    Good Points: Location
    Friendly staff
    Air conditioning in rooms
    Gardens

    Bad Points: Too many chavs
    Not enough sun beds
    Pools far too busy

General comments: I first visited Puerto del Sol back in 2004, and have since been back in 2005 and again in 2007.
The first two times I visited, I had no complaints about the place at all - we had an amazing time, and I could honestly say that everything was pretty much perfect.
However, at some point between 2005 and 2007, they decided to go down the route of catering for the all inclusive market, and they are simply not geared up for it. We were self-catering, but we noticed that the quality of the food and the service in the poolside snack bar had deteriorated somewhat - so much so that most lunchtimes we headed down to Churchill's, which I can highly recommend.
However, I would not lay the blame for this deterioration entirely at the hands of the owners. Some of the British people we saw there were behaving in a disgusting manner - throwing food all over the floor and leaving it, sending their children into the snack bar to get food just because they were all-inclusive even though they had no intention of eating it, and so on. Imagine the worst examples of Brits abroad you can think of, and you'll have some of the clientele from Puerto del Sol last summer. It was like chav central.
The other disappointment last summer was that the pub was closed. We'd always enjoyed going in there of an evening - it's air conditioned and has a stunning view out over the marina, but despite being advertised in our welcome pack, it was closed for the entire fortnight.
The staff in the snack bar weren't the friendliest, but to be honest I didn't blame them that much, with some of what they were having to put up with. The staff elsewhere were excellent, though, especially the old boy behind reception on the night we arrived (very late thanks to the inefficiency of Span Air and Mallorca's baggage handlers), who gave us a free (and very welcome) bottle of mineral water each.
The apartment was lovely, with air conditioning in the living room and the bathroom, an with a balcony that looked out over the gardens.
The gardens themselves are really beautiful, and are home to various types of birds and also bats, which I encountered most mornings when I got up to put the towels out. Yes, I am afraid that I succumbed to that most British of traditions and put out my towels at stupid o'clock each morning. In my defense, I had no choice. It was either do that, or have no lounger for the entire day. Don't berate me too much, though. Some people put theirs out the night before and left them there overnight. As for the pools themselves - well, if you were planning on taking a swim, forget it. Each pool was chock full of inflatables with chavlets on them, and the only time I ventured into the water was for a quick dip to cool off.
The apartments are located just outside of the town, so if you're looking for somewhere vibrant, it won't be the right place for you. However, if you like to spend your evenings eating great food and watching the world go by, it's ideally situated. The restaurants around the marina are second to none - particular favourites were Blanco y Negro, Acuarius, one around the far side of the harbour which is owned by a guy who used to own The Melting Harbour next to Churchills, and one over the Puerto Del Sol side with green covered chairs and a waiter who looks like Leonard Rossiter (sorry, can't remember its name, but if you see the waiter, you'll know you're in the right place).
All in all, we did have a good holiday in 2007, but we won't be joining the hordes of chavs there in 2008 and are instead being holiday snobs and renting a private apartment.
One final word of warning to those heading off to Mallorca this summer... Beware the airport. You may have to wait up to two hours for your cases to arrive, and there is an extremely fierce security guard just outside the arrivals hall. My advice is to make sure you have plenty of water when you land, take little (if no) notice of the monitor which tells you which carousel your luggage will be on, and - above all - be patient...

We gave the puerto del sol a chance, and were not disappointed, its a nice hotel. The rooms are big with all amenities - even microwave , they cater for you all day, and the food is fine. We are not chip eaters, or picky ...but it was fine , its an all inclusive ..its never that great. We were there the last week of the season left october 30th. so it was on its run down, but even so there was entertainment, they did their best, my 4yr old son loved it. The drinks were pretty dire, noticed some ...

We had a fantastic holiday had, by all!
Firstly I would like to explain a little about us so you feel you are
getting an honest opinion and who from as before we left after reading
some of these reviews I was dreading going but most of the bad stuff mentioned is totally unfounded in my opinion.
We are mid 30's with one 2 year old son, we are both working professionals, my husband within the finance world and myself in HR. We live on the South Coast of England in a detached home, eat out on a ...

We stayed at the Puerto Del Sol Aparthotel. Our apartment was big, clean and had all the facilities you would expect from a self catering apartment, including a fridge, microwave, hob and kettle. It was a real bonus to have these facilities when you are all-inclusive especially when you have children as you are able to store & prepare your own food if you find that they won't eat the offerings in the dining room!

