I run a gameserver and i had problem with backdoors because of vBulletin vulnerability, i have bought Panda for server and Kaspersky for server that costs both more than 500$ but unfortunately they did not detect any single backdoor, now a friend of mine recommended clamwin and so i downloaded and found out its free! now after scanning with clamwin it found 15 backdoors including 8 phpspy backdoors! For me this is the best AV i can use, its free and it detects virus and backdoors that... (read more)

I hear everyone talking about the GUI and I always run it from a CLI. I use all the time VIA USB live installer and just test UBUNTU OS install and scan Windows partitions. I have never had much luck using the GUI. Cant beat the price and works for me. Overall I would say 8-10. (read more)

Although the product removed one piece of syware it didn't pick up on some sort of pop up that comes along whenever I open the ie browser, I'm also not the only one who has experianced the software reporting perfectly normal program files as virus' as it doesn't give any description of the virus it's also difficult to afirm.
i have unistalled the product as it slows down my lappy to know end, I've also experianced lots of programs crashing since using this product.

Clam win, the windows friendly version of clam AV, has more detail than a command prompt window. However, it has good detection and removal. Overall if you are a pc technician then this is the AV for you. If you are an average joe then go elsewhere. This product is also free. (read more)

ClamAV ClamWin maybe not best, but, on balance of resources vs protection, better than most. People who prefer other progs, have resources for it. I tried them all; AVG, Avira, Avast, SAS ... you name it. They ALL hog resources, slow things down terribly after a while ... and I still got infected. I'm very happy with ClamWin, coupled with other freebies. (read more)

It's plain no frills nothing fancy, no BS
It sort of reminds of a dos virus scanner that F-prot put out for years... it ran slow as well, but it was thorough and found viruses other programs couldn't find.
Well recommend ClamAV ClamWin.

Free (with optional donation) and stays free
Easy to use scheduler, with different drive scans scheduled at different times.
The entire interface is somewhat barebones, but everything is available via a tab.
Option to email virus scan results (good for scanning servers or infrequently used machines)
Scan on demand only - saves memory - but there is an option to scan web downloads and mail (which takes longer than Norton AV).
Doesn't attempt to block ports, etc (that's what a firewall is...

First of all its free and it works very well with systems that rely on more than one anti virus.I prefer to check my system with more than one anti virus and clam win makes an excellent second scanner to check your system with. I give it a ten. When I look for backups to a system that is vulnerable to attack and the people at clam win provide me with an excellent and very affective free alternative to the paid programs, I take my hat off to them and say thank you. Less effective in my experience. Norton Security Scan has better detection rates, removes viruses, and also doesn't hog system memory because it, like Clamwin, is an on-demand scanner only.
"Not very effective when compared to commercial AV but that's only a minor thing."
Do recommend ClamAV ClamWin.

The Clam anti-virus project is interesting, but not I feel adequate to provide front line protection to a PC on today's internet. The lack of any live coverage opens you to a multitude of nasties that more comprehensive packages would stop in their tracks. It also highlights a flaw in the open source concept, while programs like OpenOffice whose development is handled by a dedicated bunch of disparate code wizards is the pinnacle of the ethos. When it comes to security software I prefer to... (read more)

How are you going to complain about free with an optional donation? Roll out is easy if you don't have to worry about licenses. The ClamAC ClamWin anti virus software connects to most common email clients. (read more)

The open source aspect of this product is very appealing. Right from the start ClamWin looks clean and fresh.
Yes it is still being developed, but you can look at this both ways, constant development allows for constant enrichment.
As with all development software, it could potentially (although I've not had any problems), be buggy. Also remember that this is still very much a project, and as such relies heavily on donations and outside funding; this means that if the funding dries up, so...

Here's a point of advice: Use the right tool for the right job!

You use an antivirus to clean virus's from your computer, you use a spyware program (like Spybot S&D) to clean up malware/spyware/ad-ware
