    Good points with Sol Cayo Coco, everything, the people, food and entertainment. Extremely nice resort would go again anyday! There is a lot of meat...so if you are vegetarian you may not enjoy the buffet

    Don't go in our summer, best time to go is feb, march - as no mozzies. Never got bite once (honestly) and the money thing. Before I went last feb 2008, everyone was saying take dollars. Don't, Cubian Peso is all you need. Don't take american express either as charged cubians will refuse it. Understandable if you thinking carribean, Cuba got to be the place! Enjoy we certainly did.

    First I'd like to clarify that the Sol Cayo Coco is not anywhere near Varadero, it is on the island of Cayo Coco, Cuba.
    The resort itself was quiet, nothing going on really apart from in the hotels. Because Cuban nationals cannot live on the island and need a permit to visit, you do not see any typical Cuban life. That means, no little independent cafes, no fruit sellers on the streets or beaches or anything like that.

    We (myself (20) and my boyfriend (25)) stayed at the Sol Cayo Coco between 22nd June-6th July 2005, travelled with Thomas Cook.

    I hope you all find this review helpful, but if you have further questions, please do not hesitate to email me! Sorry if it is a bit long, but I wanted to be thorough and objective, especially after the recent reviews. I have also put up photos taken around the hotel.

    Varadero, Sol Cayo Coco - Never in a million years a 4 star, 2 star at best. We spent 2 weeks here and have never been so pleased to get home. Staff used hands to make pizza at times wiped sweat from head and then carried on making pizza (we refused to eat it). Pool dirty and most kids came down with ear infections. I can honesly say the only pleasure you will get from a holiday here is on beach. Only bedrooms have air con so bars were nicknamed seat box. Bedding was changed only once a week, w ...

    From the start: Our check in was 10/10. It was done on the coach en route to the hotel. Identity bands and hotel details where given, so all that was left to do was collect our door key card at reception.
    Our room was on the top floor(no lifts) and was basic, clean and light 6/10. You have to put your door lock card into a slot next to the front door to enable the power to come on, which means when you go out you have to leave the in adequate air conditioning off.
