring bike. After extensive research i could not go past the GTR1000. Since purchacing the bike i am amazed at the quality of the build considering its age. The bike handles well around corners, although it is heavy with a full tank. The bike has done 82,000klms and this did concern me. I am very particular about the condition and paid particular notice to the overall look. Yes the bike does look dated but hey this bike is a proven 1980's era machine. Kawasaki did get this right. I have had the minor issues with the mirrors saging but this is easy fixed. The engine and gearbox is very quiet. The bike does vibrate slightly at around 4000k revs but this is acceptable. Overall why pay an extra $3000 for an ST1100 when you can buy this excellent machine.

Bought a well maintained 17 year old Kawasaki ZG1000 Concours (GTR 1000) this spring and am most impressed. Engine and tranny are still tight, no leaks any where. Feels like a fighter pilot next to my "bi-plane" 82 BMW R100. Starts instantly and soon settles into a smooth idle. For a 600lb motorcycle the handling and power is first rate. Love to climb on in the morning and head into the mountains of southern BC and northern Washington State. 500 miles later I ease back into my driveway with a sa ...- Read Guest's review (88 words)

In todays world of specialized motorcycles, the Kawasaki ZG1000 / GTR1000 is able to do many things well.
A few upgrades more than fix weaknesses noted by others. Heavy bar ends, adjust cam chain tension and synchronizing the carbs helps a great deal on buzziness. I put cartridge emulators and a progressive suspension shock to fix suspension woes(most oem parts on any bike are a compromise) 83K + and will easily get 100K out of her- Read motobrua's review (131 words)

The Kawasaki ZG1000 is an extremely comfortable load lugger that comfortably and reliably carried my wife and I the length of Britain, France and into Northern Spain over the course of a week, ferry back to the UK and all the way back to Yorkshire without a hiccup. Fast enough to pass cars when you want to and big enough to intimidate madcap drivers in Paris when you are negotiating L'Arc de Triumph roundabout. Old and proven technology so I don't need to be Bill Gates to service it. Just a ...- Read andrewnolan's review (318 words)

Comfortable steady rideplenty of luggage spaceplenty of power for touringgood wind protection from fairing. A bit heavy too many gears
I bought this Kawasaki ZG1000 6 months ago and have ridden around Ireland on it. I found that with 6 gears I was always changing up or down, but once in top and on the "open" road it was a brilliant bike to ride. I took enough clothes to be comfortable in for a week and still had space to spare.I love it.- Read brocka12's review (85 words)

Been a Gold Wing person for over 25 years this is my first Kawasaki but it won't be my last. When I wear this one out I will get a newer one just like it just for two reasons. One its reliable and two is just plain fun to ride. I have read the blogs and complaints of a buzz and its funny the only thing I noticed is the sound of a strong engine and the joy of riding the hills and winding roads of Northern WI. Funny thing though is that even though I travel the state with it I never see another Co ...- Read LinLee's review (272 words and 1 comment)

I use my bike as every day transport. I have fitted it with a top box so as to be able to lock up my gear when I get were I'm going. The bike does have a buzzing through the handle bars but I get over it after a while. I bought the bike with 1400kms on the clock and now have done 18000kms. Got 15000kms out of the rear tyre. At their price I'm very happy about that. It was one of the last ones imported onto Australia before production was stopped. As one would expect the build quality was good af ...- Read Rob Bown's review (145 words)

I bought this bike based on its price alone, it was great value, but if I'm brutally honest it was a downward spiral from then on.
Mine had 35000 miles which isn't a lot but the amount of problems that came with this model were astounding. The bike has a "well reported vibration through the bars" thats going to cost you £85 to try and fix, although it'll never go away. Another well known problem is the height of the foot pegs/seat. Again you can fix this if you throw enough money at it. ...- Read 2lippy's review (291 words and 2 comments)

The Kawasaki GTR1000 or ZG1000 in the USA Tourer is a true intercontinental ballistic bike. Capable of transporting two people + luggage vast distances in total comfort. However, all is not rosy. It is a heavy old beast, and the drive shaft can be intrusive when pressing on along bumpy roads.
The suspension wallows, and is under damped. The fairing gets brittle with age, and vibration fractures near every fastener point. Removing the fairing for maintenance is a chore. This puts up the price of ...- Read Moonbadger's review (379 words and 2 comments)
