I started using hotpop around 2005 (Bronze level - $9.99/yr)...today I noticed I'm still being billed through Paypal, even tho I cancelled the automatic payments around 2010. Tried to access their website, it no longer exists. Guess that is fortunate cause that way, no one else can get ripped off by these shysters....hell, you can't even sign up for it!! Yay!!!

As below - after sometime with service, account can't login and setup - just get re-directed to Paypal site.
Was going to try paying for Bronze just to get in, and see if anyone was still sending e-mail to me, but read other's comments as to how they just take your payment and don't give anything in return...kudos to those who warned us...

They always were a very basic, but rather slow email service. I never had any problems with spam. Nothing shiny or glitzy, but then all I wanted was my email delivered to my email program (Pegasus Mail, probably the best emailer in the world (tm)).
No access to email for ages, and the only bit of the website that still seems to work is the payments bit!! They have had their down times before, but nothing as long as this.
Write them off, gone, dead, and buried. They are an ex-email service (just like a certain parrot!)

I stopped to receive my email since April 2010. Mail program gets AUTH error during connection or connection is broken by the POP3 server. On web site I can not do anything except choosing account level with monthly or annual fee. I thought the payment will help me and chose Bronze level for a month. After payment by PayPal I was redirected to the first page with levels again for choosing. So, my payments (I stupidly made it twice) have been lost.
I warn you against using this service. Avoid it. Unfortunatelly, I have a lot of registrations and subscriptions on my hotpop email address.

Thought I would write a quick update on the state of play with hotpop.com. It seems the free service is no more and the site is DEAD.
Users can log on to the site with their passwords but are then directed to a page offering premium services. I signed up for the bronze - the cheapest package they offer, thinking this would get me past the splash screen and give me pop3 access again, it didn't.
To date: My pop3 service remains dead, the site is practically unusable. Be warned though, the premium services page is still taking peoples money! Signing up for premium will get you NOTHING. It will not give you access to your account. Please don't waste your time & money.
In conclusion: Site and service seem abandoned. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I used a free account for many years and service was adequate. Without warning my "free" account stopped accepting my log in about a month ago. The website gave no information that free email was being stopped. Today the website is totally unavailable.
The paid packages did not look good value. If you want free email, look elsewhere

i would never recommend this to a friend or even to anyone.
3 months ago i can still receive mails via outlook but
could never send mails since last year. lately, when i try
to log in on my acct on the site, i'm redirected to their
paysite. i have no other choice but to signup just
so i could retrieve my mails. well, i thought it was a smart
idea, but i was robbed with $9.99 :/
i sent an email to all email adds provided at their contact us
several times re my concern, and just like other posters
here, i never received any reply from them.
i wonder how i can request for a refund?.....

I have a hotpop account and I cannot receive any email to it. It simply does not work since a very long time ago (maybe half a year since I noticed). Support does not respond any message. Everyone should avoid this so-called email service! My adsense and many other accounts were associated with this email address, now I can't access any of them. If you are wise enough, run away from hotpop while there are many other great free pop3 email providers!

Very poor service, Mail keeps getting lost, SMTP server down for over a year. Supportdept. never responds, Sales neither. Problems are never solved other than by incident. Over all no recommendation for this "service". If you take the paid version you do get them same poor service, no support and a regular out of order provider.
Do never pay these people for their "services" because they do not deliver.

Hotpop seems to have been abandoned by its owner. I raised a support ticket with them on 26th January 2010 and it is still at status 'Waiting for HotPOP
'. The automated emailer that acknowledges the support request states that the 'initial response time is typically 24 to 72 hours'. My problem related to the fact the email sent to my HotPop email address was not being forwarded to my current email provider. It still isn't. Don't bother with this service, there is no service, it doesn't work any-more and there is no response from support. Had to give 1-star because there is no option for 0 stars.

I've had a free hotpop.com email address for a while and it has randomly stopped working for long periods at times. For the last year I have been trying to close my account with no success. To close your account you must enter the confirmation code generated in those little boxes designed to prove you aren't a bot. Well, the box never has a confirmation code in it when i have tried, all it ever says is "unavailable". Support tickets for help with this issue have been completely ignored.

You don't get what you don't pay for. Well with free email you usually do, but not with HotPop. Maybe changing the name to mailstop.com would be a better choice.
No shirt, no shoes, no service.

Offline many days in a row, big delay on mail sending and forwarding, I believe more and more spam (not sure).
I'm about to change my anonym freemailer and leave the hotpop.com platform for ever! I do not recommend Hot POP.com

I am not happy with the Hot POP service I have experienced, Support does has not yet responded to remarks, Service down for days on a regular basis.
I personally feel I have received no support.. in my experience the service has been down for long time and the mail delayed for days.
It's free but not reliable better look for an alternative service.

Off line a lot in my experience. Setting up an account and logging back in can be a pain for me. I don't like the userface design. It doesn't tell me I have to have a capital letter when you do the password. So it resets and tells me. So I put a capital letter. Then it tells me I don't have a number.. as required. So then again you go, round and round. Longest set up in my experience.. and now 1 year later, it is not working, which means I can't get password reset.

Often doesn't work for me personally. Mail delayed for weeks in my experience. As far as I am aware I do not see enough responses to complaints yet. Website barely works at all for me personally. Forwarding is hit and miss as far as I am concerned. Therefore I do nopt recommend HOT POP.com

I get so much spam that the service is basically useless. I do not recommend Hot POP email address site.

No such thing as a free lunch? Absolutely! Don't sign up with them unless you want Spam.

It's fun that there is a free pop mail service (I only tried the free Hotpop service), but considering that it doesn't really work too well, a free Hotpop account is mostly just a 'novelty' e-mail and is not for any serious use.

Considering it's free I use my hotpop account for all those places I don't want to have my real email address.
However, the service really is terrible and pretty unreliable.
If you plan to use this email for authorizing accounts (i.e. If you sign up for a forum or something similar where they send you an email and ask you click the link to activate your account) you will want to consider alternative email companies unless you don't mind waiting a day or so to receive your email.
Tech support from Hotpop is Zero. There is none. They do offer a service where you can email any questions to their tech support guys, but they never ever respond. (I've had an email in a queue now for 3 years and still no response)

I totally recommend Rock.Com for a secondary account. They always get any email I send it and it sounds cool when you give out your address. There is a bit of spam that comes with it but that's why I use it as a secondary account. The only negative is the Castle Media pop under adds when you go to log into your account.
