Virgin media are absolutely terrible for gaming, high ping, high jitter and when trying to get hold of support you get put through to someone in Malaysia or India that goes through their "script" each time you call, effectively getting you nowhere and wasting your money on the call. On my second support call (which took an hour of ping and trace route testing) I was told there was a problem and it would get escalated to "the second tier" and would be called the following day to get the... I have had Virgin broadband now for 18 months and I have to say it has worked flawlessly for me, running at 60mb, with wireless router it supports three of us in the house continuously throughout the day and evening. I have never experienced an outage in that time or felt the effects of slowing. Almost embarrassed to say given others experiences but I would strongly recommend, much better than the old BT copper and the fibre cabinet that never materialised in our area. I pay for the line... Since switching to Virgin 3 years ago they have been excellent. Broadband is fast, tv package excellent and great value compared to the one up there^. Recently phoned to renew my contract with them and told them I was thinking of leaving, they upgraded me to Vivo and installed it free, plus fitted the old box in my bedroom, again free! Like many others we just upgraded to the 60MB broadband connection and have found our speeds worse than the previous connection and rarely about 4.5MB in the evenings. Adverts say 'up to' 60, so I don't expect it all the time, but there should be a 'minimum' of say, half that figure guaranteed at all times. And they don't respond promptly to online complaints of course - no doubt to take you over any 'cooling off' period so you can't cancel. (read more)

Also id like to add that they charge you £5 if you pay by any other means than direct debit. If your direct debit is canceled (not enough money in the account) they will charge you £10.
And they take the bills out mid month, so its not at pay day. They know that theres a greater chance they will default if they take money out at this time, so they can make money off the fines.
