NEVER hire a car from Europcar! An absolutely terrible service.
The car hire ended up costing more than the holiday.
When we booked the car hire we thought we'd paid for everything in advance through the travel agent but ended up being charged at the airport for two types of extra insurance, totaling up to an extra £185. We also left a fuel deposit of £70, which there was no record of when we came to return the car so we lost that too. Never agin would I go with Europcar. I was utterly appalled at the service. It ruined a perfectly good holiday as we were left with hardly any money for the whole week. A total rip off.

I come to visit La Paz Mexico frequently. I usually rent a car to get around from any of the American Rental Companies located at the airport. This time I saw a bargain on Orbitz for Europcar. I made the booking.

Picked up the car at the airport, went over the car with the attendant and a check list of damages, as I pointed out the multitude of dings and scratches I assumed the guy was writing them all down too...

After 3 days I decided to return the car because the cigarette lighter quit work ...

Booked and prepaid on line, 6 months before holiday.
Office very very busy and only one girl on the desk. She DID speak really good English, so i was relaxed and thought it would all go without a hitch.
We'd taken only MY credit card to France - but car booked in husband's name- Europcar asked for my license details as well, and said that then the credit card/driver difference wouldn't matter. She then asked me to sign "here, here and here" - so I did!! VERY VERY BAD. I feel I was tricked in ...

On arriving at Shannon Aiport, we waited 25 minutes for a bus to take us to the car, the car was badly damaged along one side, it had not been noted and it was as well that we checked it ourselves. On returning the car there was nobody at the depot to return it to and no mention where we were supposed to take it, we eventually read another hires details.the charges that we agreed to and paid for on the internet were nothing like the chages that our account was debited with. the amont was taken o ...

I pre-booked a small van for a day hire at a quoted 40.25 euros daily rate, this morphed into a total of 109.71 euros with CDW insurance and other sundry extra charges and insurances, but not to worry you live and learn.
I was sent to pick up and check the vehicle from reception unaccompanied, the sheet detailed no panel damage and only one small scratch, the reality however was somewhat different with dents, scratches and other defects which took me twenty minutes to list, after which back to r ...

I booked a 12 seater van for Queenstown NZ through their website and paid a deposit with my credit card. When I arrived I was told they had over booked and could not supply the vehicle. I requested a refund of the deposit. I was told they had not received the money and that I had paid it to IMall. I was told I would have to talk to them and that they had no connection whatsoever with IMall. I am now going through my credit card company to reverse the payment. I found their service appalling, the ...

MPV Ford galaxy. Arrived late, without the European package we requested so delayed our departure. Lots of sctratches. Failed to refund money to bank account had to be chased with several calls, then stopped us £30 petrol money for the already pre paid delivery and collection. I was told it was in the terms and conditions, it was, but in very small print and not mentioned at all when booking or delivered. Beware of very sharp practice. Would never use again.

HIGHLY recommend for anyone who wants to save money on car rentals!

First off, very important you do your home work!
    1) If the Fuel was fuel return it full
    2) Know about the tax's, e.g. Airport tax, road tax etc.
    3) Return the car on time or sooner
    4) Recommend to get a police report for accidents or vandalism.
    5) Recommend to use a Credit Card, some card like Visa preferred will cover additional costs. Worth looking into.
    6) Know you coverage, Collision, fire and theft liability.
    7) Confirm ...

I would have given 0 out of 5 if it was possible!

Hired car from Europcar in Aug 09 and everything seemed fine on arrival. Got given an Inisgnia which was an upgrade on the Fiat we had booked. Little did we know this was all part of the scam.

The car had 3/8ths of a tank of petrol and this was documented on our receipt and we were told to return it with the same level of petrol.

Insignia is useless for driving in Tuscany as the roads have 180 degree bends and you can't see anything out of the ...

Hired a car to drive to Melbourne from Sydney. We picked up the car and gave it a quick check over and everything seemed fine. After 150km or so of motorway driving we noticed a crack appearing from the bottom right-hand corner of the car. We stopped as soon as was safe and checked it and it appeared that the crack had come from underneath the bonnet where we could see.

We then phoned Europcar for advice and was told that we could either pay for it to get fixed ourselves, including having it to ...

