My husband bought a brand new piece of luggage last June in St. Augustine, FL. After moderate use for his business travels, the handle has broken off. The store where we purchased it will have nothing to do with replacing it for us (what is a warranty for?), and at our expense we are expected to ship it to some repair center with no guarantee we will be charged for repair or if we will receive a replacement item. Where has the corporate customer service? How is it that the consumer somehow ends up forking out more money to a company that guaranteed its product? It is not worth the time and effort it would take to deal with this, so it is a loss. Highly advise other consumers not to purchase from this company again. Probably not even an American company now.

We bought a Samsonite Solana Spinner 75 cm from a Retail outlet some 75 miles from home whilst enroute to visit family in Dorset. On returning home with the new, unused case, we discovered that the lock on the case was faulty. We contacted the Customer services via the web site - in Belgium apparently!- who did not want to know and advised the onus was on us to take the case back to the store where it was bought - a round trip of 150 miles! The store in the retail outlet were equally uncompromis ...- Read Guest's review (204 words)

We bought a 75cm Solana spinner from a Samsonite Retail outlet some 75 miles from home en route to visit family. On returning home with the new unused case, we discovered the lock to be faulty. Samsonite advised the only course of action was to return the case from whence it was bought -despite our protestations at the distance involved and the fact that the case was faulty prior to use! I bought a Samsonite "Rolling Tote". Given the reputation of Samsonite and its "Lifetime Warrantry" I thought this would be a good buy. No way. After 4 months of light use, the extendable handle broke. I need the bag all the time. Samsonite said it would take 3 weeks to repair and did not care at all about my circumstances.
Further, although the guarantee clearly states they will repair and deliver to me, they insist that the guarantee means that I must go to the shop to pick the repaire ...- Read joseph1's review (109 words)

Having had my Samsonite trolley case for under a year, I'm disappointed to say it's now useless. Although the case is well used, I would not expect the wheels to become misaligned so easily on a product supplied by a company with Samsonite's reputation.
I've found the after-sales service shocking. They were offhand on the phone - even suggesting I "should have bought a spare"!
Sorry - if I spend £180 on anything, I expect quality and good service. I got neither.
Fair to say I'll never bu ...- Read Guest's review (104 words)

I am a frequent business traveller and bought a 47cm American Tourister Roll-on case at Zurich Airport. The case wasn't cheap but I was willing to pay for the Samonsite reputation and the extended warranty. After a few uses I noticed that the metallic badge on the front of the case was a little loose but thought nothing of it. It was a manufacturing defect but not impairing the functionality of the case. After six months I discovered that the top seam on the front pocket had seperated, clearly t ...- Read Guest's review (338 words)

In brief: limited warranties mean nothing indeed I agree with the previous comments. I think there's a problem with responsibility of the repair center: I believe they are definitely biased towards NOT attributing defects to the manufacturer. It's probably a big hassle for them to get their work reimbursed - that or they get a fixed yearly amount for all the warranted repairs. The two wheels on my brand new carry-on Samsonite became crooked (the axle exited the mount) when I was lugging a lot of ...- Read choesli's review (287 words)

Awfully disappointing. Forget the branding and marketing! Now I look at Samsonite like at any other luggage brand. Here is why:You should look at lifetime warranty under a cost/benefit angle. If you need to ship for a price that compares to the product itself there is no point counting on it.Samsonite is the only luggage provider who's service was under every standard. I travel often(weekly) and have many luggages. I took one of my carry-on luggages to a certified repair center . They kept my lugg ...- Read Guest's review (181 words)

We purchased a Samsonite Aeris on the back of the 10 year warranty. After it's 2nd use (and well within a year of purchasing the item) the case developed a hole in the shell. Despite contacting the original seller and Samsonite Head Office neither accept responsibility and the warranty is not worth the paper which it is written on. Both parties claim the fault lies with the airline handlers. We are now the sorry owners of an expensive case which is useless. Samsonite have compromised on qua ...- Read Guest's review (105 words)

Samsonite Silhouette Spinner suitcases have great mobility on flat surfaces. Spinner mobility is great but fabric is not strong. It's unfortunate that we paid $400 for a spinner garment bag and a year later it has a big tear on the front. I put a guidebook in the front pocket for easy access. The handling at the airport and the weakness of the fabric caused a large tear in the front of the bag. I have been told that this is not covered under our warranty. Now I'll have to put a big patch on ...- Read Guest's review (96 words)

Samsonite did not honor their warranty. Although they claim that the warranty covers defects in workmanship in fact almost anything claimed will be attributed to travel abuse. My Silhouette 9 had one zipper fall apart while another had the plastic teeth separate cleanly from the cloth backing at the thread holes -- this after 1-1/2 yr of moderate travel. The local warranty repair shop claimed that Samsonite would not consider this a defect in workmanship and suggested I call Samsonite customer s ...- Read warnest's review (120 words)

The Samsonite luggage in question was a 26" roller bag. It was owned for only 5 weeks . The main zipper failed during the it's first air trip to Mexico. The bag was not overpacked and there was no real sign of airline handling abuse. In order to get back home I had to sew the plastic zipper ribbing back onto the cloth zipper backing in four locations, each about 2'' in length , on the two bottom corners of the bag. It was a temporary fix and the only thread available was the hotel sewing ki ...- Read Guest's review (395 words and 1 comment)

We bought two lightweight Samsonite duffel bags, the ones with wheels and trolley handles to use as pull alongs. We did so because they were very light.
Bad mistake, for two reasons:
(i) The material used is totally inadequate for the base of the bag when used as a trolley (the bit it would stand on). This is just made of the material and has no solid support, so the bag falls over all the time when stationary. But much worse - we took them on ONE 14 day air holiday and when home found to ...- Read Mike Dunn's review (246 words and 2 comments)

Samsonite luggage might be OK for visiting relatives once a year, but for air travel, forget it! It is flimsy and insecure, and it looks truly awful. I can't see it lasting for more than a couple of flights. Save a packet and get Delsey.- Read traveller0001's review (50 words)

I travel a lot, and after a succession of cases coming off the carousel with split zips, bashed corners etc. I decided to invest in a decent case. Samsonite can be found at a good discount if you shop around, and I at last have confidence that my knicks won't be spilling out of the case for all to see! I've used mine on quite a few trips now & no probs so far - anyway, there's a good warranty with the case.- Read vivienyoung's review (92 words)
