“Very expensive options”

The staff are friendly but very aggressive about upgrades, must be on commission. Told upgrade would cost 570 in total instead of 300, not told that would be added to the original 300 for a total of 870+ Asked for Saturday to Saturday got phone call on Friday and said I was late, another 100+. “Stay clear from Europcar....Shady bussiness”

Rented on line to receive 5% discount. Car was totally paid for before my arrival( 1400.00). Received new card from my bank day before leaving for Italy. Had old card with me to prove it. Europcar refused to honor my contract. They said i would be receiving a refund and they drew up a new contract. I'm a travel agent and I will never book Europcar anymore! Had a really bad experience...rented a car only for a day with 2 colleagues and paid for premium insurance to avoid any surprise! When returned the car at London Heathrow branch they refused to check the car in front of me...as result being charged £60 for a vehicle cleaning with no reasons. “No Good”

Funny reading this as had an experience a few years ago on our honeymoon of all things. Hired a car through Thomas cook and paid all upfront with the paperwork to prove it. On arrival they asked for a £150 deposit. We thought this odd but paid in good faith. At the end they refused to give it back saying we had not paid a deposit and took no notice of our receipt. avoid at all costs, we got all the documents they requested and more but when we tried to collect our car they said we had to pass a security test which was 3 questions on our credit score............ one was what bank account did you open 13 years ago??? we have changed banks many times so who knows. they refused to hire us a car and would not give a refund. No stars would be my rating. Never before had had such a bad experience with a car rental company (and I rent car quiet often). Arrived in Paris and they did not have the type car I had paid for. After a 4 hour wait, was downgraded to a much much smaller car and was not reimbursed for the gross cost difference - plus all the poor treatment. “Beware of hard sell to upgrade”

We were strongly advised at Europcar (Manchester airport) to upgrade to a diesel car at pounds 15 per day plus VAT on the basis diesel was much cheaper than petrol and we would save lots of money on efficiency also over a 12 day hire. This proved to be totally inaccurate and, in our opinion, dishonest. On the booking Europcar stated to bring the Credit or Debit card the car was booked with when picking up. At Beauvais airport Europcar said I HAD to buy the extra insurance because I was paying with a Credit card. “Always extra to pay with insurance”

I hired a car from Kingston upon thames. Booked online. when I went to collect car I was advised to take out better insurance which was virtually the cost of the car. I was told I could return the car earlier which I did by 3 days but having paid £250 for the cheapest car I only saved £20!! The couple before had booked online and paid extra insurance but they were advised to pay more to cover tyres and windscreen. To me this insurance is a money maker for them. Received a Fiat 500X as a hire car while my motability car was in for repair. Before I could use it I had to get rid of a dirty coffee mug that was rolling around in the rear nearside footwell and half a rotten banana from the driver side rear footwell. The exterior of the car was dirty but they did leave me a printed note apologising for the condition of the outside - their pressure washer wasn't working but assuring me the interior had been cleaned. Hired a car at Newquay Airport booking online for £133.92, in long queue to get to booking desk. Asked for an extra day, around £20. First attempt charged for roadside assistance on the form, form returned. 2nd form subsequently omitted the extra day but added an excess at £19 a day which I did not spot in the queue frustrations. Hired a car from Putney Bridge for 10 days from the off there office stank of mold and mildew,, the wait to collect was long people before us we're huffing and puffing, one guy had to cancel one meeting whilst in the que. our car goes back tomorrow with no damage at all and a full tank of petrol but the whole 10 days we've had the car it stank of petrol we bought air freshener but this did not help our luggage has had to be washed as the smell is in our clothes. I rented a car from them in Salalah airport, Oman. The agreement was for 3 days but they charged me for 4 days. Their reason was I returned the car more than 30 mins after it was due for return. The form I received from them clearly mentioned time out 4pm and time in 5pm yet they insisted their policy is 29 minutes grace period. I have always rented from them be it from UAE or Oman. Rented a car from Edinburgh Waverly and when arrived was told that the Fiat 500 I had selected was not safe for a 'lady' driving on the highways as its a 'city car' and had a really small gas tank - man insisted I'd be scared to run out of gas and pressured me into a larger car, at a higher cost. Disgusting service. Car hired for 3 days was only available for 3 hours. STOP message came on about 5 km after leaving Orly airport. Managed to get to cusp met and arranged for tow truck. Concluded lack of coolant, no leak do must have been dispatched like that. Car taken away but did not get promised call from Europcar. Rented a car a few weeks ago, and not only I suffered a super slow service, but also we had some issues with the booking. Apparently they don't like bookings through third party resellers, and didn't accept our full (all covered) insurance, claiming that we would have to pay if there was any issue with the car, and then ask for a payback to the third party company. I booked a Fiat 500 through Easyjet who use Europcar as a partner for holiday and flight bookings. The flight and car were booked in February 2016 for a holiday to Pompeii in late June 2016. I booked online the smallest car possible, a small Fiat,for 3 day hire from the Bath branch. I arrived half an hour early to find several others collecting and returning cars. Both the girls behind the desk were extremely polite,helpful and very patient especially with 2 ladies who were not sure about several aspects of the hire due to limited English on their part .