Just plain dire to deal with. Europcar are Watch out for extras and we didn't get the car we ordered. They said we could call back and change our car (it was covered in scratches and scrapes when we picked it up)but wouldn't. Their customer services 'lady' was rude, sarcastic and unpleasant so I can only warn you to try some of the others, but be aware that they are a group and several 'names' are in the one office, so escaping them might not be so easy. Dealing with them has been the worst expe ...

Don't use Europcar. They may seem cheaper than Budget or National or Avis. The final charges you incurred could be as much as you would spend going with the national brands. We reserved a minivan for 6 people and paid for a Renault Scenic equivalent but was given a Toyota Versa which sits 6 people utilizing the truck space, leaving us with barely any room for luggages. so we got a car that is lower category than what we paid for and for what we got we could have paid USD 200.00 less. On top of t ...

Actually the vehicle was not really poor as it was not even there.

Arriving at 11.30 pm at Gatwick I was told that the car I had pre-booked was not available. There were at least 20 other customers who also had no vehicles. The Europcar staff had no idea when cars would be available and we were told to go away and make other arrangments. Subsequently the customers services line is too busy (has been for 72 hours ) to get through.

    Complete shambles

Emailed them and still have not had a rep ...

Europcar are completely incompetent, had a terrible time with them, they have taken over £500 from account "Computer Glitches" then they refunded it, then they took more money (illegally), then passed my personal bank details onto a 3rd party without my permission "by error", also charged me twice for VAT (computer glitch yet again), spoke to someone who said she had absolutely no idea how to solve any of my issues as their head office is in france ....... absolute bunch of cowboys.

Phoned up for prices and managed to get a great deal on a Fiat Grande Punto 5dr on a months hire, although I had the full intention to haggle for an upgrade. Pre-paid on the phone and got it even cheaper. Arrived to collect the vehicle, and was upgraded automatically as they didn't have much stock. Got a Vauxhall Astra 1.9 SRI in Black which looked great, albeit it was a bit older than the other cars in there and had done 17000 miles. Few scratches and scuffs, all pre-noted and checked off durin ...

Recently hired a car from Europcar. at Alicante airport
Kia Picanto, ordered a Citroen c2.
Had to sign for car unseen.
Every panel damaged including roof, many not shown on hire form.
Aircon ineffective and poor performance from car if used.
Charged 49 euros for tank of fuel, tank is 32 litres when drained plus 16 euros for refuelling.
Max charge should be 30' not 49'
Not mentioned when booking. Tried to sell me insurance against 540 euro excess.
Finally they charged my card in pounds at a lower ...

I would not recommend europcar under any circumstances to anybody. I made my booking online 2 months before our holiday. Our flight was to land in Pisa airport at 11.25pm so I put down 12.15am for collection to be sure and had no problem paying the after hours fee. I was five months pregnant at the time travelling with my husband and 2 year old and when we arrived to collect our car we were told the booking had been cancelled because there was no flight no on the booking for after hours, someth ...

We rented a car this summer. The car had some damages which were not listed in our contract. So we had to make some photos and go back to office desk to amend the contract. EUROPCAR lady said the car is diesel. On the last day of rental we refilled the tank before returning the car. After 2 minutes of driving the car broke down. It had to be taken to peugeot garage for repair. Yesterday we received an invoice for £389 which we taken from our credit card. Now they are saying that car was ...

Had to wait 3 hrs in the sun with the temperature over 30 C without any supplied food or water for a pre-booked car at Europcar. Then told we had been upgraded to a smaller Peugeot 206 from a fiesta. After this we had another 30 mins waiting for the car to be brought round for us to take. When we returned the car after the week there was another queue waiting in the sun. The car did its job but the Europcar service is awful

I have hired cars on numerous occaisions from various locations around the world. Arrived on a Sunday at Geneva Airport, first problem is no obvious signage to direct you to the French vehicle collection area, after turning up at the Swiss Eurocar, they gave cursory directions to the French collection area. After half an hour, finally tracked this down to find a single rep and queue of 7 people and took a hour to receive attendance with no apology for the delay. On returning the car on a Satu ...
