Good Points: Food, service, staff, house band and singer, bars and overall cleanliness

    Bad Points: none

General comments: As a party of five ranging from 20 to 56 all members had a very enjoyable holiday. Our cruise was the Spice Island tour with a weeks stay in the Shanzu Paradise Beach hotel over Christmas and the New Year.
Previously, we have travelled with Fred Olsen and NCL cruise Lines and found the Royal Star evening meals excellent in comparison. The staff are first class.
The ship is small - as expected- but makes the holiday much more sociable than found on the larger liners.
The second week at the Shanzu Hotel was very good also. We booked the gourmet pass, which we would recommend, not due to buffet quality but the high standard of both food and sevice in the six a la carte restaurants avaliable.
The hotel rooms are basic but you are in AFRICA!! Remember it is a developing country that does not have all the luxuries or aminities you would find in Europe. If you must have these then holiday there.
What the rooms lack in decor they make up for in the view and location.
We would reccommend ASC to anyone.
Quick note: we decided to safari with North Coast Hunters (you will find them on the beach) covering Tsavo East and West. the company were superb, we were lucky to see all of the 'big five' and more.

Afican Safari Club sell the hotel as the Shanzu Paradise Beach Hotel, where in actual fact they are 2 hotels in the same chain. The Shanzu Paradise & The Shanzu Beach. There is no difference in the rooms of either hotel and all the facilities are shared - the Shanzu Paradise restaurant is however slightly better decorated and is located at beach level but the food offered is the same.

You can use the facilities of all the groups hotels and all are well maintained and very good. Evening en ...

Do not travel with this company if you are non-white. We had our passports taken away from us for twenty minutes on our return journey by ASC staff at Mombasa Airport and when we enquired why we were told, you are Indians so your passports will have to be checked away from the check-in desk. It is frightening when you do not know what is happening to your documents, away from sight.

If you have booked this hotel, try to cancel, or get a guarantee off your holiday club to say that there is nothing wrong with your hotel. We were allocated this hotel, even though we had booked 14 months in advance! I hope you like hopping from one reception desk to the next because this is what you are going to get. We have left Kenya with a bad taste in our mouths. We have holidayed in Kenya before but experienced nothing like this.

Our advice, don't go, try and get a refund.

Mombasa in June 2006 at Shanzu Paradise Beach resort was a wonderful experience, with a lovely, warm and cool climate. Nice rooms with air conditioning, and helpful staff. Excellent big buffet, and they had various European, Indian and Swahili cuisine/food. The cooks at paradise are some of the best you will come across. There are plenty of activities at the hotel for kids and adults, and buses to other hotels and excursions can be arranged. It is within walking distance to the local shops. I wo ...

This was our best holiday ever. The Paradise Beach Hotel is excellent, with all rooms furnished in hardwood throughout, nice big balconies, and great views.
The staff are so friendly & helpful, although they do not handle paperwork too well.
Being full board, I expected the food to become boring, but with a selection of restaurant options, including a great a la carte, that did not prove to be the case.
The safari was excellent, even though our bus developed a radiator leak which slowed us d ...

We booked Paradise Beach Hotel through African Safari Club who own the airline, hotels, safari lodges, and cruise ships for 13 nights including a 1 night safari to Tsavo. Firstly our plane seats were double booked but as we had checked in first we had priority. Secondly our baggage was badly damaged as was many other peoples. We were so glad we had paid the extra for the VIP transfer which enables you to travel with your luggage as those who didn't were left waiting for over 4 hours for their l ...
