Bad Points: I would like to find an automatic transmission for it, so I will not have to pump iron trying to use it manually. I am a tiny woman and would like to have the enjoyment of driving original, but having a little help. If you know where I can get a automatic trans for it, PLEASE HELP ME!

General comments: I have found an Austin A40 Devon here in Las Vegas. All the parts are there; I'm excited about putting it on the road. It is a beauty, in its rough state! I have listened to the comments about this wonderful type of car and would love to experience what some of you have experienced.

I have had over 15 A40 Devons, and I've found them to be a very simple car to work on. I've changed the suspension in mine to the later A50 and A60 Cambridge type because 16-inch tyres are very costly in this country (New Zealand). The slightly wider and smaller tyres will provide better handling. Many suspension parts from the later Austins, like the Cambridge range and the later BMC cars are interchangeable. Not only that, but wheel cylinders from Ford Escorts, Starter motors from PA Vauxhalls ...

I purchased my Devon in 1973. It was in very good condition with only 36,000 km on the odometer and all original. Only the paint had been redone once since new. The Devon was a real eye-catcher here in Ontario, Canada and was a hit wherever it was parked. I was fortunate to have found a Brit auto dealer whose parts counter person was extremely helpful in locating original parts when needed. I wish I would have kept the Devon, but "youth" had a different plan. The last I saw of my Devon, it had r ...

My Austin A40 Devon 1200cc 4 Door Classic Car was the product of salvaging three old cars my father had bought as spare-parts bombs. It was a labour of love to take the gearbox from the blue one, the motor and diff from the green one and fit them onto the black sedan. The original finish needed only to be buffed to a showroom shine and the old girl passed her roadworthy first try. I was proud to drive her everywhere and to watch the people stop and stare as I drove past. Sure she was sluggish ...
