“Misleading. Bait & switch. Poor customer service”

Booked a car online for a week for €15 (Goldcar). When I arrived at Goldcar counter in Seville, they had me pay a mandatory 'service fee' of €27. Nowhere in my booking or on their site did Auto Europe mention this fee. Second, I booked the car with the full-empty fuel option, but nevertheless I had to return the car with a full fuel tank, otherwise Goldcar would charge me €80. “Worst customer service i've encountered when renting a car”

I rented a car and paid for the excess refund package that was supposed to clearly and easily get me my money back in case of damage to the rented car. Upon returning the car to DRIVE ON HOLIDAY (with a small dent in one of the doors that happened while parking) i was charged the full 1100 EUR for damages. This, by the way, is the reason they ask you to bring a credit card in the driver's name when you pick up the car. AutoEurope refuse to reimburse my money. Hello, I booked a rental car for 6 days through CheapoAir, at the Europcar agency at the Nice airport in France. The rental price was very competivive in that car class (compact) and it seemed to include all common and well-known taxes for that location, which I have been there many times (near my hometown in France) and I had booked with many other rental agencies and online booking sites. Yes we should have read the small print - but beware - the car rental company made us have snow tyres and then charged 9 euros a day (this was Avis) - so the quote you get is not what you are actually paying BEWARE! It may seem a good offer but really it does not include everything that is actually required - i.e. they said we must have snow tyres - and had to pay extra. “Don't rent from them!! ”

 They are a car brokerage company and were incorrect about the realties about the options available to you from the country you'll be renting from. Rent directly from the car company for better service and a CHEAPER price. They were incorrect about what cars were available when we were going to Ireland which forced us to choose a much bigger car than we needed because we couldn't choose smaller. I received an email as a member of their privilege scheme. 0ffering 25% discount. This link directed me to US website which resulted in the cost of booking being doubled, due to having to take out extra insurance. Customer service do not call back when advised. Don't call back at all. 25 days after initial complaint no progress. Have to repeatedly call premium number. It's an absolute lottery as to who you get from polite to young adults who hang up. We are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your recent experience with Auto Europe.

If a link was taking you to the USA website, then this newsletter and discount would have been aimed at US residents only. I am unsure why you would have received this.

The rates can differ depending on which country you are booking from, the reason for this is that different countries have different sets of terms and conditions. The inclusions of the prices can also differ.

If you are a UK passport holder then you should be booking via the UK website.

Please do note that you can cancel your rental up to 48 ours before collection and receive 100% of the cost back. If you have a US dollar booking which is higher than a UK pound booking, this can be cancelled and the booking then made in our UK system.

You sent the email to me as member of your UK privilege card system. I've never been to the US. I received by confirmation in Pounds. Being able to cancel 48 hours prior pick-up is not relevant when you only find out you have a US booking on pick-up. And are then charges an extra 300 pounds.

This is not a medium for you to advertise your T&C. Much like your hopeless customer service team you had failed to read my review, and just glossed over it.

The complaint has now been resolved with Europcar admitting full responsibility. However this has taken 30 days not being replied too. Your customer service manager Ryan Gibson has obviously been promoted far beyond his capabilities after 4 weeks you get an email at 17:55 on a Friday with a conclusion that's it's my fault. This decision is then reversed after proper investigation.

Think twice before booking through Auto Europe! Made a booking for Amsterdam Schiphol with my debit credit card. Never ever had problems with the card all over the world. The rude lady at the Hertz/Thrifty counter refused my card and did not even offer alternatives. She did not even accept a cash deposit. She said i could claim my money back and i did not get my money back. So no car and they kept my money. Never ever again!!! When making a booking online it does state that a credit card, in the primary drivers name, is required at the time of collection. This information is also printed on the car hire voucher that you are asked to print and produce when collecting the vehicle. Our reservation centre is open Monday to Saturday, from 08:00 to 21:00, and on Sunday from 09:00 to 19:00 with the toll-free number - 0800 358 1229. I have the very same experience with Auto Europe and totally agree with your comment. I booked the car from Auto Europe Germany so apparently it is the same story. We had the most customer-unfriendly employee at Drive and Go at Porto claiming he had enough customers and wanted us to go (but not to drive).
I normally book directly with Avis or Hertz and never had problems with them. I was just too fast, found a "good" price and did not read the comments of other ripped-off Auto Europe Clients carefully.

We are very sorry to hear that you were unable to collect the pre-booked vehicle and that you incurred additional costs because of this.

When booking online we do show the status of the supplier at the airport; in this case Goldcar displays the message 'shuttle service'. This information is also printed on the car hire voucher that you are required to print and take when collected your vehicle.

We do understand that once booked you may need to change or cancel a booking; as such we have a call centre that is open between the hours of 8am - 9pm. Should you need to contact us before the rental we can then answer any questions or make any changes.

However should you cancel within 48 hours of collect, or not collect the pre-booked vehicle the supplier will impose cancellations charges.

For further information on your rental please do contact our Customer Service Team directly.

fter booking my car rental with AutoEurope i was told i would be met at the airport by a driver who would take me by shuttle to the hire company to receive my car. I totally agree with the customer claiming that your personal is not trained. My husband and I had the same experience, your people only speak some English or are even not able to speak the language of your customers (German which is not a small language I think?) The agent put us on music the whole time to get rid of us or because he did not know how to help, The worst experience we have ever had with a company and customer "Support" Service! We will never book again with Auto Europe and will spread the negative word!

“Inclusive and transparency claims are very misleading.”

We rented a car for one day picking up at Manchester airport and dropping off at a different location. The quote given as an inclusive quote was around £26. However, when coming to enter payment details a one way charge of £36 was added plus VAT. There is no reason that this charge could not have been included in the original quote and the only reason that it is done this way is to cynically and deliberately catch people out. --Important One Way Information Certain restrictions may apply when picking up and dropping off at different locations, including additional fees. If the one way is permitted, we will contact you to advise of any restrictions and/or applicable fees. A voucher will also be sent for your review. You may cancel your reservation and receive a full refund if done so with 48h advanced notice.--

Auto Europe UK sell what they call a "Refundable Excess" insurance product (their T&Cs say it's not insurance, so they can avoid being regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority in the UK). In the event of a claim, they list amongst the information they require a "police report" (if the damage amounts to more than €300).
