When I got the car at Fiumicino airport in Rome I did not think about checking carefully for exterior damage, the car looked OK and I was in a hurry. The car was left in the Villa Borghese parking for 3 days. When I got it back at the airport they told me there was a scrath on ther front bumper and took 50 euros out of my credit card account. Booked car on internet before picking up in Fuerteventura. It was a 'pick up full and drop off empty'. Expected to pay a bit more than it costs at petrol station (usually approx 35 euros), but 89 euros for a Fiat Panda! and we didnt use half of it as we were only there a few days. Total rip off. Three times in a row they have taken money from my account for no reason after my rental. This is nothing short of theft! I'm amazed that a company with such a policy is allowed to operate. Surely there are regulators who should be able to stop this practice? (read more)

This was the second time I had hired a car from Europecar. The first time in Durban and the second in Johannesburg. In both instances I filled the vehicle up before returning it and in both instances they charged me for fuel again. I kick up a stink the first time and they eventially refunded me, but this time they did not as I had lost my fuel slip. Rented a car in Leeds, car was fine and had no problems. We returned the car and had to leave it in the carpark and drop the keys of at the desk, tank was full and no damage. A few days later we got charged 75 euro's for damage, there was a scratch on the door. We are sure we didnt damage the car and it could have happened after we dropped it, if it happened at all. When I collected the car, I was not aware, neither was I made aware that an additional driver was not included in the booking rate. In addition I was charged 157 GBP for a fine, hardly visible mark on the car's left door. I find totally unreasonable. We hired a car for 4 days to drive around Tuscany. The car was in good condition but had a lot of scratches on it that we had to point out to the staff in Florence as they had signed it off as perfect condition. Upon leaving Florence there was a big marathon taking part in the city and in the street where we picked up the car. Palermo airport, 4/2013. Car rental costed 400€ at the time of reservation. At the time of pickup, they wanted to reserve 800€ exactly on my credit card. I didn't have enough headroom on this very card. They refused to accept any other means of reservation or modify the reservation. "It's your fault, mister." Sinister kanister. Every was going well, was asked if I wanted to upgrade the insurance at £15 a day for the 3 days down in Bristol. I said no. Found out later on when invoice was e-mailed that I was charged for the extra insurance and since going through their appalling complaints procedure I have been declined any refund as I signed the rental agreement. it was their operatives mistake and I am paying for it. We booked a car from Edinburgh Waverley station for 3 days, and were very happy with Europcar. The lady at the rental desk was friendly and efficient, and upgraded us to a better car. The attendant at the pick-up point was extremely helpful, making sure we were happy with the car and its controls, and was also helpful when we returned, checking the car and taking the keys. A month ago I rented a vehicle from Europcar in France. As usual I gave my credit card number as a deposit but paid in cash upon returning the vehicle. No damage was done to the car, the tank was full and we were assured no charges would be made on the credit card. WRONG! I hired a car at Perth Airport on 15 April 2013 and signed an Agreement for a 4-day hire at a package price of AUD 162. I returned the car one day earlier but was invoiced and charged AUD 199 (i.e. AUD 37 more) for a 3-day rental! We picked up the vehicle @ Rome termini station EUROPCAR HIRE and return at Venice aiport. Had an advanced reservation. No one informed that there is a deposit of 300 euros for the car and if the credit card does not work will end up paying cash. This should have been referenced as part of the booking. I recently ordered a car hire through DO YOU SPAIN. As an agent they booked the car through EUROPCAR. The vehicle I ordered was based on the requirements of my family which included my wife, daughter, myself and our six month old grand daughter. I booked and pre paid for a car in Mallorca on the internet through Rentalcars.com only to find the pick up was with Europcar. I made a booking 10 days ago with Europcar to hire a large van for our house move this weekend. In September I booked a rental car for a 2 week holiday in Portugal. I booked through a company called 121 Car Hire (NEVER USE THEM EITHER). The rental was arranged with a company called Interrent who turned out to be part of Europcar (I didn't know this until I arrived there). After vast on-line research to find the best deal for my recent car hire in Israel I settled on Europecar as it appeared to be the best. Upon arriving I was told that my booking did not include any insurance at all and that if i wanted to take the car I would have to pay double of what I had already paid so that I would be able to drive the car. They appear to be cheaper than other companies but they will manufacture a reason to charge extra, in my case £190.00 for a new tyre which apparently had a screw embedded in it. This was not identified at the time of pick-up but after vehicle had returned to depot. Europcar proceeded to take this amount from my bank account without notice. I repeat DO NOT USE THEM. TERRIBLE experience. We booked a car for our trip to Cabo San Lucas through Expedia. When we got to their office in the airport we were told that they had no cars available. They offered to help us get a car through another company but the price was three times more. The price seems low, but I was charged twice in my credit card. Complained to the company, no answer. Complained to the credit company, the company immediately cancel my reservation instead of fixing the billing. Now I am a week away from travel, and have no car reservation and still have a charge of the double charge in my credit card. Staff handling email can't really write English. When I went to pick it up, a deposit of 250 pounds appeared, an extra 10 pounds was required as I only had the credit card part of my licence. None of this was on their website. I rented a car via rentalcars.com and the car was from Europcar. We prepaid about 215 EUR for one weeks rental in Spain. The car was undamaged and I even had bought the extra insurance, just in case. Upon returning home, I see that Europcar has charged my credit card an addition 225 EUR for Damages plus they have charged 150 EUR for the actual rental (which was pre-paid). I hired a car with Europcar but took out a separate Insurance Policy rather than pay the excessive cost of their own 'recommended' Collision Damage Waiver policy. The website was easy to use and the service was excellent. I booked via Argus Car Hire and Europcar honoured their price as well as my reservation deposit. I reserved and paid for a class A rental, but they were out so they gave me a Daihatsu Terios (not sure which class that is but it's certainly better than A) at no extra charge. Watch out their prices seem low - until you go to pick the car up and there's charges for additionals which you have to pay for up front. Hired a car. it ended up costing loads more than we thought. The service was terrible. It would have been cheaper and less hassle to go and buy a second hand car then give it away after we had finished with it. If you hire a car from Europecar from Funchal Madeira you will be charged for a full tank of petrol and expected to return the car empty. You will be given a contract that is only in Portugese and discover that you have been charged an extortionate amount for this petrol on your return. I rented a van on Tuesday for a day rental, returned it on Wednesday morning. By now (Friday) I had not gotten my £250 deposit back into my account and I am not sure when it would hit my account. It is only fair that Europcar pays the deposit back with an interest. 1st point is kwick fit replaced the tyre i checked there website and conti 215/45v17SPT3 is £128 fully fitted
2nd i did NOT have recovery
3rd admin charging is capitalising on someone's misfortune
i will NEVER rent from them again there rathes oho and ive lost my debit card and have had to call the bank to cancel it so hoapfully they wont be able to debit my account

I hired a car for 24 hrs at Heathrow. Set off down M25 and after 15 miles car came to a halt. No Petrol in car.No warning.Fuel gauge faulty. Firstly they said that because weston-super-mere was closer to portishead than bristol the delivery charge plus hire was £100 more than picking it up! NB Bristol is closer - this would appear to be a very clever way to get out of their "offer of free delivery under 15 miles". Seems we "shared" the same experience with that rude attendant in Malaga Airport : ) It certainly is not possible checking the whole car before accepting delivery. I am under the impression, that this approach is a standard procedure at least with the Malaga location - hopefully only for some cases // water under the spare tyre, I don't believe it //
