I've had a free hotpop.com email address for a while and it has randomly stopped working for long periods at times. For the last year I have been trying to close my account with no success. To close your account you must enter the confirmation code generated in those little boxes designed to prove you aren't a bot. Well, the box never has a confirmation code in it when i have tried, all it ever says is "unavailable". Support tickets for help with this issue have been completely ignored.

You don't get what you don't pay for. Well with free email you usually do, but not with HotPop. Maybe changing the name to mailstop.com would be a better choice.
No shirt, no shoes, no service.- Read Guest's review (45 words)

Offline many days in a row, big delay on mail sending and forwarding, I believe more and more spam (not sure).
I'm about to change my anonym freemailer and leave the hotpop.com platform for ever! I do not recommend Hot POP.com- Read Guest's review (46 words)

I am not happy with the Hot POP service I have experienced, Support does has not yet responded to remarks, Service down for days on a regular basis.
I personally feel I have received no support.. in my experience the service has been down for long time and the mail delayed for days.
It's free but not reliable better look for an alternative service.- Read gerto's review (70 words)

Off line a lot in my experience. Setting up an account and logging back in can be a pain for me. I don't like the userface design. It doesn't tell me I have to have a capital letter when you do the password. So it resets and tells me. So I put a capital letter. Then it tells me I don't have a number.. as required. So then again you go, round and round. Longest set up in my experience.. and now 1 year later, it is not working, which means I can't get password reset.- Read Guest's review (97 words)

Often doesn't work for me personally. Mail delayed for weeks in my experience. As far as I am aware I do not see enough responses to complaints yet. Website barely works at all for me personally. Forwarding is hit and miss as far as I am concerned. Therefore I do nopt recommend HOT POP.com- Read Guest's review (59 words)

It's fun that there is a free pop mail service (I only tried the free Hotpop service), but considering that it doesn't really work too well, a free Hotpop account is mostly just a 'novelty' e-mail and is not for any serious use.- Read Guest's review (80 words)

Considering it's free I use my hotpop account for all those places I don't want to have my real email address.
However, the service really is terrible and pretty unreliable.
If you plan to use this email for authorizing accounts (i.e. If you sign up for a forum or something similar where they send you an email and ask you click the link to activate your account) you will want to consider alternative email companies unless you don't mind waiting a day or so to receive your email.

The FREE service they provide is useless, unless you enjoy 40 ads per hour generated because of the FREE service. They are unresponsive to problems with the paid service. Once HotPOP got my money, I couldn't get them to answer any of my support questions.
I paid 19.99 for an email service that I cannot use. HotPOP doesn't reply to my support emails or certified US mail.- Read alhanusch's review (65 words)

I've been using the HotPOP email service for several years, since Yahoo started charging for their POP email service.
I had a free account at first, then I upgraded to a paying account to handle attachments. I authorized them to charge my Paypal account annually, as long as I had the paid service. I found out my ISP had POP service for no extra charge, so I tried to downgrade my account back to the free one. That was two years ago, and they just charged me for another year last month. I can't ...- Read buddehoff's review (180 words)

I am trying to set up my HotPOP account with Thunderbird still. Of course, HotPOP doesn't have a guide for Thunderbird, just Outlook and Mozilla...but anyway, I can get mail, but I can't send it. This is what HotPOP says for configuring the SMTP server: "*HotPOP's outgoing (SMTP) mail server requires authentication. The username and password are the same as the POP Server and website. Do not select "secure" password authentication." What the heck do they mean by "the POP server and website"?! Th ...- Read Subbie556's review (367 words)

I have had my HotPOP (www.hotpot.com/index.jsp) for two years and they have been pretty reliable for a free service. But I don't know much about there company and I fear they may sell my information to other companies. I just wish I could get someone else to use there service so I could compare.- Read sofakingfree's review (84 words)

I took out an email account with hotpop.com in 2003, they charged me twice and it took a a good while to get a refund, I was beginning to think they were ignoring me.
The service was so bad...incredibly slow mail server and often it didn't respond, that I cancelled the account and used a different service.
This year ( a year after I cancelled my account with them) they took another years subscription from my paypal account without notifying me it was about to be deducted! Paypal told me when H ...- Read FrankiesLynne's review (202 words)
