“Miss-sold a wedding”

Written on: 15/05/2013

We booked up through Thomas cook to get married in cyprus at the Elysium hotel cyprus 6 years ago and were excited once we had looked at all the photos of this amazing hotel. We had decided to get married in the amphitheatre but once we got there we soon realised that the amphitheater was infact a few steps and a giant chess board where everyone could walk through. Thpmas cook rep was so unhelpful with other problems we were having with the venue that we cancelled our wedding we were offered... (read more)

“Our amazing holiday in Cyprus.”

Written on: 13/05/2013 by susie59

This was our first holiday in Cyprus. We stayed at the Astreas beach apartments in Protarus. The hotel is in a perfect location, just a stroll through the car park and you are on Fig Tree Bay. This is a lovely beach with soft sand and gentle water , very safe for children. There is a lovely walk way from one end of the beach to the other, with lots of restaurants on the way. There are lots of water sports to choose from. The hotel is clean and the reception is comfortable with lots of... (read more)

“County Court Judgment still not paid (12/5/2013)”

Written on: 12/05/2013 by arnoldthefrog (1 review written)

Booked a holiday to Cyprotel Cypria Bay, Cyprus online September 2012. The website claimed the guest rooms were having a refurbishment to be completed April 2012. I complained to them and offered to move to the hotel next-door but all they did was try to bully us into going on the holiday I booked. I refused to go and successfully sued them in Bradford County Court on the 19/4/2013. The judge in her summing up could not believe that Thomas Cook had left the claim on their website for six... Arnoldthefrog's Response to arnoldthefrog's Review

Written on: 15/05/2013

The cheque for the full amount of the judgment has now landed (15/5/2013). All holiday costs + all court costs + £1000 compensation for not going on the holiday. If I had gone on the holiday I would have received the difference between what I thought I was getting and what I got (4* down to 3*). Plus I would have had all the stress of trying to sort out the issue whilst there. Although Thomas Cook had made the information available on their website, it was at the bottom of the page and they supplied another button that enable me to bypass the "important information" that stated the hotel had not been refurbished. Basic contract law requires that what you expect to receive must be clear. I argued successfully that by providing a shortcut that bypasses the information at the bottom of the page (off screen) I was not given "fair chance to make an informed decision" prior to accepting the contract. There was also a second chance to view this important information but that instance did not contain the required statement that the hotel had not been refurbished. The true face of a business is only seen when things go wrong.

From the minute I booked my holiday with the very helpful staff in the St Enoch Shopping Centre to our return on the flight, every member of the Thomas Cook staff were great. I wouldn't hesitate to book a holiday with Thomas Cook again. “Wedding day blues”

Written on: 18/04/2013 by Crushed

Our daughter planned a destination wedding thru Thomas Cook. What a joke. The agent couldnt plan breakfast for a canary. The stories we got where a true indication that she was a poor liar or just stupid. No air plane itinerary till we had all (40 guests) had paid in full. Quess what all flights where red eye. The direct transfer from the airport to the hotel made 3 stops before our group got dropped off. We landed at 0215 and finally got to the hotel (30 min by cab) at 6 AM! Several... (read more)

Booked three Thomas Cook holidays. Two have been awful; bad accommodation in the first, taken to a different hotel in the second. Sent in a complaint. First they said no, then I created a website. They have now offered 200 pounds back (and tried to bully me into taking it). I have asked for my deposit back for the third and they are saying "how do I know it will be bad..." Should your holiday be very unsatisfactory and you wish to complain , don't expect a personal reply! We received one of those 'one fits all' replays where the location detail were to be filled! My wife and I have spent some £15,000 over the last three years with Thomas Cook. We were previously badly let down on a Florida trip where it took us six months to gain our legally entitled compensation. Last October we suffered an 11 hour 58 minute delay on our return from Tenerife. At the airport, the Thomas Cook staff were rude and unhelpful, and their response to our EU legal entitlement is to hide behind the "exceptional circumstances" rule. This is bizarre as we had the exact opposite problem - due to the odd times of our flight we did not want the inflight meals but TC told us these were compulsory and would not let us cancel the meals!! Clearly inflexible, and a bit confusing! We had HUGE problems with the website giving conflicting information too. Also, when we tried to check-in online the site crashed and would not work for several days - even when the TC store staff tried. Shockingly bad service.

