If you read the Amazon reviews you will see there is a BIG, BIG issue with fake PX 200s. There are user posted photos to help you make sure you have got/buy the real thing. The real ones are great with good sound quality, good bass (and thinnish) headphones. If you see a very cheap offer beware.

I've had my Sennheiser PX 200 headphones for 5 years (!) and am just replacing after snagging them and losing r channel :-( I did open 'em up and resoldered, but for £12 on ebay, I'm getting a fresh pair as the r channel isn't quite what it was.

If your phone/player has an equiliser, then they will kick the sound up a notch...I increase the bass and higher end (but NOT the highest end), so the spectrum is a wave with peaks at both ends.

With this I have INCREDIBLE sound out of these with full bass at the lowest ends and crisp detail at the high end.

The equiliser makes a BIG difference, but play around with your settings/sound spectrum and you can tweak it just how you like it.

    Very good price for these

I also have a Stax set and a valve amp and these hold up against these very well, given the price point and portability

Like the best quality equipment these headphones need to be "burned in" for over 20 hours to hear them at their best. Don't judge them when you have just taken them out of the box as the diaphrams need time to loosen. The you will get good Bass extension.

Brilliant product. Well designed with good sound quality. Needs a music player with a high quality sound output to take advantage of the product (most ipods and other music players I have tried these on, including my Sansa E280 have terrible sound quality despite my music being encoded at a high bit rate. Sounds absolutely brilliant on my $400 Panasonic portable cd player from years back even from mp3 playback)

It will survive a considerable amount of abuse for headphones as well. I am pleased with it nearly 2 years after purchase

I've been using the Sennheiser PX 200 headphones for almost two years and what i can say is that it is a great buy on its price range. I've tried using the default iPod nano 2nd gen headset for almost 2 months but after i bought this px200, my ipod has never been the same again. its good bass and nice treble will make you hear synthesizers and other musical instruments of a track that you can never hear with regular ipod headsets. I also agree that the bitrate and quality of the track being played is a big consideration because even if you buy the most expensive pair of earphones, you will never be able to enjoy music with poor quality of music file. PX200 also excludes outside music compared to ordinary ipod headsets and the only problem is that you'll get immune in time with how great this headphone sounds. I suggest if you feel boring listening with PX200, use your old and poor default ipod headset, and you'll know the difference and realize what you are not able to appreciate with PX200. if you're no longer satisfied with the clear and crisp sound of this model, i suggest you go for a more advanced model of sennheiser or bose if you have the budget.

    Over-all, i will give PX200 a rate of 9/10. great for its price =)

I waited a long time to get these for my birthday. I have been extremely disappointed with them, but as they were a gift (and I've thrown the packaging out) it looks like I'm stuck with them!!! I have tried various EQ settings on my iPod, but I cannot get anywhere near the same quality and bass with the Sennheiser PX200 headphones that I get from the standard iPod in-ear phones, so I've gone back to them.

Don't listen to all these people that tell you that you need to ditch your iPod headphones and spend money on new headphones to get the best sound........I'm starting to believe this is just some big marketing ploy that the headphone manufacturers are working. If you think about it, would Apple really give you bad headphones when you spend £300 on an iPod? Of course not! They want you to rate their product and continue to be a customer. That would be like buying a Ferrari with budget tyres!!

Overall, the Sennheiser PX200 headphones are a good product for the price. If your expectation is to obtain studio quality for a set of headphones from £23-£35, then think again. However, the PX 200 delivers adequate response, and generally performs very well.

I listen to a variety of music using my iPod; from classical, reggae, R&B and rock included, and these headphones have performed well. I believe that the quality of the sound is truly dependent on the source and the original quality of the recording. You could make the mistake that these headphones do not perform well based on a flat EQ. However, by selecting an EQ source that suits your musical preference, then you could change your point of view.

    Out of 10 - Bass: 7, Mid: 6, Treble: 7

I was a bit nervous about the quality of the Sennheiser PX 200 headphones before I got them, as I had read some bad reviews. I'm pleased to say though, that they have exceeded my expectations.

