Good Points: None
Bad Points: No staff to check the car when it was returned.Subsequently billed £170 for damage to the car even though I checked it myself and found no damage.
General comments: I hired a car from Europcar at Manchester airport.
When I returned the car no staff were on duty to check the car. I checked the car myself and found no damage. I returned the keys to the desk. The guy behind the counter seemed upset that I had interrupted his mobile phone call. A week later I received a letter informing me that I had been charged £170 for damage with no explanation. I phoned I was told there was a scratch on the car.
I had insurance for excess from Easycar hire so I can claim it back, but there was no damage to the car and they made no effort to contact me inform me of charges despite having all me contact details.
I will avoid Europcar in future.

Reasonable car, reasonable staff at Grenoble. Booking Europcar through EasyJet isn't sufficiently cheaper for me to put up with this again! 10 minutes hunting for the car - why can't they put numbers on the spaces? Had to go back and tell them about several bits of damage to the car - they clearly don't bother themselves, or are they hoping to charge me for it? On the motorway, lots of salty spray but nothing in the windscreen washer!!! Only one petrol station near the airport at Grenoble, and ...

Europcar charged me for a PCN even though I had paid for the congestion charge. They have admitted their error - that the Waterloo office forgot to process the CC - but I have been trying to get a refund from them ever since. Even the Manager of Customer Services has been of no help!

I used them almost weekly a few years ago as part of a company deal. They were apallingly bad. Oddly enough, I had much better experience with Europcar in Heathrow,.
Anyway this time I just needed an extra car for a few days, and I booked a car at EasyJet's car rental service, which uses Europcar. I picked it up a Tues evening, and as the car court is quite dark at Gatwick, you have got NO CHANCE to do a proper visual inspection yourself. The staff is aware of this, and often allows you to call ...

I have just had a big problem with Europcar . I booked a car on line through a link after booking a hotel and pre paid a month in advance. When I arrived to pick up my car I was subject to an interrogation as to how I had got this booking , did I work for the hotel , did I have a company card, e.t.c. It was obvious they did not like the rate.
The duty Manager wanted me to pay additional insurance as she said the rental only included third party insurance, ( I am not talking about a CDW as I had ...

We hired a car in Geneva (French side) on the 29th December for a week. I had booked an Estate car with no excess insurance through a broker so was not particularly happy when given a Peugeot 207. There were four of us with ski gear so you can appreciate the squeeze. The rude and arrogant attendant told us we would have to make do as they had no other cars. Unfortunately she had taken the voucher we had from us so we had no contact details for the broker so indeed had to make do and took the ...

We rented a car in Darwin Australia in Dec 2007. We paid in full. We were advised by the kind customer service person we had 5000 km free. We returned to NZ and 10 days later we found our bank account debited (without authorisation from us) for a further AUD300. We emailed Europcar to investigate this. On first contact Europcar confessed to knowing nothing about the charge, they requested we fax them copies of our bank account, which we did. Then we were told it was due to extra mileage. We ...

I had a car booked on the 27th of November for collection at Cancun airport. When I arrived they tried to charge me for an extra $160 and tried to persuade me to sign for insurance upgrades.
When I asked to phone the Europcar HQ they claimed the phone didn't work.In my opinion, it seems that they have low prices on the internet to draw in business.

If you have any intelligence at all DO NOT HIRE A CAR FROM EUROPCAR!
We have hired twice from them and twice have had problems. The first time hired a car to go from London to Edinburgh. We asked the staff in London to show us the best and easiest way to get out of London as we weren't from there. they got out a map and drew on it the route we should take - up oxford St. we queried whether or not you were allowed to drive up there (we had paid congestion, but weren't sure about taxi/bus/cont ...

There was a problem with our car after 2 days and so we swapped. The first car was towed away and we later got a refueling bill for 62 litre's (around 600 miles) - even though the final bill showed our total mileage for both cars was only 466 miles!! We're still fighting...

Go straight back to the office if there's ANY un-noted damage or the fuel needle isn't where the form says it is. Don't leave the car with them without a receipt, confirming time of return, fuel state and no additional damage. If it doesn't say this, ask for a signed note from the branch manager. This means lots of time, so arrive early if you have a flight to catch. I wouldn't use them if it weren't for our company discount, however on their latest overcharging fiasco I'm likely to go elsewhere ...

Me and my boyfriend booked and paid weeks in advance for a rented car to be picked up at Malpensa Airport, Milan, with Europcar. When we got to the airport we went straight to the Europcar office, there was a small queue of more or less 4 or 5 people in front of so we thought that it would not have taken long, but we were proved wrong as it took ages (from 12 o'clock till 13.45) for the three employees to deal with them. In the mean time none came out to explain why it was taking so long to do w ...

Car rented with Europcar was not uplifted when it was meant to be. I had to phone the depot to ask them to pick it up.
Deposit which was paid by Debit Card has still not been refunded more than three weeks after the end of the hire despite numerous calls. I was finally told yesterday that no deposits for hires that ended on 1st to 4th October have been refunded due to a banking problem!
Customer Services agents have been generally very unhelpful and have failed to deliver good customer ser ...

Too bad I read the negative reviews for Europcar AFTER finding out the hard way that they are run by con artists! I rented a car through holidayautos.com, paid upfront, and picked up the car in Malaga, Spain with no problem. The car was fine, clean. I drove to Madrid where I had arranged to drop it off at the airport before catching a flight. The drive took longer than planned so by the time my husband and I arrived to the airport we were pressed for time to catch our flight. Of course there was ...

Picked car up at East Mids Airport and dropped it off at Newcastle. Apart from them now charging a one-way hire charge, which they never used to, they also made a £8.05 charge for which I know nothing about. There is no-one at the airport to receive the car but the fuel tank was full (apart from that used to drive from the nearest petrol station (2-3 miles) and there was no damage to the car.
The Customer Services email address on the website doesn't work so I sent an email to another ema ...

I booked a hire car to be picked up at Bergerac Airport in May 2007. The hire was arranged through Novacarhire and the car supplied by Europcar France. I booked the car in February and I paid for optional excess insurance at that time. When I picked up the car at Bergerac Airport, I made it clear that I did not want other excess insurance. When I returned the car, without any damage, I was told that everything was OK and my credit card account would be charged the amount I had been quoted , 254 ...

We rented a car in Avignon France through Europcar. An amount of 900 euro was taken as a deposit on 21 September 2007, on my wife's visa card. The total amount for renting the car was 185 euro. It is now the 7th of October 2007 and the authorisation of euro 900 is still noted as an outstanding card authorisation thus we can't use our funds.

Only 6 auto's on site at Europcar Edinburgh Rail Station. So we had to walk to a nearby city car park and walk up and down the rows hitting the open button looking for the auto that flashed it lights at us. After 45 minutes of dragging our luggage (large lot & 4 stories!) a Europcar van pulled over & helped us look. In Dublin we waited 2 hours, 45 minutes for an intermediate auto (we had a reservation!). Employee refused to believe that our Mastercard would cover insurance (we checked before the ...

Booked a car for my vacation in July on Rhodes, Greece, through Auto-Europe. Paid extra for excess waiver and signed the deposit before seeing the car at Europcar at the airport. Drove from the north of the island to Pefkos (relatively flat) with no problem. Next day travelling to the beach the car would not engage gear. A duplicate car was sourced at Europcar in Pefkos for the rest of the term. On the same day that the car broke down Europcar, left me a note at my hotel saying that repairs to t ...
