    General comments: Rented a car in Alghero and paid for it in May. On my arrival at the airport the 19 of june 2009 the rental agent told me there were no cars available. The agent Sicily by car told me that autoeurope rents out routinely more cars than they actually have and it implied that lots of customers were left stranded in Alghero airport. The following day I offered me a SMART car instead of the intermediate car I had booked. As the car would not even take the luggage I declined the offer. NEVER , NEVER in 30 years of booking cars around the globe I was put in such a situation. I have sent 2 e-mails and tried to contact auto-europe over the phone numerous times with no answers. I still have not been refunded the payment. . Will never use auto europe again.

    We found it easy to book on Auto Europe and they are friendly over the phone. One thing that they didn't do a good job of disclosing is their 24-hour clock rule -- i.e. if you drop off your car even the slightest bit late, you will be subject to potentially really high charges for the local car rental company. My husband and I got lost when returning our car and turned it in a few hours later than we put in the contract and we were hit with almost a $200 charge late fee!

    Booked car from Malaga airport for 6 days through Auto Europe Car Hire. In contract says bring car back empty but on reflection the fuel issue is fraudulent in my view and a charge of 60 euros for a tank of petrol in a small car is outrageous. We took the car back much more than half full. This means the replacement fuel will probably cost 20 euros and the next poor customer will be conned into paying another 60 euros.

    I rented both a car and a GPS from Auto Europe Car Hire for a trip to Ireland recently. The GPS was shipped to my home prior to the trip, and I was going to ship it back upon returning from our vacation. When I tried to take the GPS out of the car at Shannon airport, the agent told me to leave it in the car. I told him 3 times I had to return in when I returned home.     Sadly I have also had problems with Auto Europe Car Hire on the very same issues that many others have written about. Chaotic long wait in Portugal which was bad for our holiday start (we are talking upward of 1 hour) then a wrangle over money back and......never again!!!

    Like everybody else, I was caught by the pre paid fuel thing from auto europe car hire.What a ripoff. ' 60 for a tank of petrol in Canaries that cost ' 35.I cancelled and was charged £UK32. What about the no cancellation fee.

    Totally unacceptable place. Auto Europe Car Hire offered me a good car at a good price, then took money out of my account to email me one week later and say they could only offer me a worse car at a much higher rate. It then took 2 weeks to get a refund.

    We used Auto Europe Car Hire in Girona in Feb 09 and had NO bother at all. The transcation was smooth and efficient. The car was as advertised.

    great, cheap quote from Auto Europe Car Hire, so we booked, bu tthat was the last of a decent service. They sub out to the car hire companies so are not in control. Arrived in portugal and had to wait for2.5 hours to get the key and then another .75 hour to pick up a filthy dirty car. by this time all the shops were closed so we could not pick up provisions and a very unhappy young son - wife wasn't too happy either. They offered to change the car if we drove back to the airport and waited ...

    It seems to me that Auto Europe try to get customers with low quotes only to still get the full price afterwards with these hidden charges. This so called "option" seems to be a scam, nobody in their right mind would choose for that because it is not a problem to fill up a car before returning it. Auto Europe quote a good price up front but when you pick up the car (from National at NY LaGuardia) you are immediately charged a full tank of gas against a rip-off rate called "pre-paid fuel" but thi ...

    Auto Europe Car Hire quote a good price but when I picked up the car (National at NY LaGuardia) I was required (so NOT optional) to purchase a full tank of gas against a high rate, We actually paid $49,18 for a tank of gas that cost $22 at the pump! After complaint upon return we were told that it was an option at National and not a Auto Europe requirement. National told us we had to pay because we were obliged by Auto Europe to do so.     On return from my holiday in the South of France July 07 (Marseille Airport) I was mistakenly charged £60.01 my Auto Europe Car Hire for returning the car full, despite being advised on my booking form to return the car full of petrol, finally I have received the money back. in future I will use another Company. Read your car rental agreement before signing anything and if abroad ask for an English translation.

    This is by far the best hire car we have ever had, a brand new red seat Ibiza, it sat in the car park waiting for us all shiny and new, it drove well and never had a problem. The service was good at the pick up desk and we haven't had any extras added to our visa bill. The car was hired through auto-europe but the handlers were europe-car which if we had booked through them would have cost us £300 more. We would definitely recommend and use them again.

    Car was actually supplied by Avis who failed to clean it before pick-up. Bad point to them really, but, since it was one third the price Avis were asking, I'm not complaining. Would certainly use again

    I have used Autoeurope all over the med for quite a few years. They are I think the lowest cost rental company. I use them a lot in Corfu and they tend to dish out the car rental to one of about 5 different rental companies at the airport i.e National or Hertz etc. There is never an actual Autoeurope desk. I have had no issues with them (yet). I have just hired a car for Christmas for three weeks in Tenerife and it works out at around £10 per day which has got to be good value. I wou ...

    Note sent to Auto Europe - 1) On the voucher it had the local car hire as Europa. When I arrived at Las Palmas I could not find any car hire agent called Europa. Having spent 30 min looking for Europa and making enquiries with Airport information I discover that Europa had changed their name to Gold Car ! Auto Europe never advised me of this.     Damaged bumper not covered by insurance! They want $3000 to fix. appraisal sent in German! They do not cover "underside" damage, but it was the bumper!!!

    This company was an absolute pleasure to work with for my European vacation. Not only did they help us when we were at the rental counter, they lowered the price when we found a lower one online. We rented first in London, no problems.Second in Frankfurt, the local supplier tried to force us into a smaller car and make us take the CDW, so we called Auto Europe from the counter, and they straightened it out for us, AND the rental station had to give us a mercedes C, which was awesome.Third In Ge ...

    I rented a car from Auto Europe for a trip to Europe. They charged me the total amount when I made the reservation, although it was a month prior to my trip. Upon returning from Europe the car rental company in Europe sent me an invoice informing me that they had charged my credit card. Therefore, I was billed twice!
