My Father bought me a 48g 9ct gold bracelet for my 40th birthday, 5 years ago, also he bought me a 48g 9ct gold chain necklace the same year for my Christmas present.. Since money is a little tight at the moment I went to sell them, only to be told that the acid test isn't clear enough therefore no risk would be taken in buying the gold from me. I know what he paid for these items and I am very upset with the obvious floor in the quality of the gold, they are stamped 925 9 ct, it would... (read more)

I purchased Elizabeth Duke jewellery cleaner from Argos about 3yrs. I use it on all my jewellery and it is fantastic. It comes in a tub and is liquid with a little tray to place your jewellery on. It is so easy to use and does a great job. I would recommend it to anyone. (read more)

3 different 9 crt white gold rings (still in catalogue) i bought from Elizabeth Duke at Argos for my wife for Christmas, they are starting to go yellow so we took them back to the shop only to be told that it is NORMAL for WHITE GOLD to turn YELLOW if you wear it when washing up as detergent is the cause and therefore they were not going to do anything about it. Gold is yellow then it is mixed with other metals to try and make it as white as possible but it is inpossible to make it a true white.it is then rodium plated to give it its shiney white finish witch as any plating will wear off how quick depends on the wearer. This is quite normal and is the same at any jewellers as gold is yellow and and not white.

From Elizabeth Duke at Argos my boyfriend bought me a white gold bangle with double hearts that did up with a clasp, the clasp broke-luckily we got cover so they sorted it and we got it back 2-3 weeks later, however, a month or so again the clasp broke again, took it back and they refused to fix it as we didn't have the cover-they had kept it from before. Staff member we dealt with seemed a bit rude to us, i said that it was kept the last time it broke, i had the receipt that said it was... (read more)

I needed a blue ring which was cheap and looked nice. I preferred Topaz. The staff at Argos were friendly, and measured my finger quickly and accurately. The ring was a 9ct gold ring with a Topaz heart, and it was amazing value for money, as it was just £18.79. When I bought it, it needed a polish, but when it was polished up it looks gorgeous! It looks pretty, and under 10x magnification it has very few inclusions. The gold is not the best quality, but it could be buffered up a bit to make... (read more)

I got a 3oz diamond cut gold bracelet at Elizabeth Duke at Argos, which at the time was a bargain. I've had it 17 months and it's had a new clasp already cause it snapped and now the clasp had broken again but completely snapped. I wouldn't buy from Argos cause the gold is not good. In my eyes, gold shouldn't break and not when you pay 550 pound for it! (read more)

The earrings can look good in the Elizabeth Duke at Argos catalogue, but they look awful when someone is wearing them! My girlfriends lobes went green. The jewellery is still wicked value for money though. (read more)

I found if an item wasn't in one Elizabeth Duke at Argos store, they would reserve it for you in the other store. Staff were friendly and service was quick. (read more)

I purchased a 1/2 Oz silver chain and a sovereign ring with cubic zirconium down the side from Elizabeth Duke at Argos. I am greatly unhappy with this purchase and wish I had gone to a real jewellery place, such as H Samuels or Warren James. As for the 1/2 Oz silver chain it wasn't the best value of silver I had ever bought, it's thin and looks like steel. The review I read when I came across this web page, was absolutely useless, listen to me, it's cheap, tacky and completely... (read more)

As my review was 'useless', I would just like to add that the ring I mentioned in my review was very expensive- over £300 in fact. Hence the quality was very good, as that is what you pay for. If you are only paying £12 for a silver chain I wouldn't expect the quality to be very good anyway! If you thought the jewellery was rubbish quality, why did you a) purchase it in the first place, as in Elizabeth Duke you can view jewellery before you purchase, and b) why didn't you take it back for a refund or exchange if you werent happy with the quality??

Rastaking, there are a handful of main suppliers in the UK jewellery industry.
The 'proper' jewellery you claim is sold elsewhere comes from the same suppliers that Argos use!

The range of jewellery is really different and very reasonably priced. I have bought lots of different jewellery at different prices from here and not had any problems.
The only problem I've had is that I ordered a ring last December and was told it would take 4 weeks maximum. 7 weeks later it still hadn't arrived. So we went back in and they said they'd forgotten to order it. We were told it would take another 6 weeks. We didn't actually get the ring until MARCH 04 even though I'd ordered...

this is very true.....this is swaying me to have my engagment ring yellow gold as my white gold has turn slightly yellow over the years.if you want your white gold to last you have to treat it with such care but if like me want to wear day in day out stick to yellow gold!
i have brought argos gold sevral time and have never had no problems.....looking at a ring at present.
