I have 3 jack russells, and as a breed I think they're great. They're so spunky and energetic, they'll keep you entertained for hours! Be aware that they often need more exercise than you'd think - my two girls are happy just to run around the garden, but my new puppy is a lot more energetic and needs a good walk each day, or he gets destructive. I've just started agility with him, though, and he loves it! They're not aggressive - they don't mind having their toys or food taken away - although they'll snappy if you wake them up suddenly, but I think that's the same with all dogs. They won't tolerate anything they see as unfair, so pokes and prods will get you nipped fingers, but as long as you treat them with respect you won't have any problems. People say they can be aggressive with other dogs, but I haven't had many problems with that - ours get on great together, with food, toys, whatever, and though one's a bit timid with other dogs she's never attacked one. That said, cats and small animals will NOT survive in a household of jack russells. They're excellent for keeping the rats away, though, if that's what you're after. All in all, a lovely, fiesty little dog - definitely a big dog in a small package!!

We wouldn't be without a jack russell. Our 3 have been loyal, busy, affectionate, full of personality and character. 2 out of the 3 have been very sociable and friendly around other dogs, our first JR needed a lot of help with socialisation and got there in the end!
They have all been extremely good with children, and have never stolen food or chewed or damaged anything in the house.
Maybe we've been lucky, as you do hear horror stories about JRs, but I think if you accept that terriers have spe ...- Read Guest's review (244 words)

I have a 15 month old female Jack Russell Terrier, she can be a handful most of the time but she is also very loving.
She would never bite or nip, what is common from for the breed, and is very over exitable.- Read rain678's review (78 words)

I lived with one of these dogs for 3 years, and I did grow very fond of it. I started to train it. However, the owner became jealous as the Jack Russell looked to me as the pack leader, so I backed off. There was a huge lack of training after this, and she is now very temperamental and unpredictable. Sometimes, she is fantastic and loving, but other times, she will go for your hand if you go anywhere near her.
I think that as long as Jack Russell's are trained and socialised from a young age ...- Read lazzer r1's review (152 words and 2 comments)

I have 2 Jack Russell's, age 1 and 7. They require plenty of time and patience but they are worth the effort. If well trained they are great companions - faithful and protective - as well as great entertainment - comical and cute. They are fearless and natural hunters, will play well with children and other animals but will not put up with being poked or manhandled.- Read SchemaMstr's review (80 words)
