Good Points: Emirates provide free meals to their transit passengers.
Bad Points: Too many to mention
General comments: We recently had the misfortune to have to spend 10 hours in transit in Dubai airport. It's like a giant transit camp! There are so few seats that there are literally hundreds of people stretched out on the floor under blankets. There are supposed to be 2 "quiet" lounges; one of these was closed when we were there (5th Sept 2008) and the other was jam packed with travellers suffering from appalling body odour!! "Lounge" isn't quite correct as it's simply a square off the main concourse and as such is noisy with bright lights. The plastic seats are very uncomfortable. The toilet facilities are inadequate with long queues forming at both men and women's toilets in the early morning.

I travel trough Dubai in 3-4 times a year and it still looks the same mess. People waiting for connection are sleeping all over the place. The whole airport is just like a homeless shelter because of the lack of seats. If your laptop runs out of power you have to sit on the floor next to the toilet entrance because that is the only place where you can find electrical outlets. Network coverage is acceptable. You can't find available seats in the food court either. You have to eat standing or wa ...

We went through Dubai airport recently and have to say I was very disappointed with the customer service. Everything seemed confusing, chaotic, no system in my view, no proper naming of the counters, if you can't speak decent English I wouldn't recommend transiting through Dubai airport. The airport is quite big, be prepared for lot of walking (so if you have a hand luggage you better have the one on the wheels). If you need visa make sure you arrange it upfront otherwise it's 3x more expensive. ...

Dubai International is still undergoing renovations, and has been for the last 4 years. The airport is quick to boast of large increases in the number of travellers, however virtually nothing has been done to the facilities to ease passenger congestion queuing, the lacks of seats, the lack of toilets or the overall cleanliness of the airport. It is unlikely that the new airport facility will be ready in the next 4 years, despite what the Govt of the land says.
Visitors waiting to greet passenge ...

Dubai International Airport has a good size duty free shopping area, and it is generally clean.
As with the rest of Dubai, the airport is currently undergoing construction. On both my transits to Birmingham to and from Sydney, the plane landed, taxied for ten minutes before stopping as far away from the terminal as possible, with a 25 minute bus transfer back to the terminal.
The staff at the currency exchange counter took a phone call instead of serving me.
The linear layout of the ex ...
