Good Points: Quality. Value. Functionality. After all it is a Goodmans.

Bad Points: For the price it's hard to find any bad points.

General comments: I needed a radio for my wife's car and after looking at many basic radio / cassette models I decided to purchase a CD model. The first and only brand for me was Goodmans - a name steeped in I.C.E. history. Not wanting or needing every bell and whistle under the sun, I plumped for the Goodmans GCE 7107RDS and paid the sub £80 asking price. I was not disapointed.

Not being the most technically minded of people I was dreading the installation but couldn't believe how easy it was. Much easier than changing a three pin plug!

The CD has all the features that you would expect - shuffle, repeat, random play etc. together with a handy scan function which plays the first 20 seconds of each track. It's far safer than looking at the CD case during the morning rush hour before deciding on track 12!

The radio has 6 pre-set buttons which is plenty for the pop stations on the three FM options for the wife and the medium wave football commentaries on Five Live and Talk Sport for me. The display of the station name is in a distinctive blue LCD which lifts the car's overall interior appearance. I don't think she'll use the traffic news, or alternative frequency functions on her three mile journey to work but if ever I use it on a long motorway journey they'll be invaluable.

The sound quality is crisp with sharp treble and punchy bass. The bass sound is furher reinforced by a neat "loudness" function. This, coupled together with an "Equalization" mode which enhances your choice of music (classics, pop, rock etc.) provides an enjoyable sound experience. After buying this unit, I think I need to upgrade the car's original speakers but they'll keep to another day.

All in all I am very pleased with the purchase and belive that the unit provides excellent value for money and will provide many hours of on the road listerning pleasure for many miles to come. (If only the good lady wife would remember to remove the detachable front panel than I'll be even happier).

At the start I said that I choose Goodmans for their reputation. They have not let me down.
