“Watch out for the hidden Extras”

We purchased CDW insurance cover as recomended from Nova for £37.50 which was not accepted by the car hire company Locauto in Naples. We had to buy more CDW for €90 bringing what had been a reasonably priced deal to become very expensive at £50 a day. The woman on the desk at Locauto was rude and dismissive. Our whole Nova experience was unsatisfying. We will not use them again nor recommend them. (read more)

“Can not call it smooth operation”

When we arrived at our holiday destination for next 2 weeks at 9 P. M. i had to call for the shuttle bus as the rental location was about 12 kilometers from airport, not 7 as advertised. The guy on the phone said he has no booking with my name. There was contact details of Nova, my broker on the voucher so no chance to call. However, I was surprised that I was neither supplied with nor offered for purchase a book such as the AA guide to Ireland. I booked a compact Automatic for our drive through Austria. I colected the car from Innsbruck and dropped in Vienna. The directions to the depot in Vienna where easy to follow I highly recommend taking or hiring a GPS (save your relationship) Also check the car over BEFORE you leave. I had a few scratches on my car but, luckly there was no major problem Nova were well cheaper than any other company and the car was as requested. Just what you need on holiday. No surprises. I booked the car online and was offered a good price for 5 days in Ireland. The car had some minor issues, but they were the responsibility of Budget, not Nova. However, one thing I have unclear and I would appreciate an answer on it. I remember (maybe incorrectly), that when booking I read that the fee was also including the M50 toll and that I didn't have to pay anything for it. However, when collecting the car at the Budget counter I was told it it not so and I did have to pay it myself.... (read more)

Very friendly and welcoming service from the young man at the desk then equally friendly service from the young lady at the pickup point which is located mere steps away from the arrivals door. The car was a Hyundai i30 Bluedrive. We were most impressed by this car. As well as being immaculately clean we were further impressed by its completely meagre appetite for diesel. I would buy one of these now!!! There is nothing I can fault this car hire on at all. (read more)

I would like to make an official complaint and have my booking fee refunded in FULL. I used your service to book a car rental for my recent trip to South Africa. When I arrived at the selected company, ‘First Car South Africa’ after a very long flight, the company demanded a further R11000 from me as a deposit. We came across Nova while searching the internet for a car rental company in South Africa and they provided not only the best prices, but also tailored the deal to our requirements. We paid a tiny deposit to secure the car, the balance paid at the rental agency. The rental agency was ready for us on arrival, the car was clean and nearly brand new. Car was new and ready for service. Staff was friendly and made things easy. Only a little fault: the car was returned with the tank not filled and I was charged 20 RM for the filling up of the tank (reasonable price),...no receipt, no mention of this expenditure in the final bill or in the final statement (should be different). Process of booking - Good/clear and simple On arrival - Prompt pick up/clean vehicle provided and explanation given of payment etc. Was surprised that you pay for the full tank of petrol and return it empty. I prefer the standard fill up what you use method. Be aware if you pay for childrens car seats - The quality is poor and I was charged £70 for dirty (stored in the side room of a barn) cheap seats that Halfords now refuse to fit on safety grounds. On arrival at Cape Town airport, the booking was made but at the wrong rates and KM allowances. This in turn affected the deposit required etc which luckily I had proof of the payment with me and the documents of the choices I had selected. Europcar was great but had to phone the head office to have the system correct accordingly which would take 24 hours to reset. Recently hired a Citroen C1 from the Avignon TGV office. Both the car and the friendly efficient service we received were excellent. Although our French is pretty good the two staff members we dealt with spoke perfect English which simplified the admin process considerably. We'd certainly use Nova again. (read more)

I've found the Nova service very good, and reasonable. But a couple of the rental companies they use are not too great! Enterprise: wonderful service, very pleasant people working at all places I've used. Choice of cars, usually. Budget: Outrageously high block on credit card just in case of damage, rude staff, no choice of cars, and the car I had was rattly Green Motion: car ok, but horrible people Nova have the power to influence these things! Again, excellent service from Budget at Dublin Airport. Rented twice in 2 weeks and my only criticism was on May 1st - when it didn't go all so according to plan. Booked a car through Nova (again) for collection at Dusseldorf- collected from the Dollar/Thrifty site, couldnt have been easier. My only criticism was I probably chose a higher catagory than I needed, because the price was competative, but that was my fault not theirs. I like the fact that you can book CDW insurance separate, and whilst still relatively expensive, it does give peice of mind. (read more)

We followed all instructions to find the Red spot car hire centre.....when we arrived we walked with all our bags from one terminal to the next (as advised on booking form) only to find the red spot centre unattended. So we trudged all the way back until we found another redspot centre. I have used Nova several times. The prices are excellent, and normally there are no surprises. This time we picked up in Paris city and returned to Paris CDG. Citer/Enterprise wanted to charge a one-way dropoff. After an argument we prevailed, but it wasn't easy and makes the travel experience more difficult. I will use Nova again, but I recommend customers get real clear about these charges. (read more)

I assumed this was taken into account when I received my final price however when I collected the car at KNOCK in Ireland I was informed I needed to pay an additional €75 for dropping the car at Dublin. We recently used Nova for an Ireland trip. We will definitely try to avoid using Nova in the future. This time the vehicle was with Alamo which we found out later was still part of the Europcar group. Europcar is a no no where we are concerned. We have had enourmous problems using Europcar in different countries and will not use them again. Nova emailed me and gave me a 'total rental cost'. When i arrived at the counter i had to pay an 3 times the amount they emailed me!! I was shocked that they could quote 'Total rental Cost' and it was three times more!!! It is somewhat ironic that the best car hire deal we could obtain on Phuket was by using Nova Car Hire in the UK. Even when we tried to extend our rental agreement with the Thai rental company wwith which they placed the contract, they could not or would not match the price that Nova had secured. So if you are hiring a car in Phuket I would strongly recommend Nova as the best value for money. (read more)

I have used Nova in the past quite frequently. This time having hired a car I had hoped for the same or better service. When I arrived at my destination airport, my hire car was at another airport. So while more paperwork was sorted out, I had to wait with my 3 year old who was already tired and grumpy. The original hire was quoted at £33. It ended up costing £87. Nova were fine, even helpful, in preparing the booking,but Europcar were terrible. Hidden charges - like insurance for the clutch itself(!) and a charge to go into Northern Ireland that Nova had said would be included - doubled the price of the car hire. Europcar also lied, saying the full tank of petrol was at a discounted price, but doing the math revealed it was in fact at a massive markup. Had a terrible start to our holiday in Corsica. Spent nearly two hours in Ajaccio waiting to pick up our rental car from Europcar. Their service was awfully slow. The return was better. Saw a long line of people waiting to pick their car up on that day too. Dread to think what it would be like in high season. The car that we finally got was very nice. Clean and tidy and worked fine. Nice holiday. Only spoiled by the poor service by Europcar. (read more)
