“SIXT ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Journey302 on 26/01/2024

SIXT  - BEWARE - DO NOT USE We realised the car was in a shoddy state half way into our journey when the warning light came on to tell us there was too much engine oil and it needed to be reduced, plus found out when it started raining that the drivers windscreen wiper rubber was half hanging off and didnt clear the screen so pretty dangerous and should not have been rented out in that state - we later noticed that this was listed on the damages when we picked the car up so they obviously dont fix anything even for safety of the next driver. Didnt really use the car much while we were there as we was worried it may blow up and no chance of getting much help over the Christmas holidays so kept driving it to a minumum. We returned the car to Salzburg airport before the agreed 12pm drop off time, put the key in the drop box and went up to the Sixt counter to tell them we have dropped it off and to mention the wiper and the oil warning light, the man gave us a slimy smile and said 'you will get your deposit back in a few days'. No apology for the renting us a non-safe car. 3 days later we get an email saying we have incurred an extra days rental as it was dropped off at 1.34pm and also an invoice for over 500 for a >3cm dent in the rear driver door with paint damage. The picture they sent with this was one of the dashboard where it stated it was 1.34pm (the time they checked over it - not when we dropped it off) and also a picture of a tiny black mark which they say is paint damage and would cost over £500 euros to repair, this so called dent is clearly not a dent and is a black mark roughly 0.5cm that would wipe off with a bit of soap and water and was not paint damage as the car was white so no way would Volkswagen use black primer under white paint. The previous damages also mentioned that there was a 3cm dent on the rear driver door but no sign of that one in the picture they sent and theres no way that they can say it was fixed as they didnt bother replacing a simple wiper rubber plus repairs would all be done after the car lease is up so where are all the (over 40) listed damages from that list because we never noticed any of them, the car looked brand new. The car was still dirty in their photo and there was no sign on the picture that they had even tried wiping the black mark off. Complete sham - I have seen thousands of reviews where people are being tricked in exactly the same way. Whatever you do DO NOT USE SIXT - EVER!! They need to be shut down and their staff need to learn some manners and be taught the difference between a dent and a bit of dirt. The emails from them are rude and arrogant, invoices are all in German. DO NOT USE!!!

“Worst rental service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LaineyMedeiros on 10/12/2023

We phoned and payed extra to allow for us to use the car from England to NI. On picking the car told tha cars are not insured out of the island even though it's all GB this we cannot take the car out of the island. Explained that we only need the car for tha reason this don't want it. Refused refund as prepaid refused to change the booking so we can use on another trip. This was meant to be family reunion after a bad COVID. They are bad, that will do anything to trick money out of you. Be careful of their small print. There in desk customer service is also super rude and unhelpful. Don't believe what they say on the phone and never ever pre book it's their way of taking Ur money.

“Rented a car in Southampton. Brought it back in...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ander123 on 16/10/2023

Rented a car in Southampton. Brought it back in perfect condition. They claim there was damage to the driver side bonnet in an area that is impossible to have scratched and supposedly down to primer. 5-10cm!!!! They provided no proof of these damages to me after multiple requests. They have no live person to speak to about damages. I know for a fact I didn't damage the vehicle. They are now telling me they will be charging my card for £971.06 and there is nothing I can do about it to dispute it. Nobody I can talk to. They have not provided any proof of damages they are claiming. This is a completely tricking honest people. Stay away. You have been warned.

“No breakdown assistance”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ivordring on 13/09/2023

Hired a Volkswagen for the weekend From Sixt at Catania Airport. The 24 hour emergency phone number given by them to call in the event of a breakdown. Did not work. It was switched off. Having tried several times we phoned our hotel and they tried for us but confirmed that the number was switched off. We were stuck on the motorway exit where there is neither footpath or hard shoulder. We were trapped in a very dangerous situation. Vehicles were coming at us at high speed round a bend. Only having tried several different ways to contact Sixt, we eventually got someone in Germany by selecting the "new booking" option, from their website. There was no breakdown or emergency option. After hanging up on us 3 times, They told us to contact the police. By offering to pay myself we were eventually able to get assistance from a local breakdown vehicle. It took nearly 4 hours for a rescue. Ruining the day and traumatising us. Next day Sixt tried to deny there was an incident and that their 24 hour emergency number did work. It was by far the most expense but the other companies had run out of cars. And their emergency number only works during office hours. Hire your car with someone else

“Do Not use Sixt”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Hectorq14 on 08/09/2023

