Booked a Focus sized vehicle for 9 days in May 2013 from Alicante airport. We used them 2 years ago and had a good experience although I did not realise that my wife had accepted the compfort insurance for 70 euros back then. I booked them through Autoeurope and although Goldcar came up us cheaper plus a free extra driver I decided to go with recordgo. I hired a group D car for pickup at Malaga airport on the 10th March until the 03rd May, 54 days. I was given a ford focus with just 1500Kls on the clock. I had arrived at the car hire desk at 20;00, only one other customer at the desk and only had 10 minute wait before completing the paperwork. The cost of the hire was £272 paid in the Uk on CC and a further equivalent in euros of £213 for extra insurance I had to agree to because of my age, for inclusion of my wife on the hire agreement... Rented car from alicante airport in April for 7 days. Started of bad due to fact only half a tank of petrol in car. Had to wait till they brought another car about 40 minutes. 4 days later we came out to find WE had a flat tyre,changed it and took back to airport,they changed car over,said no problem.Then when we dropped it off when going home they called us into office and said they were charging us for the tyre and as they had our €400 deposit they would let us know the charge later on.... Have been back a week to find out recordgo has just charge me 94e for cleaning a car which they clean anyway. This was not discussed with me, and l had had the car a month. L had complained about the state of the car before l took it. We chose this company due to it's low price in car rental search engines. At arrival we found out that in addition to the already paid rental fee we'd have to pay for a mandatory tank of gas at €85! This is far more than the cost of filling up the Ford Fiesta and it's nothing but a rip off that enables them to have the lowest list price in search engines. Always have used GoldCar from Malaga Airport, with no problems, but thought I would try Record via DoYouSpain because of cost. Pre-booked a Seat Ibiza for 4 days (27-31st march 2013), and opted to pay the additional insurance to cover windscreen, undercarriage etc. If you do not pay for this, then they are entitled to debit your card 400 euros for any damage. Rented car for pickup at Malaga Airport via Holiday Autos - initial headline price for 1 week was £31. I opted for Holiday Autos insurance excess waiver - cost was an additional £35! At Record desk in airport I had to pay 81 euros for full tank of fuel and return it empty. Everything that you have nightmares about happened...so when I got an email from Record car hire a couple of days ago I was very pleased to read that they were giving me back the "over payment of the full tank racket". It has become fashionable for Car Rental Companies to hide costs within their fuel policy. Until a few years ago it was customary to return the car full, but now many rental agencies insist that you bring the car back empty. How is this possible? Without risking running out of petrol on the motorway to the airport? This policy is so customer-unfriendly that it stinks. I collected my car (A Nissan Micra) from Malaga airport. I gave it a quick look over and whilst it looked like it had had a hard life all seemed well. It wasn't until the next morning that when I went to the car I could see a bald patch on a section of the tyre. Hired a car from Record Go from Palma Airport in 2011. We picked up the car in a dark basement without any light. Clearly a strategy! After returning the car 1week later we were charged £400 for 'damage' to the car. After 2 letters to the Car Hire Website the £400 was returned. I hired a car in June 2012,at Malaga airport the vehicle had some damage front and rear I did not return to hire desk to have this noted as it was covered under terms of insurance. But I took photos clearly showing damage and in the pick-up bay, the following month I found they had fraudulently taken £560 from my credit card, claiming I had damaged the car I am now having to fight through the credit card company to have this money returned. I had the same problems as you discribe :They charged us tvice for full tank.
I have complainde but they refuses to refund. Now i hawe complaindet to European Consumer Centre Network. You can find them on the net. I recommend you to do the same.

A few years ago, we hired a car from Record Go (Mallorca). We arranged everything online and paid the full amount in advance with a credit card. Once we arrived, they needed our credit card for the insurance. (They don’t accept cash. Only credit cards.) Once home we’ve noticed they charged us the full cost for the car again. We prepaid on line and went to the booth to pick up the car and pay whatever other fees they would charge us, the people at the desk were extremely rude and non professional, I went with the confirmation nr on my iphone and then they tell me that is no good, they need a paper paper with the confirmation and they knowingly sent me upstairs (where there was internet)to forward my confirmation to them. This is the worst and most dishonest, uncaring car hire company you will ever come across. They have been illegally holding a 400 euro deposit of ours since 2nd September. The infuriating thing is that they will not answer our emails. The numbers advertised for customer services do not connect to any phone line. Just never, never hire a car with them. Totally agree! Long, long queue and complete rip-off and not even pleasant when we took car back cos we were told that if the car was not left in exactly the right place they would charge us extra!!! Would like to have told them what we thought but as they had my credit card details I thought better of it. Agree with Philip4010. Used RECORD GO October 2012. Tragic beyond words. Not only us but every single other customer I witnessed in the HOURS I was dealing with them had MAJOR PROBLEMS. If you're offered a car for free do not take it. If they pay you to take a car don't take it. Seriously they're that bad. I rarely bother to write reviews but these clowns are so bad folk should be warned.
AVOID RECORD GO car hire at Malaga. I was beginning to think I was on some secret Spanish 'You've Been Framed' or something.

Arrogant and rude man on the desk who said we had to pay a deposit of 400 Euros which could take up to 3 weeks to refund - if we returned the car without any damage. What more can I say!!!! The guy at the check-in desk was obnoxious, ignorant, arrogant and chauvenistic when dealing with my wife, who actually hired the vehicle. The vehicle was a disgrace!!! After waiting for about 1 hour and a half in the queue at the airport, the "Golf" I ordered transformed into an obsolete model Ford Focus with 96000km on the clock. It had so many dents and scratches it looked as if it had been previously used for stock car racing. OK they do say a car of similar size may be provided which is their get out clause. Just awful. Queued at Malaga for over two hours - almost longer than the flight from London to get there!! I thought at such a low price to hire the car for 10 days i had got a bargain, however nothing could be further from the truth. It's very very bad!!!!Don't rent a car by Record Go. The only thing you get by record car is a 'big mouth' from the employee. I'll paid for my car at home in Holland, but at Mallorca Record Go wouldn't give me car. They said Í had nog enough money on my creditcard. That wasn't through. I need a car, so I went to Sixt, they gave me a car in one minute with the same creditcard.

I've hired cars from Alicante for the last 7 years and all over Europe for years so am aware of the “pay for a tank of fuel” policy that many do – all at Alicante seem to. The principle is a good one as it saves you having to find a petrol station in a strange country when you just want to get going to your destination, but, yes the price is always high – but that is a standard in car hire I’m afraid all over Europe [including the UK] so I have to accept that as one of those things... kia small car hire. We collected the car from a very rude women at the reception desk. Went to get the car from very two unfriendly, unhelpful people at the car park. The car was covered in dents which they refused to come and mark off on the form so I took photos of the entire body. As I was staying in Deia, a very hilly place, I was really annoyed to find there was NO hand break at all. I had to park in gear and wedge a large stone under a wheel. Agree totally with thre review above - initially cheap quote more than doubled when you paid the extras for insurance and fuel

Totally agree with all this. Furthermore you will get charged 75€ for a tank of fuel in a Fiesta and I only managed 300 km !! That's 21 mpg from a diesel !! TOTAL RIP OFF