The pool areas, of which there are 3, were well maintained and there were plenty ...

My partner and I paid £250 per person to stay at the Puerto Del Sol for 7 nights. We had a fantastic time! The staff were amazing and very friendly, the bar staff were always smiling, some nights they got up on stage and joined in with the entertainment team.

The rooms were clean and even though we were all inclusive we had a fridge, toaster, kettle and hob, which came in handy. Our room was cleaned every other day and the hotel itself was clean and well maintained.

    The food was not ...

Having often chosen to travel all inclusive I can honestly say that this was the poorest quality and choice of food I have ever come across. Children were not catered for at all.

I made a decision to remove myself from the hotel at every possible opportunity and thus did not reap the benefits of the all inclusive package I had purchased.

My honest advice would be to steer clear of this hotel and I would even go as far as to say that even if you have booked this CANCEL it NOW. We did find so ...

We had a great 10 days at the Puerto Del Sol Aparthotel in Cala D'or. We went self catering, and as such, we can not complain one bit about the food, as we chose our own venues and what we ate! Managed to keep two adults, two picky teenagers and a 6 year old who eats like a sparrow, all sufficiently well fed. All inclusive people we met did complain about the food, but they kept eating it; after all it had been paid for! I can never understand why people on all inclusive expect to get top qualit ...

It was very busy around the main pool at the Puerto Del Sol Aparthotel in Cala D Or, but we used the pool next to the dining room, which was a lot quieter. They could have done with having better entertainment for the teenage children and adults, but on the whole it was a great family holiday!

The selection of food was very good, and there was something for everyone. breakfast was delicious!

The apartments were clean and spacious, and most of the staff were friendly. Cala D Or itself was b ...

We would definitely not go back to the Puerto Del Sol Apartments, but Cala D'or was great, and we will stay in the town next time.

We had a view of a building site.

We only had the towels changed twice in a week, and the shower was useless.

My son who is 3 has a problem sleeping alone, and more so when we are on holiday. As there were only 2 beds in the bedroom I asked reception if another bed could be put in the room, and I was told no, so as you can guess, 3 of us were in 2 beds, and ...

We have just enjoyed a lovely week at the Puerto Del Sol Aparthotel in Cal D Or, and we were really impressed with the layout of the hotel.

The staff where really nice, especially the gentleman on the desk. He was really friendly.

The food was typical Spanish all inclusive, but I feel peoples own greed would spoil it, and having everything piled high and covered in chips is not going to taste of anything is it?

I would highly recommend the hotel.

We all had a really nice time in Cala D Or, and we would go back again. I would like to see a change in the location of the kids disco and the evening entertainment at the Puerto Del Sol Aparthotel, as it was indoors and it was in quite a small room. It would be nice if it could be outdoors, as it also got very smoky in there.

None of the bad points made any real difference to the enjoyment of our holiday.

The shopping centre is quite a walk away from the Puerto Del Sol Apartments in Cala D Or, but taxis are reasonable, although it would be better to hire a car.

The Puerto Del Sol Aparthotel in Cala D'Or was awful. Cala D'or and the Marina were very nice, but Puerto Del Sol is very poor in my opinion. I would rather go to Basra.

We loved the accommodation at the Puerto Del Sol Aparthotel in Cala D Or. The food and the entertainment were also great, although something outside in the evening would have been nice, and if I thought you could now eat outside at the poolside snack bar as part of the all inclusive deal, I would definitely go back there with my family. In fact I have tried to book, but I have been told there are no rooms available for 5 people in August 2006.

All in all it was a great holiday at the Puerto Del Sol Aparthotel in Majorca. We have three children and they had the time of their lives. We were a bit sceptical taking them on a package holiday because we were worried they would get bored, but after this we wouldn't worry about taking them away again.

The entertainment team were brilliant, and the kids were involved in the shows of an evening, and they had a mini disco every night. The apartments were self catering, so even though the foo ...

The surrounding area of the Puerto Del Sol apartments is closed in by the marina where the other half have their boats; it's worth a look in case you win the lottery. There are a few bars and cafe's but little over priced. The other side of the apartments is closed in by the gardens with the usual array of palm trees, there is a shop close by but again this is also a bit pricey.
A little tip for mother's, make sure you take enough nappies for kids as these are about 14 euros for 20.
