Kia Rio hired for 3 days, Cost £150.00 The most expensive small car hire I have ever had. On pick up the company want to take a deposit of £1200 from your credit or debit card. This can be reduced by paying a daily fee, which effectively pushes the daily rate from £27 to £50.00 Not a nice surprise. Pick up time for a pre-booked car was around 35 mins. My travel companions and myself were very disappointed in how our Sixt representative walked us through certain parts of the contract at pick up. First, regarding gas. Our rep asked how far we would be driving, so we told him our route. He said we most definitely would be using a whole tank of gas. So we agreed to the prepaid full tank option. I returned the car in perfect condition and they gave me a slip saying I had been refunded the money on my credit card. After waiting 2 weeks there was still no refund of the deposit - i contacted Sixt and they said the money had been refunded - they sent me the slip saying a refund had been given . I ended up having to raise a dispute with the credit card company who then refunded my money. 2 weeks later - and 3 months after hiring the car the company - SIXT - JAPRAC rent a car took £32… Read Full Review

“queued for an hour and then lied to.”

Waited for 75 minutes to be served. Then endured a load of high pressure sales tactics to upgrade and buy extra insurance. Lie number 1, the diesel price in Portugal is not 55 cents per litre more than petrol, it is only 20 cents, so we did not need the 50 euro upgrade to diesel. Lie number 2, in the area we visited we did not need to visit a post office to pay road tolls, so glad we did not go for the 15 euro tolls registration that we were advised definitely needed. I pre booked a car online 2 days before I went to Malaga. Registered my licence and dos everything they asked to make sure the process was as quick and easy as possible. When I got there the staff were friendly and helpful overall took me 20 mins u too I had the car. I did panic a bit as there was a few dents on the car but when I went back to the check in desk the staff explained they were already on the invoice. BOTTOM LINE - rent from Enterprise. They actually cost less (for a bigger car) AND they do not have the "must have current license for 5 years" policy. STORY: Car was reserved for pickup @ Dublin airport via Ryanair services 30 days before travel to Ireland. 4 days prior to arrival, reviewed the reservation. Sixt contract states one must have driver's license for 5 years in order to rent. Horrible Internet or telephone service. Have to spend 30 minutes just trying to get a hold of them. Ordered a Mercedes and got a dirty car that was supposed to be a BMW but the trunk would not open, blinkers would not stop blinking and window washer and wipers would not stop as well. The Marriot Vacation Club hired a car for me for a few days from Sixt at Malaga Airport March 2016. The car was damaged when I picked it up at the airport and had misleading documentation which identified damage. No rep was there to check the documents at hire. But I assumed their documents were in order. On returning the car, I was told I had to pay for the damage even though I did not cause it resulting in a £300 excess. I have rented many, many cars in the US, and have never experienced anything like this horrible experience in Lisbon. I thought I should try a European vendor. What a BIG mistake! Sixt may be cheaper upon reservation, but they get you in the end. Next time I will use a more trustworthy car rental agency. Incidentally, the VISA slips say JAPRAC Rent A Car, not Sixt, so I think it is a franchise, but still, Sixt business practices. Scheme #1? I have hired a minibus for a short holiday! The vehicle was in a terrible state with huge dents and damages all over the bodywork! As I just left Edinburgh a lots of warning lights come on the dashboard and I had have no way than to cancel a few trips! When I dropped it off I was told that was okay,but later on they found further damages! How and where the God knows as it looked like it just come from the war zone! Living in London, I have no need to own a car. I always hire a car from Sixt whenever we venture out of the capital. I have used Vauxhall (now closed down), Wandsworth and now more recently the Victoria Branches to collect and return the cars. Every time over the last 15 years or so the staff have always been courteous, friendly and helpful. The cars are always clean and 1 year old. After over 10 rentals frequently renting cars I can surely Say Sixt is the most unethical company I've felt with. This is the only company that constantly find dodgy damages in the cars that are pretty difficult if not impossible to spot and you just can't prove they were already there! this practice is common and spread across several countries so clearly is a company policy. Please don't rent a car from these people. We got a anonymous fine sent to our email in German (we are not German or were not in Germany) with a fine for 'being in a bus lane'. Without asking they just took the money from our account and added a processing few that was more expensive than the fine! We didn't even know till we checked the account. Beware, Sixt in Geneva added a very high service charge, in addition to the fuel top-up fee, as a result of taking the vehicle back with a not completely full tank. Hired a car for skiing from Marseille airport. Was concerned car might not be big enough for the money paid. Turned out to be plenty of room. Minor quibble over paying €38 for a booster seat for the week and snow chains being a bit puny. However car was very clean and comfortable. Staff pointed out the one minor scratch. “SIXT PALMA AIRPORT - AVOID LIKE THE PEST”

Staff just plain rude. They just do the strict minimum required. Don't bother hiring a TOMTOM, they don't work. Don't bother hiring a OPEL CORSA, it has this feature that requires using the clutch before you can start the car. It's OK if you know, it's not if you don't. You are stranded.
