Good Points: Cheap, Central Location, Good Pool Area.
Bad Points: Very basic, In need of renovation, Some of the staff are very unhelpful.
General comments: Our decision to go on holiday was very last minute and on a very limited budget. The description of the Grand Sarba and resort sounded perfect and the price was within our budget.
The transfer from Dalaman to Marmaris and then onto Icmeler was well handled and smooth and it took just over 2 1/2 hours from airport to actually arriving to our hotel.
The first impression of Icmeler was good. It is a specifically built resort for the budget holiday maker.
The hotel really cannot be classified as 3 Star - if there was no pool it is really no better than a 1 Star B & B.
Icmeler is a very pleasant resort and much quieter than Marmaris - which quite frankly is like Blackpool By the Med.
The beach is not sandy but rather shingle - the sea is clear, warm and nice to swim in. You have to pay 2,000,000 Lira (about 80p) per day to use the sunbeds and the beach side cafes which seem to run the part of the beach in front of their cafe and rent out the beds tout for business in a very pushy way. The beds are put side by side and very close to each other. Be careful to make sure you ask to see the beach drinks menu as the prices vary greatly from one beach cafe to the next.
We found that the best way to enjoy the place was to go out on a day boat trip which is very very reasonable (between £6 & £7), lasts about 7 hours and visits 5 or 6 quite bays for swimming breaks, serves a good lunch and provides a comfortable shaded sitting as well as sunbeds on the upper deck. Drinks are well priced (80p for soft drinks, £1.20 for beer and spirits about £1.60)
We found the best of these was run by a company called Alka Tours - owned by a guy called Suleman and the trip is called 'Lazy Day' on the Erin I boat captained by Pasha and his wife.
This is without doubt better than being on a crowded beach getting hassled or ripped off at the beach cafes.
If you are looking for sun & sea on a budget, aren't looking for gourmet food and are happy staying in a basic but comfortable B & B you won't go wrong.
Better places to stay - the Hotel L'toile, Maris or Marmaris Palace.
