Good Points: Cabin staff friendly and informative

    Bad Points: Ground staff poor.

General comments: Flown twice with Excel, both times delayed 10 hr 11. Aircabin staff ran over flying hours maybe just unlucky. No more Kosmar holidays for me now as excel took them over last year, everything on cheap now.

(Aug/Sept 08) I cannot believe how awful my return flight to Crete was. The seats were fixed in a bolt upright position making it impossible to get a degree of comfort. I have been in pain ever since with a bad back and neck. It was also really cold, luckily I had my warm windcheater with me. But others were really suffering. Perhaps they intended it to be this bad, because they were do a good trade selling blankets and pillows? There were only 3 toilets for about 200 passengers and most of the ...

Flew with XL Airways to Cyprus on 29th July 2008 was one of the best flights both ways we left Luton 5 mins late the cabin crew we friendly and helpful loved the boarding music Galaxy FM. The aircraft was clean but very tiny as used to flying on a330 and a321 first time for about 5 years flying on a 737. The meals were very nice and very good value. flight back was even better we left 1 hour early they didn't have as much of a choice of meal however it was still really nice on the flight back as ...

Take out as many rows of seats as ness to make life on board liveable. I would be more than happy to have paid the extra for seats removed. But perhaps it's to late now as we won't be flying with them again.

Was not looking forward to fly with xl as a lot of the reviews were poor but what a pleasant surpirse! Have never seen such a quick check in and the flight was stress free. Thank you xl for your friendliness I will DEFINITELY fly with you again.

Based on reading other reviews was expecting a nightmare on long haul from Gatwick to Sanford. Delighted to say that legroom more than adequate despite not booking extra legroom seats. Children's meal ordered was delivered to appropriate seat and with adult meals. Cabin crew helpful and polite despite other passenger comments. Was not expecting first class service due to price paid but very good value for money. Both outward and return journeys more than acceptable bearing in mind price paid wit ...

TRIP:11th August, Manchester(MAN) - Lanzarote(ACE): We got to the airport for check-in and split up, one group to go to the ticket desk to pick up our tickets and the other waiting for the meet and greet service. We met back in the MAN T2 lay-by and waited there for a long time waiting for the meet and greet (Will NOT use that company again) which ended in us putting the car in MAN's long stay. We did then get down to check in. The queue, when we got there, was long but moved very quickly and we ...

Flight outbound from Gatwick to Sanford with XL airways was OK, we were kept well informed. We were sat on the ground in the plane at Gatwick for over 5 hours and had to travel up 5 flights of stairs to get back to the terminal which was not good for people with disabilities as there were no lifts. Managed to get to Sanford eventually everything was fine from then on.

AWFUL AIRLINE!On outbound flight (Gatwick to Sanford Orlando), the extra leg room seats were not extra leg room but infact bulk head seats. We were told that bulk head seats were classed as leg room seats, but we didn't see it on the plane! Inbound was a nightmare! When we checked in we were told that the scheduled plane was not available so we had a standby plane which was smaller and therefore only 2 out of 3 of the extra leg room seats that we booked were available to us. As well as that, our ...

Delays, ran out of hot food after only serving a few rows, luggage allowance being bang on 15 kg if you go over its £7 a kilo extra.(my advice put extra in your hand luggage they don't care about that which is really weird)!

It's a fine airline, I wouldn't expect 5 star service, because it is so cheap. But as long as you get there, in my view, it's fine.

Long haul Gatwick to Orlando Sanford with 3 young children - dreading it after reading other reviews of Excel Airways on here. Had to comment to redress balance. Personally go transatlantic at least 4 times annually with major carriers - this is NO WORSE THAN ANY OF THEM AND IS LESS THAN TWO THIRDS THE PRICE.
Leg room is slightly cramped, but rather better than some scheduled carriers on this route. No seat back TVs for kids and entertainment limited due to this (newer aircraft start Nov 2008 an ...

Don't use XL Airways. They are unbelievable. Our flight was due to leave Manchester on the 9 July 08 at 1855 but after a 28 hour delay with promises of food and drink which never materialised we left from Newcastle so we had a 5.5 day holiday instead of 7. They also said claim from our own insurance! I don't think so.

We returned from Kefalonia last night with XL Airways. We were 4 adults and 1 child travelling. They checked the child in sitting by himself. When I complained I was told they had no policy of sitting children with accompanying adults, across the aisle was adequate. I found their attitude was appauling, their customer service none existant, their staff rude. I'd think twice about travelling with this airline if you have children!

I recently flew from East Midlands to Palma with XL airways, and after reading other peoples reviews I wasn't looking forward to the flight at all.Check in went smoothly and the staff were friendly and helpful, on the way back we were not charged for over 7kg of excess luggage we had.Our outbound flight was delayed for just over half an hour as we were waiting for the co-pilot to fly up from Gatwick, the pilot however apologised to us all as we disembarked the plane at Palma. The in-flight entert ...

My wife & I (late middle age - alright almost retired!) flew to Grenada with XL with great trepidation having read the negative reviews, but with such a price difference (saving around £400), we were prepared for a bit of discomfort on a nine hour journey.
We were pleasantly surprised. Although the plane was a bit old & tatty (Boeing 767), everything worked. It took off, stayed up and landed ahead of schedule in both directions. Service was average for a charter flight, adequate food ( ...

XL airways are a good way to fly. Yes they have delays, don't all planes. I mean, yes we had a 1 hour delay while sitting on the plane but they gave us free snacks and drinks. A great way to go XL.

Appalling leg room. My son had to sit with his leg in the aisle and stand up when the trolley came past. Food dreadful and over priced. It took any pleasure out of flying
