Good Points: affordable, good looks, soft top, good handling, reliability, and of course main dealer back up!

Bad Points: Boot space! Who cares - its a convertible, your not gonna try and stick your granny in there!

General comments: If you have the cash, and you like having a soft top, why compromise, the MX-5 means you don`t have to!

I drove my girlfriends MX5 in racing green, with a full leather interior and mahogany spoked steering wheel along the embankment in London. It's a great car. It always makes me laugh that the Japanese build a classic 'British' sports car better than the British could ever do. It's reliable, and you can see the styling cues from the 1960s lotus elan very clearly. It's not a design icon for nothing, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Some things in life are just right, and the MX-5 is one of them.

Jokes aside, I have driven a Boxtster, which was nice, and own an RX-8 which is nice, but my Wifes MX-5 is more fun than either.

The strange thing is, although the MX isn't the fastest thing on wheels, and has a fairly unimpressive although willing enough engine, it's good points are so overwhelmingly good, you won't give a hoot about anything else!

As soon as you sit inside, you feel comfortable, in more way than one, bec ...

There is no real competition in this market. The MG sadly is defunct and the reliability of that marque suspect.
The Toyota is truly a toy with no real practicality.
The Lotus is an out and out track day car.
With the Mazda MX-5 you can go away for a week and carry all the luggage you truly require in the boot. If you do need more space then there is a boot rack you can add on.
Fuel consumption is dependant upon usage but for open top cruising 40mpg is achievable with the 1840ccs engine, pro ...

I bought a used 93 Mazda MX5 3 years ago, with 145,000 km on it. I now have 191,000 km and the only money I have spent besides oil changes and tune ups is a new exhaust system. I have average 35 mpg (Canadian) over the whole year. I get 25-28 in the city in the winter and up to 42 in summer. I still LOVE this car, going for sunset cruises and they are bullet-proof. Met a guy who had over 400,000 km on his, still going strong

I bought a very attractive new, Titanium grey, multi spoke 16 inch alloy wheeled beauty of a Mazda MX-5 from a dealer in May 2004. I had looked around many cars to replace my ageing Impreza and the MX 5 had the handling that I knew I would miss. It is awesome on the open road with no other cars about loads of fun. This is short lived however if you move to place where the daily trip to work involves sitting in traffic. The cabin is not cramped but you can feel a little intimidated when flanked o ...
