“Don't use this insurance company you pay £15 a month...”

Don't use this insurance company you pay £15 a month for nothing really any damage to the phone and you end up having to pay up to and over £60 for a refurbished phone. Any other insurance I've ever had I've received a new one in return when stolen or damaged. This insurance company is just out to get your money don't use them. I wouldn't even rate them a 1 star. I recently damaged my Iphone whilst on holiday, apparently they don't like water! Although not insured I attended at the Carphone Warehouse in order to discuss the options available. Although I was aware that I could pay £185 for a refurbished handset I just asked for advice and was told the only option was to pay £509 for a new one! “Rather have Typhiod than deal with these guys again”

Had to continuously harange them to return calls. Offered me a Lumia 620 / G3 / I4 in lieu of Lumia 820. In their opinion they are the same spec! Nearly 2 weeks to get my replacement phone and only after 2 hours over 5 calls to them did they deliver. Only when the claim was escalated to senior management did they eventually replace with a 920. My nexus 4 was stolen on the Saturday mid afternoon. On phone to police then insurance the next day and claim was accepted within 1 hour. Went to nearest car phone warehouse that day paid my excess and was handed a brand new phone right there and then. Amazing. Less than 24 hours since incident and was replaced. claimed on an iPhone when it was stolen in transit back to Heathrow. These clowns failed to honour the claim as the phone was left "unattended" , duh how can it be attended when under supervision of the airline. After 5 years and over £500 in premiums these jerks had the nerve to cancel the policy off their own back before I had even had the chance to inform them of my intention to cancel it as this policy was absolutely useless to my needs. Buying an iphone 5 i knew the insurance would be expensive, but £14.99/month isnt bad, especially because iphones can smash and are likely to get stolen. I brought my Samsung Galaxy back to the Portsmouth shop as my mobile had suddenly stopped working. After 3-4 days I had notification to inform me they where unable to repair the phone. I have been informed this is because it has got wet!! On Samsung warranty it only lists warranty is not valid by misuse,, negglect and atmpering or incorrect adjustment. The refurb units are usually mint condition returns from direct sales. You would not be able to tell the difference between the replacement and a brand new sealed unit. The vast majority have not even been turned on and still have the screen seals on them.

They are not incentivised to fail a claim. Last year over 96% of claims were approved.

After loosing my iPhone last year Geek Squad quickly replaced it with what I believed was a new phone. It came in a different packaging but was clearly labelled 'new' on the box. I took out the rather expensive £13-99 per month insurance as the assistant swore it covered absolutely everything. My daughters phone was stolen out of her bag while in a monitored cloakroom. Was honest on claims form re circumstances and they declared it was lost and not covered. We were paying the highest rate insurance which we assumed would cover loss but no. I agree, I had problems but didn't let it drop went to the ombudsman and threatened them with the small claims court. after 6 months and loads of hassle finally got a replacement phone. would never use them again. keep trying thats all I can say. thats what I did, they twist everything their way. My daughter tried to claim on this insurance for a stolen phone. Her claim was denied - I looked at the insurance and there is no cover for theft in a public place, or if you made it likely to be stolen (whatever that means), or from a locked vehicle, or any accidental loss. So essentially you can claim if it is stolen from your house or you drop it in a loo (liquid damage). It is a shocking insurance and not cheap. My phone (still under warranty) broke today - the screen would not light up. Rather than that, phone works, i.e. voice control is fine, and if you know where you are clicking, you still can get the functionality out of it. The phone itself works, it's just the display that needs changing. I am a Branch Manager with the Carphone Warehouse and Im shocked at how your claim has been handled. The reputation of our company is in the hands of every individual and the staff serving you has really let us down.
Geek Squad is not another insurance policy, it is a full service experience for our customers. They offer an express exchange service if your phone is lost, stolen or damaged. If your replacement is in stock at the branch you should get it the same day and if not it is sent to you for next day delivery. Even if you crack the screen on your iphone they don't send it away for repair like other insurers they just replace the handset. There is no call centre to call and no claim forms to complete. Can you please post your customer number or most recent transaction number so I can investigate this?