1 star only because I can't choose 0. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Hire cost may look less than others, until you turn up to collect the car!. They will fleece your credit card. Book a car with them, turn up, they find grey areas to make you upgrade or add drivers . When you return the car, they find further existing damage and claim it against you, whilst old damage hasn't been fixed. You won't be able to stop them taking the claimed money as they have your credit card number and you signed a contract. We even tried blocking the payment direct with our credit card and they still took the money. Disgusting company and downright unlawful practices and damage claims. Don't use them. It will cost you in the long run

“Worse rental company ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Georgemccorkell on 29/06/2023

I rented a car from Sixt with my family from 9th June to 27th June. Second day in the car got two punctures - no spare tyre in the back, no tyre sealant, no jack, no safety equipment absolutely nothing. My wife, 2 year old and 4 year old were left on the side of the road for 5 hours whilst I had to find somebody with a pump nearby who could put enough pressure in the tyres to drive to local town to get the tyres mended - Sixt offered to replace the tyres at local Kwik Fit but offered no assistance whatosever in how I was supposed to get there without spare tyre or any equipment! Over the whole period the trip we covered about 1,000 miles - at the end of the journey Sixt charged me an additional GBP 5,000 for excess mileage covered claiming I had travelled 7,400 miles during my time with the car - the equivalent of driving from London to Edinburgh every day, for the whole 18 days!

“Falsely accused of damage”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Pollockma179 on 19/05/2023

I rented a van from Sixt in North Wembley for 5 hours, as usual the vans are always damaged and the customer has to note any damages before the vehicle leaves the compound, which i did. The van was returned and to my suprise i got an email from Sixt informing me that there was NEW damage that hadn't been documented by the damage department. Before you send out incriminated emails check your facts and go back to checking the vehicles with the customer before the vehicle leaves your premises. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICES FROM THE WEMBLEY BRANCH, NEVER RETURNS CALLS AND UNHELPFUL

“Avoid this company at all costs!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Donaldsonjq416 on 11/05/2023

Absolutely terrible experience from start to finish. We arrived at the branch to be told that they were closing at 12pm even though our email said 5pm. Another gentleman had also had the same information and turned up late so we weren’t the only ones. The staff member on site was helpful enough, but didn’t tell me NOT to leave my personal vehicle (rented a van for a house move), didn’t inspect the vehicle with us and didn’t explain extra charges. Asked by multiple staff members to leave a 5* review. The van itself was ok, the oil light was on when we set off but the staff member had already started packing stuff away ready for him to lock up. We were told that cctv wasn’t checked and we could return the van later than than the hire time of 5pm. The move took longer than expected and we arrived back at 9pm. My personal car was blocked in by other returned vehicles. I tried multiple times to contact the company and was told that I had no other choice but to drive the 80 miles home and drive back again in the morning. The area is notorious on a night time for prostitution and illegal behavior and being told that it was my own fault by the customer service team while trying to keep my elderly mother and children calm was not helpful. on returning the van the next morning I was assured as a gesture of goodwill that extra charges would be wavered and a staff member would call me the following day. I have not received the phone call and I was charge the extra charges which have hopefully, after yet another phone call, been refunded. Do NOT recommend and will NOT be using again.

“Dodgy charges after rental ended”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 27/04/2023

Arrived in UK on April 2nd for a 22-day hire, having fully paid for the rental in advance. I thought for the time we had the car (22 days) the cost was fairly reasonable. Before they would release the car, I was required to pay an additional 330GBP bond which I was not told about in advance. Paid this and honestly the car was fine. Clean, as advertised, full tank etc. 100% no problems with the vehicle. Returned it, received the return email saying no extra damage and that it had a full tank and thought no more of it. 5 Days later find an extra unauthorized charge on my card (They had held onto my card details without my knowledge it appears) which the banks says is already processed so I need to chase sixt for a refund. Sixt have not told me what it is for and have not returned my bond or acknowledged they have it on their ''final invoice''. Would not recommend or use again.

“Do not use ”

Only use them if you don’t mind erroneous charges aprearing on your credit card after you returned the car and then having to spend months trying to get your money back. Be warned - don’t use them.

“Terrible”

★☆☆☆☆

written by marky_mark on 30/01/2023

Definitely do not use them. I booked a car online and when I picked it up at Porto airport, an extra charge of over €150 had been added to the bill. I was assured that money would be refunded based on the amount of fuel that was in the car when I returned it (charged at local prices). I asked for confirmation at least twice, and the message was repeated back to me by the Sixt representative. I returned the car with over half a tank of petrol in it - but no refund. I complained in writing. Sixt took a long time to reply. They do not deny that I was assured that a refund would be made. But they say that their rules (which they have not shown me) say something else. Despicable behaviour. I asked for clear confirmation from the representative because I suspected that they were going to sham me. I didn't think that they would behave so badly after giving me these assurances. Never again.