Where TC aware of your brother-in-law's special needs and therefore the requirement for him to be in his own room? It is also highly inappropriate for a young child to share a bed with a 52 year old man who is not his father or grandfather, and therefore shocking that TC suggested this. You could take legal advice - speak to a no win/no fee solicitor - there are some national ones which specialize in holiday claims. TC are ABTA registered but you would have to make enquiries as this carries limited cover. You could write to head office but be prepared for them to try to fob you off with an apology and a string of excuses. You need to state that you require a 'goodwill gesture' (compensation) from them for the 'loss of enjoyment' of holiday as well as any difference in cost there would have been in the alternate room arrangement - if any. If they do make an offer, it is worth refusing the first one as this will be much less than your claim is worth and they may consider raising it if you are persistent. Good luck. And don't book with TC again!

We arrived at Gatwick and checked in at 5 a.m ready for our 7am flight and were told by a very rude check-in clerk that the flight was delayed until 10 for 'operational reasons'. Oh well, 3 hours to kill..these things happen. At 10 am, the departure information told us that the flight would not board until 10.40...then 11. At... (read more)

“Rip off Thomas Cook number of holiday nights had to...”

Written on: 15/09/2012

We booked with Thomas Cook to fly from Manchester on 4th August 2012 at 8pm to Dalaman & stayed at the Hotel Majestic Olu Deniz. We arrived early hours on 5th August 2012, and departed the hotel on the 11 august at 11pm for our journey to Dalaman airport. We were advised on the morning of the 11 august, that we had to vacate our room by 11am unless we payed a fee to keep the room until 11pm. Our point being we paid this company on agreement of the holiday cost for a 7 night stay, and not 6... (read more)

I am surprised you were asked to check out at 11 am as normal check out time is 12 noon. This is stated on your invoice and normal internationally. Rooms are held from 12 noon on the day of the arrival regardless of what time you arrive and that is your first night. If you wish to stay longer a late check is payable locally.

“Terrible flight experience with awful customer service ”

Written on: 13/09/2012 by jmax1966

Don't fly with them. The planes are falling apart and shabby and the customer service is really awful. We were delayed for over 2 hours due to a technical problem with the hydraulics. A part was taken off another A330 and used on our aircraft. Was it actually safe to fly in the first place? 6.5 hours into the flight we were informed we would be landing back at Gatwick and we flew out on another A330 the next day. I believe Thomas Cook did not turn the plane around for safety reasons... (read more)

Lemondrop's Response to jmax1966's Review

We were on this flight and it was a diabolical shambles!!!!! Like you I don't think we should have taken off and safety was compromised. If I had known that a full refund was possible I think we would have taken that option. I used to be cabin crew and it is a standard procedure for fire engines to met a flight with technical problems but when I heard cabin Crew man doors it was very unnerving.
I was very annoyed that all Thomas Cook said was go to your Insurance Company but the letters we were given stated that we did not take off on the orginal date so the insurance will not pay out as we left the country and the orignal delay was under 3 hours!!!! What Thomas Cook are asking us to do is commit fraud by lying to the Insurance Companies.
it was definitely convenient for Thomas Cook to return the plane to Gatwick with no considreation for the 308 passengers on board and I am not sure how hard the captain pushed to be allowed to continue to Cuba despite him telling us that was what he wanted to do. I think he was telling us what he felt we wanted to hear and to play down the seriousness of the situation.
I am going to pursue this matter with Thomas Cook and will not back down until I have adequate compensation. I do hope that the other passengers on this flight do the same.

“Cuba - Cayo Coco and Havana Twin Centre”

Written on: 12/09/2012

We decided to return to Cuba after going to Guardalavaca in 2005, but decided to go to Cayo Coco and Havana on a twin centre holiday. Thomas Cook had the best options for us when we looked into it so we booked it with them. I am not good coach traveller so only decided to book this when we were advised that we would be flying to Havana and back. The flight out was good and the check in to our hotel was fine. The following morning we were collected to fly to Havana for 3 nights. After a... (read more)