It is by far the worst insurance I have ever paid for. The sales team at carphone warehouse said that it covered me for everything, this was a lie. Geek Squad insurance are the lowest of the low. When I bought my daughter a new Blackberry, I was persuaded to take out their insurance as "it will cover any and all eventualities" - according to the salesperson that was obviously on commission. Upss... I have had problems with them as well. It has cost me five months to get the notebook I had stolen!!!. They rejected my claim at the beginning as well because I did not went to the police within 24 hours (but in my policy, from 1.5 years ago) said I had 48 hours!. They also were ignoring my mails and it was me who has had to call them many times. Do not stop fighting! It is your right!. You can send a complaint to the Financial Ombudsmand if you need it.

“It covers nothing ?”

This insurance is automatically added when you buy from mobiles.co.uk and possibly some other companies I imagine. I bought a Samsung c3050 on 12month contract, the insurance would be £5.99 monthly. This covers only the phone and not against loss! So lose it and you get nothing. Further more the phone is the only thing covered not your contract. In a year i would have paid 71.88 to cover a phone that can be bought for 25 quid. Even if the phone was worth 100 quid or so work out the payments... (read more)

I bought a HTC One and after a few days thought i would start transferring my music and files over. I rang the Geek Squad and the agent staggered through the conversation. He couldn't think of the word that describes a password being in the correct format and case. I reminded him it was 'case sensitive' to which he responded 'yes, i think that it'.

He then said to download htc synch and ring back. Bad move by me becasue he was just trying to get rid of me. I rang back only to be put in the queue. I waiting 49 minutes on hold and had to hang up.

“Stolen Phone Claim & Replacement”

Terrible, Terrible Service. Had my Blackberry phone stolen from my workplace, informed the police within 24 hours, informed my network within 24 hours and had full block put on to sim and phone, went into store to file claim and was told by assistant that my claim was unlikely to be accepted, could'nt get an immediate decision as they'd promised at the purchase of this insurance, finally had a call 2 days later to inform me that claim had been accepted and to go to my local store, pay... Hi,

Hopefully i can clear some things up for you.

With regards to the replacement handset, the majority of phone replacements are refurbished stock but are of 'as new' condition and carry a 28 day exchange period so if it does develop a fault (or already have one) the store will order you a next working day replacement. But it does say in the policy booklet that you may get a refurbished model.

The fact that it had company data on is unusual as they put the latest software on before sending on which should over ride what was on before.

There was no reason for the store to say that your claim would not be accepted as the claims team will make the decision, not store.

The complaints team CAN take up to 8 weeks but expect a final response within 2 weeks.

CAn i ask how you got on? Found out today that my replacement phone I picked up yesterday was "new" but out of warrenty today. Discussion did lead to refurb however, the box said new on it.

“Criminal - Carphone Warehouse”

It’s appalling; I purchased a phone from Carphone Warehouse for my 12 year son. I initially went in to buy a phone for £70, but after talking to the sales person who assured me that Geek Squad insurance covered it for loss, theft and damage I bought a HTC Chacha and paid the year’s insurance in full. Hi,

You are right in the fact you would have been told your claim was referred as that is what the stores see on their computer then a letter is sent out once all is confirmed.

When signing up to the policy, it says on the policy booklet what you are covered for and you have to tick to show you have understood what you have read. Obviously you cannot prove what the advisor said but you have ticked to say you understand it.

I know its easy to say now but when signing up to any insurance, always read the key points before you sign to avoid complications later.

“An Absolute Farce, they should be put out of business”

Had my phone pickpocketed at the 02, went through all protocol, reported to police, told venue, got crime reference. Made my claim (after hugely convoluted process because I am not account holder, but claimant) and was told to wait 72 hours. Hi,

If you have a crime reference number and are appealing, the appeals team should take another look at it and reconsider.

The right decision will be reached but you have to let the process take place.
