I took my family of 2 adults, and two young teenagers to Vilamendhoo at Xmas. We had been two years previously. The reason we came back is because of the nataural beauty, very good value for money, and the service.
If you want fancy waiters, and luxury villas, this is not the island for you. It is a basic beach holiday, but the staff genuinely want you to have a really good time. You can be as private as you want, or as socialable as you want.Rooms are very clean, but basic, but who spends time in their room anyway? Food is ok. Lobster dinners on the beach on superb, under candlight.
Snorkelling is beautiful, plenty of rays, and fish, ans baby reef sharks.
This is the place to chill, listen to your own music, read a book, or make friends with others. If you are wanting a more active holiday, i.e windsurfing, jet skis, this is not the place.

Good centre although island is small, service good and very attentive. Dive centre a little disorganised Dhoni's (boats) quite old. Recommended - had a great time. House reef is good. A very friendly place where you can't avoid making new friends!

Vilamendhoo is one of the older resorts in the Maldives and is showing signs of this. It is in need of updating and modernisation. The bungalow interiors are clean but tired looking. The public areas are very dated and the chair covers are threadbare.

We visited here Feb 08 for 2 weeks and would definitely return, we had a fantastic 2 weeks. A very friendly island, staff are fantastic, rooms are clean and food is gorgeous. You will not find better sea life anywhere in the Maldives which is just off the beach. My only negative points would be that the rooms would benefit from a refurb, and the restaurant is smokey, so if they made it non smoking it would be great.

We stayed at Vilamendhoo from 7th October to 22nd October 2007. It was our 2nd time to the Maldives (went to Kuredu last year for our honeymoon), and we found this island completely different to our first Maldives experience.
The island is a reasonable size, and takes about 15-20 minutes to walk around it. All the accommodation looked pretty much the same, except for a few deluxe rooms (looked the same as the others), and a few rooms in the middle of the island (wouldn't recommend those).

Fantastic location. Basic room, and it takes a while to get round to the bathroom minus a roof. Take a hairdryer as only the deluxe or luxury rooms offer one. Also, if you want an enclosed bathroom book a deluxe room. Superior offers open bathroom only. Specify a room on the south side, as it's much nicer than the North side. Also, part of the beach at the North side was washed away by the Tsunami, and people with rooms at this end did not have a beach area and sunbathed under the trees. I woul ...

Went to Vilamendhoo Beach Villa in the Maldives in 2002 as a 'one off', and been back every single year since... Say no more.

The day trip for Thellaga (uninhabited island) for a BBQ is a real pleasure.
Worth paying for the Emirates flights from UK to Male (via Dubai) if you can, as you will get a better service, better food, more comfortable, and more reliable on a long trip than charter flights.

Room boys will willingly hike your sunbeds to any part of the island you want. (closer to th ...

The Maldives is a wonderful island of paradise. It is peaceful and well maintained. We stayed at Vilamendhoo Beach Villa.

Snorkeling was out of this world, and we haven't been able to beat it anywhere else. Food and service fantastic, even came to get us for dinner with an umbrella when it rained. Loved it so much we are going back again this year.

Vilamendhoo Beach Villa is in a great location. Great beach. Great coral / snorkelling. Staff are really helpful and friendly, couldn't do enough for us. The island was small and perfect. You could walk around it in 20 minutes when the tide was out. Brilliant memories and will be hard to beat. We are visiting a different island in two months, so it will have a lot to live up to - I will report back!
