Good Points: Light, body of luggage is well built
Bad Points: Other parts are flimsy including zipper and wheels; also the warranty, as mentioned above, is not worth the paper it's written on
General comments: In brief: limited warranties mean nothing indeed I agree with the previous comments. I think there's a problem with responsibility of the repair center: I believe they are definitely biased towards NOT attributing defects to the manufacturer. It's probably a big hassle for them to get their work reimbursed - that or they get a fixed yearly amount for all the warranted repairs. The two wheels on my brand new carry-on Samsonite became crooked (the axle exited the mount) when I was lugging a lot of conference (heavy) material to my next flight. I would say I'm 95% certain that what happened is that the weight changed the shape of the luggage slightly and the wheels stopped turning. I noticed this BEFORE getting on the airplane. I kept dragging my luggage to avoid having to lift it. This created drag marks on the wheels. At the repair store, they informed me that most likely the wheels got jammed on a carrier belt and then went out of the axis. It's almost impossible for me to prove that this is not what has happened. It's especially frustrating because it was BRAND NEW. I don't recommend Samsonite to anyone and would like everyone to be warned that Warranties don't mean much, because almost everything could be attributed to the airline. I recommend that if you buy luggage, "test it out" (within "reasonable use") at home/in your street first. OR get luggage from a company that will repair ANY type of damage OR get really cheap luggage and buy into consumerism.

Awfully disappointing. Forget the branding and marketing! Now I look at Samsonite like at any other luggage brand. Here is why:You should look at lifetime warranty under a cost/benefit angle. If you need to ship for a price that compares to the product itself there is no point counting on it.Samsonite is the only luggage provider who's service was under every standard. I travel often(weekly) and have many luggages. I took one of my carry-on luggages to a certified repair center . They kept my lugg ...

We purchased a Samsonite Aeris on the back of the 10 year warranty. After it's 2nd use (and well within a year of purchasing the item) the case developed a hole in the shell. Despite contacting the original seller and Samsonite Head Office neither accept responsibility and the warranty is not worth the paper which it is written on. Both parties claim the fault lies with the airline handlers. We are now the sorry owners of an expensive case which is useless. Samsonite have compromised on qua ...

Samsonite Silhouette Spinner suitcases have great mobility on flat surfaces. Spinner mobility is great but fabric is not strong. It's unfortunate that we paid $400 for a spinner garment bag and a year later it has a big tear on the front. I put a guidebook in the front pocket for easy access. The handling at the airport and the weakness of the fabric caused a large tear in the front of the bag. I have been told that this is not covered under our warranty. Now I'll have to put a big patch on ...

Samsonite did not honor their warranty. Although they claim that the warranty covers defects in workmanship in fact almost anything claimed will be attributed to travel abuse. My Silhouette 9 had one zipper fall apart while another had the plastic teeth separate cleanly from the cloth backing at the thread holes -- this after 1-1/2 yr of moderate travel. The local warranty repair shop claimed that Samsonite would not consider this a defect in workmanship and suggested I call Samsonite customer s ...

The Samsonite luggage in question was a 26" roller bag. It was owned for only 5 weeks . The main zipper failed during the it's first air trip to Mexico. The bag was not overpacked and there was no real sign of airline handling abuse. In order to get back home I had to sew the plastic zipper ribbing back onto the cloth zipper backing in four locations, each about 2'' in length , on the two bottom corners of the bag. It was a temporary fix and the only thread available was the hotel sewing ki ...

We bought two lightweight Samsonite duffel bags, the ones with wheels and trolley handles to use as pull alongs. We did so because they were very light.
Bad mistake, for two reasons:
(i) The material used is totally inadequate for the base of the bag when used as a trolley (the bit it would stand on). This is just made of the material and has no solid support, so the bag falls over all the time when stationary. But much worse - we took them on ONE 14 day air holiday and when home found to ...

Samsonite luggage might be OK for visiting relatives once a year, but for air travel, forget it! It is flimsy and insecure, and it looks truly awful. I can't see it lasting for more than a couple of flights. Save a packet and get Delsey.

I travel a lot, and after a succession of cases coming off the carousel with split zips, bashed corners etc. I decided to invest in a decent case. Samsonite can be found at a good discount if you shop around, and I at last have confidence that my knicks won't be spilling out of the case for all to see! I've used mine on quite a few trips now & no probs so far - anyway, there's a good warranty with the case.