“Unable to pick up car due to proof of addresss!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Elliottmn138 on 04/01/2023

Having hired cars around the world, I turn up at SIXT London Heathrow T5 to pick up the car this morning 4th Jan 2023 after a 13 hour flight and they would not allow me to hire it without 2 x proof of address within last 3 months! I am a UK driving license and house owner and a resident of Dubai, so I could have done it either way with credit cards, banks. They stoped me using the tourist method because I had no flight back to dubai. When I eventually dug out 3 proofs of address, one was within 3 months and the other 2 just over. They refused point blank. I have NEVER come cross this in in my life, even their confirmation email says bring credit card you paid along with license and passport. Nothing else! I had to go back to T5 log on to cafe wifi and book Alamo wait for another shuttle bus, but this time it was a breeze, straight in and car ready, no pedantic, no issue with my credentials. I would NOT risk using SIXT your plans could be in tatters and they smiled without a care in the world that your booking is not possible. Still waiting for the refund!

“Worst service ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Curtis432 on 05/12/2022

Worst ever service from car rental staff at Sixt St Pancras in April. Booked and paid in advance for 27-day rental, but when I and my disabled wife arrived was told they could not accept temporary licence even when accompanied by full licence due to expire in 8 days, notwithstanding their international website stating temp license would be acceptable if accompanied by expired full license. Staff were extremely contemptuous. Took 42 days to refund rental. Most serious problem was aggressive language of ladies behind counter. A family friend received exactly the same treatment at Sixt St Pancras a few weeks later. I hire cars for a total of about 20 weeks in UK every year. Will never go near this firm again. I received excellent service from Sixt in Orebro in Sweden in July last year, so maybe the problem is confined to the UK…

“Rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Simpsonge326 on 28/06/2022

I recently rented from Argus / sixt in dublin Drove the renault clio out of dublin airport and soon realised there was an issue with the steering … it was pulling hard to the left Onto the freeway and as i accelerated there was violent intermittent steering wheel shake. I managed to get to Mayo and checked in Hotel … next day was a quiet day and no driving . Got in car following day and it was the same … i called sixt and they sent a chap to try to fix it … we tested it. Together on the car park and he could see there was an inbalance … so he took it for a drive … he returned and told me in needed urgent repair and not to drive it any long distance - and i would get a call … he was about to leave and a lady called me .. she told me thw mechanic had suggested it needed minor work - i had heard there entire conversation and minor was not in it !! Mechanic was still there so i asked him again whilst on the phone to sixt and he said it needed urgent repair … she tried to get me to drive it to a garage - i explained that i was on vacation and i needed a rental car available and i was not prepared to drive it - that was her job not mine …! I agreed to let them take it for repair … they picked it up on a loader and returned it that evening “fixed” it was slightly better but still shaking and it drove like a crab still . My wife was screaming at me to stop and we ended up with a compromised vacation Finally got this disaster of a car back to dublin and dropped it off .. I told the sixt guy “please do not let this car go out again - it is a danger” his reply was based on what i may have done to it - but when i explained he just said “reault clio - they are rubbish - always the same” not really what i wanted to hear …. I have been renting holiday vehicles for over 30 years and this was so far the worst ever experience- just want to forget it … I did fill in the online review but no reply from u on that… i lost 1/2 a day car use and 5 days of danger...rubbish company

“Complete disregard for customers”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Slee2626 on 31/05/2022

We hired a car from Sixt for our holiday about a month in advance. When we went to collect the car it turned out all their systems were down and had to use a manual method for card payments. We tried various cards and none worked, so we called our banks and credit card companies but all said the manual process that Sixt were using was not secure which is why they couldn't be paid. Turns out that this was a common problem that had been ongoing for 2 weeks, however they decided not to tell customers in advance. Why? Well because then they'd lose all money when customers cancelled and used someone else, whereas instead they waited to see whose money they could take and anyone they couldn't they just abandoned. We offered multiple solutions including paying cash, leaving card details and paying when systems were up etc. But they just didn't care. We were left standed at faro Airport on our first family holiday with a 4 year old and 5 month old for over 3 hours trying to get another car along with multiple other customers who were all in the same position. I will accept technical difficulties happen, however I will not accept that any company can show complete disregard for their customers with no alternative proposal given. I highly recommend staying far away from this company.

They are definitely a car rental company, you pick your rental car up from their SIXT depot/office, and I have always been able to select the exact vehicle I wanted.

Sixt are the actual car hire company and just for your information, I had a pleasant and problem free experience with them.
