I was very pleased with the service at Hertz at Avignon TGV. They were very helpful and gave me a map and advised me on the journey. With this and a previous rental in Sicily I paid for Auto Europe's collision damage waiver insurance beforehand, which seems reasonable and means peace of mind and no being hassled with extras when you pick up. “Watch out for the expensive extras”

I booked through Auto Europe and the hire was sub-let to Hertz - i should have had a concern then! At the pick up desk at La Rochelle the attendant didn't inspire confidence and certainly didn't have a command of the English language (I don't have a command of French either). I made an online car rental booking for a period of just over two months to travel mainly in Italy and France. I made the booking through a broker but didn't realise this at the time. The price was very similar to mainstream companies but they had no availability of vehicles for the time I nominated. Overall, very happy. The company used was Europcar. Collecting car was straightforward. You have to be proactive in asking questions, don't expect them to tell you things automatically. We had prepared questions to ask regarding travel to France, such as was car equipped with necessary features e.g. jacket etc. Also, map for return of car to airport. AutoEurope was the first online rental trader that definitely has helped my life, on holiday, business and day life. We haven't hired many cars in Europe but I would look harder than Auto Europe next time. Part of the problem was the lack of clear signage at Graz airport (Austria) This was not the fault of Auto Europe bit it did waste time in trying to find the collection point, even with a German speaker! The main problem was that damage excess payment was only possible via a credit card. This is something we don't use, like many people. Hi There

Thank you for your feedback and we are glad you were able to collect the vehicle with not too much disruption to your holiday.
As a broker we do deal with a number of car hire suppliers; each with their own ruling on which type of cards can be used for the excess amount.
In a bid to be as transparent as we can be we do show the T&C information online, viewable before you make you're booking and list all conditions on the car hire vouchers.
Please note we do also have a call centre that will answer any questions you may have regarding your rental.
I do hope that this does not deter you from choosing Auto Europe in the future.

Regularly hire in Europe & don't understand difficulty experienced by the reviewer.
Graz is a very small airport with EASY to find, signposted car hire centre 20 yards from the end of the terminal building & incorporated in the multi story car park.

( I understand the unwillingness to provide credit card against excess claim, but without checking, I seem to recall that the small print covers it ).

Also, return (Hertz) was a doddle. Tank filled, car intact, keys & documents through the letter box as at mid-day on a Saturday things were v quiet & no sign of the staff .....

Our booking was sublet to Hertz. On arrival we given amended excess amounts which were ludicrously high with a ridiculous daily amount quoted to offset the excess. We were unable to add an additional driver for any period less than the total hire duration. Having previously been very satisfied with auto europe I was very disappointed on this occasion. Please note that the supplier excess amount is shown on the car hire voucher; we do have a number of suppliers each with their own excess rules. However the amount advised by the depot must match the amount stated on the voucher. If this was not the case then please contact our Customer Services Team so that they can investigate this further.
It is correct that the extra drivers must be charged for the full rental duration; the reason for this is for the insurance to be valid. As the supplier does not know what days the extra driver will be driving the vehicle for, they have to charge for the same amount of days as the rental period.
For further clarification on this please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

1.) I hired a car from Auto-Europe for a holiday in Italy. Upon arrival in Italy at T3 of Fiumicino International Airport I followed the signs to the car hire desks, which were over in T1 on the 3rd floor. We have hired various cars on numerous occasions with auto-Europe and have been very happy with the service especially in Erfurt but the service at Munich airport is terrible. The Verona Hertz staff were not that interested and less so when they saw our Auto Europe voucher. The 7-seat Ford S-Max was quite new, big enough for my 6-person family. Quite frankly I was relieved given some of these client reviews. We booked via Auto Europe for a small car for 2 weeks at Bologna, Italy. Our voucher was for Hertz. Overall the service was very poor. On arrival , customer service was extremely slow, with no real explanation for this. Staff struggled initially to provide us with a car. When one wad found for us, we were alerted that the car was damaged. It certainly was! It was covered in dents, and generally not in great condition. Also all vehicles must be provided in a clean and roadworthy conditions; it can happen that a vehicle may have a few minor marks from the previous renter. However these can only be minor and definitely not covered in dent.

Dear Client

I am very sorry that you feel Auto Europe have mis-informed you off the local fees charged by the suppliers.

The one way fee was original quoted as Euro400+VAT, and from my understanding of the information provided by the customer service team this was the amount charges by the supplier.
Please note that any local amounts paid to the suppliers are in no way a monetary advantage to Auto Europe. The amount we charge is for the rental days of the vehicle, the local amounts charged in the local currency are accrued by the suppliers directly.

“Zero customer service skills!”

These guys have absolutely NO customer service skills over email. I firstly wrote to ask whether the online quotes included a one-way rental few (as I was dropping the car off at a different location). They then proceeded to ask about 20 questions about the hire details (dates, pick up location, time, and all my personal details etc). I needed to cancel my booking and as it says on the front of their website NO CANCELLATION OR AMENDMENT FEES. Thank you for your feedback, to confirm the vehicle booked is not a van. We do have internal descriptions to decipher the vehicle type in our system. As this vehicle can take 5 and 7 passengers it defaults to include the van description.

They block your money directly to your credit card even if the reservation is not confirmed. When you go to pick up the car at the assigned agency, there have no idea of the reservation number that Autoeurpe has given to you. If you call your phone complaints, (which only runs until 13:00 hours), they treat you like a fool and say they do not have confirmed the car even if you have the voucher and bank has charged for rent . “Not the car ordered!”

I specifically chose Auto Europe because they had availabilty on a 'Ford Galaxy or similar', that seats 7 adults plus has space for some luggage too. The holiday was partially ruined by receiving an Opal Zafira, with 5 adult seats and two fold up seats in the boot, not big enough for any of our 6 foot tall plus party! Rental from hertz Perpignan to use on Spain as well. Not all allow this but no trouble to hertz. Reasonable cost and full to full which is unusual and a good cash saver as only used quarter tank. Bit of a wait for car but three English speaking staff. The very first time in many rents not tried to sell any extras!!
