I HAD BEEN INSURED BY THIS RIP OFF COMPANY FOR THREE YEARS AND THOUGHT THAT I HAD FULL COVER, AFTER ALL IT STATED SO IN THE POLICY. I MADE A CLAIM AND THEY REFUSED MY CLAIM AND WOULD NOT PAY OUT. HAD A RENEWAL THROUGH MY PREMIUM HAD GONE UP BY A WHOPPING 82% EVEN THOUGH THEY WOULD NOT PAY MY CLAIM. TO SAY THAT THIS COMPANY IS A RIP OFF COMPANY IS PUTTING IT MILDLY. Stay away from this company !!!
Our caravan window was damaged by someone who wanted to gain access to our caravan to sleep in, several weeks after this happened we changed our caravan:I rang E&L to inform them of this and to get a new quote, to my surprise I was told that due to making a claim they would not insure us with our new van.
When I spoke to the caravan club they could not believe what had happened. The company is a total sham !!! (read more)

Absolutely awful. Tried to make a legitimate accidental damage claim and they would not pay. Also found out that they have been charging me more than double next most expensive for 5 yrs. Went onto insurance comparison site and even they were half of what they were charging me. Absolute rip off and they have no intention of covering what you pay for. Don't touch with a long pole. As previous reports, I made a claim for damaged roof light to be told, after paying 11 months 2 weeks insurance, that I was not covered for accidental damage. I had a damaged awning on summer and had to claim, unfortunately their small print struck again and they declined to payout.
When my cover ended I took out new insurance with another company and was quite supprised to learn that they automatically removed the next years premium from my account with out my consent.
When i complained they hung up on me ! and it took me quite a while to get a refund.
Please never NEVER use this company, they have been nothing but trouble. (read more)

Considering that 96% of customers of this insurer would not recommend it to anyone else, a further negative review is perhaps unnecessary. But E&L -- which describes itself as "a niche insurer" -- is so shambolic an outfit, a further wqarning to everyone to stay well clear of it is justified.
In our case, as static 'van newbies, we took out an annual policy with the company and thought no more about it. And fortunately (unlike so many others here) we had a claim-free year. At renewal time,... (read more)

Have just tried to make a claim on our caravan insurance following an accident only to discover that we don't have cover for accidental damage. Have been told by E&L that they are not allowed by law to advise on cover but it seems they are allowed to add optional extras to premium payments without mentioning it (I have discovered when cancelling my direct debit that I have been paying £3.60 per month extra for premium waiver and legal fees that I never recall agreeing to). Furthermore, I... (read more)

I sufferd fire damage to my caravan and made a claim with E&L only to be told I was not covered. My caravan was damaged due to an accident, which was not my fault. They told me that as it was raining heavily I was not taking enough care. I bought our first caravan last summer (2008) and shopped around the internet for insurance. We went with E&L. Foolishly I had unhitched the caravan and did not pull the handbrake on fully to its verticle position. It rolled forward and hit a wall causing minor damage to the front panel. I wish I read the reviews before taking out insurance with them.
Last year I bought a new caravan and like most people I searched the internet for the best insurance quote. E&L was the cheapest and the most responsive. As my policy is now due for rewal and have not yet received their new offer I contacting them for their quote for this year, I have found it to be 85 pounds more expensive, about 40% more. E&L Caravan Insurance told me I could get my window repaired at the place where I had just bought it brand new then, two months later, said I had to go to a certain dealer to have it done. They also said my excess was doubled because I was an inexperienced tower (was in the conditions - somewhere!) which meant they would only pay £30 of a £280 claim. Started off by being the cheapest monthly caravan insurer we found on the internet. Then not long after we started policy they wrote to say it was going up by £1 or £2 for a 'better policy'. They did this at least 3 times over the year! So look out for this as it will probably work out the dearest. Also they take 'lunar month' payments, ie. every 28 days, which is 13 payments per year. Again, look out as two premiums will come out in one pay-month! Have just checked out quote for a brand new... (read more)

In view of the comments made by former policy holders with regard to settling claims for stolen caravans I find myself very insecure about my policy. Although I answered all questions asked of me when I applied online, it was never suggested to me that the place of storage was unsatisfactory, or that as the caravan was worth over £5,000, I should have an alarm fitted, (there were plenty of other security devices fitted).
