“Rude and arrogant ”

written by Byronwhiteside on 25/08/2017

myself and the wife purchased a vehicle from the auction which we have done on many occasions. I was the highest bidder at £1400 When I went to leave my £400 deposit I was told I would have to wait on an answer from the current owner of if the bit is acceptable. This I understand. But why wait until the end of the auction? Completely impractical if your looking at a few cars. This is something they do constantly the hammer falls at a price the auctioneer does not mention that the bid is reserved. Again I understand it his job to move on swiftly and sell. You get a visit shortly after to be told a deposit is nessesery on a bid that has not even been confirmed. Yes your deposit is refundable should they not except the bid. However I'd like to add if they don't except the bit on the evening of the auction and then you find out a few days later you have to make the visit all the way back to the auction house to have the funds added back to your card. And then wait for it to go back in So my gripe? At the end of the auction this evening we went to the counter and asked has the bid been made successful she came back to me and tell me the vendor wanted a further £250 on top of my bid. My response was they always do that is ridiculous If it's provisional then why deposit. Young lady that served me took massive offence to my comment and replied with a blunt sharp in your face well that's just the way it is . My response was well it's mental to which we proceeded through a crowded room full of people waiting to hear their answer to discuss what the final price would be with the auction fees added on. With a rude tone I was told well I don't know what it will be I haven't worked that out? Could you imagine being a bus driver and not nine how much it would cost for a passenger to go along two stops. I asked her to confirm what the bid was at the time of auction. So I can have a clearer view of how much exactly on top they were asking for. Agreed to pay it and asked whether she like me to pay it in cash on the card she said no on the card through the terminal at me and asked me to enter my pin. The people stood next to me and noticed that the young girl and a elderly colleague were discussing something I did notice that they were actually refunding me the money. I asked her if she's making a refund and again the hairs on your chest must have risen massively as I have made her aware and I actually said I'd like to purchase the car. The whole crowded room heard me say I'd like to go ahead and she didn't I don't understand how being massively stroppy and out right rude is acceptable after all I'm now the one who has to wait for the deposit to be loaded back to my card as she had to take the deposit again to make the payment. She must've took a massive dislike to me as she was all jolly and out going to the other people were saying they didn't want to pay the price that they were coming back with everybody else seem to be getting excepted for their original bid. She made every effort to not serve me and in fact I was last in the queue to be served again to make the full payment and she walked away and snubed me and Sat at her desk. Leaving the chap to serve me. This is not the first occasion this has happened to me. If you doesn't wanna work on Friday evening then maybe she needs to find a different job I would recommend one that's not customer facing with a sour and bitter attitude that she has. Point is I'm sure there is a much more professional way to deal with things. Then being passive aggressive towards paying customers.

I've bought most of my familys cars here over the last 20 years. It's a good place to go to get a bargain. As ever I'd advise you to do your homework first before you go, and maybe don't buy on the first visit, just observe. The auctioneer is honest & friendly & I've been to many, much worse auctions than this! Although it's indoors all the doors are left open to get the fumes out so take a coat. Theres a little tea/snack bar to keep you going too. Good luck!

Eastbourne Car Auctions Ltd are worth a visit but view on line(no pics) to see if the car you want is at the next or future auction. Keen low prices. Go for FSH. Why buy from a dealer when the local dealers buy here!
