When I went to collect the vehicle at 3 pm it wasnt ready and was not dueback at the collection point until 5 pm and i had to make a return visit. National Car Rental give the impression that if you pay the £70 fuel deposit that fuel refills will be at 98p a litre in fact they charge £1.75 plus vat a litre for refilling which is a real rip off.I got no satisfaction from customer services

Hiring a car from National/Alamo at Carcassonne Airport has been the worst travel experience I have had. We queued outside portacabin 'offices' for 2 hours with two toddlers, no facilities, no where to sit, no where to eat, no where to go, nothing to see or do and when we finally got to the desk, no apology for our wait, no polite customer service and no car seats for the kids! We had booked 2 car seats for our boys and when we were handed the keys to the car we asked where they were. The staff ...

National Car Rental is a terrible company booked in belfast. during the four days of having the car the cover on the lock fell off which we did not know till arriving at our destination, thatwas if it was even on there to begin with. They never told us anything when returning it but took £125 off my card. for one the car was brand new so should be under warrenty and two would it really cost thet much.
    avoid them!!!!!!

Do not hire from Irish National Car rental, the car they gave us was old and in poor condition. While driving the centre console detached itself!

In addition they added personal accident insurance without our knowledge and refused to refund it when we queried after our rental.

Reserved a car online. National Car Rental left a message on my mobile a few hours later saying they didn't have a car for me at all. No attempt to actually reach me. When I returned the call I asked if they could tell me of another rental in town (since I didn't myself). No help there. The worst: They charged my card and didn't reimburse until I called 10 days later (I had to get home before I could check my statement). It's actually not their policy to reimburse unless it's requested! ...

I hired and pre-paid for a car from National Car Rental to be picked up on Xmas eve at 4pm from their Bracknell office in the UK. My plan for Xmas was to drive up to my girlfriend's in North Wales on Boxing day spend 3 nights there and then drive back down south. I was set to drop the car off at Heathrow on the 29th as I had to go away for a business trip.I arrived at the Bracknell office at 15:50 to find the office shut and the yard pad-locked. The customer service rep. on the phone line for ...

Rental from Basel Airport with National Car Rental was fine. But I returned the car full and (fortunately) kept the documents. On return home, I received a bill for 37.5 L of petrol (£65!), in which there were several discrepancies which proved beyond reasonable doubt that they had screwed up in Basel (confused two cars). I raised this with the Swiss office on 13/10/08, repeatedly (starting on 17/10/08) with the UK office, emailed scanned versions of the relevant documents (i.e., the invo ...

They provide a full tank of fuel on hiring the car and require that you return it full. Under no circumstance buy the full tank unless you are absolutely certain that you will use it all because it works out considerably more expensive. Took the car back half full and was charged for the full tank (which I naively agreed too) and noticed there was no refund on the pre purchase. Got home to find that they had charged me for a second time for another full tank as they said that I had driven more t ...

The website which i booked the car through had a special web offer price which enticed me to buy online. I stipulated a pick up and drop off point before asking for a price to be quoted and it quoted me £37. Brilliant! (i thought). When i got to the pick up point in Newcastle, the car was in Gateshead. Fortunately they had a similar car available. Then came the additional charges. £550 insurance waiver, £30 one way charge and the only one i knew about was the refundable fuel ...

Absolute joke, waited 4 hour for a vehicle to not show up ended up having to catch public transport home on Saturday at 4pm. So in future I will not call National I will call a cab.

Have rented from National / Citier in France a number of times. We were late for one flight back and didn't have time to refuel the car, I didn't realise just how much they charged for it - £77 for half a tank.

Had a vehicle from national on the Sunday by Wednesday found the horn wasn`t working, took it to the local depot and was told to go and ring AA.
Eventually spoke to customer service and they were only bothered about the tank not being full and wanting a litre for petrol. Eventually given smallest car in the world until bigger one was available. Was given bigger car next day and spoke to customer service. We were instantly refunded fuel cost and investigated problem. Was given her extension numbe ...

I booked a car online for the weekend using the internet pre pay facility, the rate was £45. When I came to collect the car I was told that there was a rental extension charge, even though the pickup and drop off times were exactly the same as I requested online.
The rental extension charge pushed the price to nearly £70, so an increase of more than 50%. When I asked about this I was told that customer services were closed and there was nothing I could do. So I cancelled the car re ...

Really poor service. We live in Florida USA and booked an automatic for two weeks at what we thought was a good price. We landed at the airport in Belfast, went to the rental desk where we were told "sorry we don't have any automatics" this was bad as only I can drive a stick shift, my wife never learned how to. So we were told we would get an auto the next day, but we didn't, nor did we get one for the two weeks! That € s not all, at the end of the first week, the car started to miss and chug. ...

In my experience what a shockingly bad, company! I booked online for a 10 day car hire in March 2008 with National Car in Panama City. Their online price was a fantastic $210 or so. When we picked the car up we were told that actually the price was about $490 - no proper explanation as to why there was such as huge discrepancy other than we'd booked through the global website rather than the Panama specific site. Needless to say we weren't very happy. The final price was more than double the p ...

Booked a car from Lyon airport National Citer in March via Holiday Autos. I had a confirmed booking. Had all paperwork completed, arrived at the car hire and we were off, complete with a set of snow chains as prev booked within 15 - 20 mins. The car was well prepared, the staff helpful (I speak reasonable French) and no probs at all. The hire centre was busy when we returned the car and so there was only a verbal exchange that the car had not had any damage and that the tank was full etc. I was ...

I reserved and paid my rental car over the web 2 weeks before my intended rental from National at Munich airport in Germany. After arriving at the rental desk I handed over the required documents (passport, driver's license, credit card). The staff took over 1/2 hour to tell me that they would not rent me a car. They also could not tell me a reason why, only saying their headquarters and Europcar's HQ (the company owning the cars) does not let them.
All of this being at Easter there were no c ...

Hired car from National at Toronto Airport for a 2 week holiday-luxury car booked/payed for via website. On arrival after a long flight from Heathrow with 3 young children, no car as booked available-tried to sell us a premium car( cheaper ) without refunding the price difference. Eventually after being left standing around in the car park for an hour or so ( seemed a lot longer with 3 tired and irritable children!) we asked whether we could hire the Ford Escape (4/4). This being the same weekly ...
