Staffordshire Bull Terriers are everything I want from a dog. From the age of 18 I have been working with dogs, whether that be as a dog walker, trainer or volunteering at rescue centres. Especially with my work in rescue, I have come into contact with a lot of Staffies...I quickly came to the conclusion that they are an amazing breed! :) Our first dog, who we adopted because our landlord said no bull breeds, was a Collie cross. He is insanely high energy and intelligent, but is definitely not an easy dog. We adopted him at under a year old and he came to us with issues including separation anxiety, resource guarding, over-excitement with other dogs and fear aggression with strangers. Almost three years ago we rescued a Staffy puppy. She had been purchased from a pet shop to breed with the "owners'" adult dog. They didn't get on, so she was left to live outside in winter with no shelter. We heard about her and brought her home. She is a wonderful, wonderful dog. She is amazingly intelligent (picks things up far faster than our other dog), incredibly loving towards us and adores everybody and everything! She knows over thirty tricks and she has NEVER shown any aggression. Even though she has been attacked several times by other dogs (they were all off lead and their owners had no control over them), she has never so much as growled. Can Staffies be dog aggressive? Sure, but so can any dog. Most Staffies are stable, affectionate, loyal and fun-loving dogs.

Hi I have a 10 week old staffy pup but recently iv noticed her ear sitting funny just the one ear it seems to be getting worse can anyone help me here one ear sits perfect but her other ear flops over her face

I have a staffy. I've grown up with all different kinds of dogs and he is by far the loveliest of them all. He's so loving and cuddley and he can't bear to upset anyone. I'm so fed up of all the bad reviews in the press and the stories of children being attacked. The press jump on these stories but they don't bother with the ones where a Labrador or a spaniel bites someone. People cross the road to avoid mine which is a crying shame because he's nearly breaking his neck to meet everyone. This breed needs some long awaited good publicity. If your looking for a little dog that couldn't love you more, this is the breed for you. They are often stolen from people's gardens because they love people so much and aren't good guard dogs. My little jerry only ever barks at his football. He'd be too busy wagging his tale and licking any burglar to bark.

my male staffy is 2 next month, they are a very very friendly breed dont listen to all that rubbish people talk in the papers, news. Unless you have had a staffy you cant really comment but i promise anyone who is thinking of buying 1 you wont regret it They will sit on your feet , if they are not on the sofa next to you, they will lick you to death, love walks, pulling and just playing constantly. Mine alerts me if someone is walking past in the night, he shares the house with 2 teacup chihuahuas, and the only trouble is when he bounces, he doesnt realise they are there so might land on them. No aggressive behaviour- just be careful when they are in play mood and they latch forward to grab the toy-stick of you - training is very useful instead of spending half theday trying to get a stick from the park out their mouth :)

i have two staffies , lola she is 6 and neo he is 4 .WHERE do i start , loyal , loving , friendly breed , if they are treated that way .MY mum has dislike dogs from a very early age as she was attacked by one when she was very young , she comes in to my flat with my two no problem at all they are all over her licking , muzzling her , they same with with my neices two young kids age 3 and 4 they play with them on the floor and even falling asleep with them . yes they do have a downside like any other breed , and thats the owners who take on they are the ones that have a staffie as a trophy dog , in a harness looking all tough ane menancing , that is the issue people just thinking it always the staffies fault , years ago it was the doberman , then the german shepherd , then the rotwelier were classed as devil dogs , any dog can be a devil dog any dog can bite and mane . so please understand this breed because they are such sweeties .

Myself and partner have lots of experience with Staffies. We are both dog walkers and have worked at three different animal rescue centers, where the majority of dogs were Staffies or Staffy crosses. These dogs do not deserve the negative press they so often get in the media, they are a fantastic breed, much over-looked, often bought by the wrong people for the wrong reasons and abused then abandoned. Yes, Staffies can be aggressive with other dogs - but so can other breed!! They can just as easily be brought up well socialised and love to play with their canine pals! Even aggressive Staffies can be counter conditioned to be less fearful of other dogs, people or whatever else they don't like. A highly intelligent breed, with positive reinforcement / reward based training they excel. We recently rescued a 10 week old puppy (now 14 weeks) and she is fantastic. With clicker training she now knows into her crate, out of her crate, sit, wait, drop it, leave it and stand on her back legs! She is also fully housetrained and just fantastic with our 3 year old rescue dog, a Springer x Collie. He is so gentle with her too! :) Yes, she looks like a devil dog when they play (snarling, lips back, biting etc) but it is just play, and many puppies play like this! She adores strangers and other dogs, already has recall when off-lead providing there are no distractions in the field, and will be starting training classes next week :)

I have a 3 year old blue Staff, he is a fantastic dog, obedient, loving and very friendly, just recently he has become afraid of his bed, he will not go in it and just stands around with his tail between his legs looking scared, I have not got a clue why this is happening, does any one else have a simular story .

There is no better,more loyal magnificent dog then the Staffordshire bull terrier or the American pit bull Terrier which are the same breed...just AKC or UKC registered

I'm 28 and we have had staffies in my family all of my life. My parents have 7 children and are foster carers so the personality of a dog has always been important. As you can imagine in our house there were LOTS of children of all ages, pulling, prodding, jumping on and generally 'roughing up' our staffies and NEVER have we had a dog bite, scratch or even look menacingly at a child or anyone. They really are wonderful pets, we've had 5 altogether and have had them from puppies right up until old age. They willingly just become a big part of the family and they enjoy feeling like 'one of us' I must say they are VRY engergetic up until about 3 years and they do require 'tough love' in the beginning as they will, as pups, try to stamp their mark on the family and want to be the pack leader. In the beginning this might seem cute or funny but if you let them get away with it as pups, it will be very difficult to get them out of it when older. Things like jumping up at people and licking faces and getting on furnature MUST be discouraged at a young age as they are stubborn little so n so's. I treally get angry about the press tcouverage that Staffies get. It really isn't them that are evil, it's the type of people that get them that make them like that becasue, don't get me wrong, they can fight and don't really feel pain, but I have NEVER come across a badly behaved staff. To sum them up-- BRILLIANT with children and fitting into the family in genral always want to please their owners. genrally no health probles, JUST BEAUTIFUL PETS. I obviously do not live with nmy family now and will be getting a dog next year as I am applying to be a foster carer myself and a staffy is going to be the dog for me. CAN'T WAIT (this is the first review type thing I have ever written on the net I just want people to know the stories in the papers are not the be all and end all for this breed ) xx