Fantastic sound and good quality build. They are obviously lightweight as they are only a small headphone, but the way that they are constructed doesn't cause me any concern.

Fantastic earphones! I think the people who have written bad reviews may have received a bad pair! I got mine off a website for only £27.99 as opposed to £39.99.

“Before I say anything: THESENNHEISER PX 200 HEADPHONES...”

    ★★★★☆

    written by Ravar on 31/12/2005

Before I say anything: THESENNHEISER PX 200 HEADPHONES NEED AT LEAST A 6 HOUR RUN IN (10 hour would be better)... after that... decent bass that is very articulate and punchy rather than deep. For example, Groove Armada hits hard, but Pendulum or other D&B has less throb and ultimate power than I'm used to. Bass guitar is clearly heard on most recordings and is fast and tight. Good! They do keep noise out better than many designs, but by no means are they sound proof - you will still know you're on the bus. The sound is clear clean and pleasant and is good with most types of music, excelling with punchy, pacy tunes - dance, trance, bands like the Killers etc. Less good with delicate acoustic recordings and other fragile music. I think this is down to the straight forward mids and muted highs that are not very extended. BUT, they are not unpleasant and harsh like many other designs. The soundstage too suffers as a result of the mids and highs, yet for £30 the soundstage is perfectly acceptable, and not a real issue for casual listening.

Overall, these are great for casual portable day to day use; very comfortable and an easy listen, but for serious enjoyment of and total involvement in tunes BUY GRADOS!

I'm a student of audio engineering, and I bought the Sennheiser PX 200 headphones with the intention of really enjoying the sound quality of the iPod better and not have to hold the earphones pressed in to get a bass response.

For £40 these have abysmal sound. Nowhere near the match of a standard pair of earphones. Big holes in the upper-mid frequency response, and no accuracy to bring the sound to life. I can barely believe these are Sennheiser! I'll be taking these back, and I hope they'll let me correct my stupid mistake of not getting the larger Sennheiser EH 350, which also cost about £40; and I've heard they sound excellent, and well worth the money.

Apart from sound quality, their construction seems cheap, and the ear pads are too thick and non-elastic, and so they get squashed into the sound output space and damage the frequency response further.

I think you are confusing everyone with your comments, describing the sound as "abysmal" and then spilling your severe criticism for PX 200, which I believe it possesses the quality and function that can be truly described as "abysmal".
You have to listen for yourself, and while listening through the PX 200. do switch back to your standard ipod earphones and....notice the the difference.... You don't need to be an expert to know what sounds good and what can be described as music to your ears... I just got mine today, they worth every penny...

Had the reviewer paid £31, or in some cases £28 for these headphones, would they have been so critical? That's what you can buy them for today on the internet. After all they are intended to be portable and compact which in itself does not sit well with a deep bass response.
Accurate positioning over the ears is important for good bass response with these headphones, and the important thing is their clarity and lack of distortion. Mp3 players come with graphic equalisers, so if you want more bass, tweak it up !

I received Sennheiser PX 200 headphones yesterday after trying a friends PX100's at work. After watching my work mate's nod along with the tunes I was listening to I knew I wanted the closed back design of the PX200's. I hate listening to other people's music spilling out of their headphones, so I try to be conscientious of others on the tube.

I plugged these into my ipod and was instantly disappointed - thin reedy sound and fairly uncomfortable fit. I left my ipod running to break these in a bit and after a few hours the sound got much better - better bass response and seemingly clearer.

The PX100's are slightly more comfortable and the sound is obviously 'airier' thanks to their open backed design, but these do a far better job of keeping your sound in, and keeping the outside sound out. I paid 30 quid for these on ebay - I am happy to say I think they were well worth the money.

“Sennheiser PX200 - I pretty much bought these...”

    ★★★☆☆

    written by Martigan on 10/09/2004

Sennheiser PX200 - I pretty much bought these headphones on the strength of the reviews here, but I must say I am disappointed in them. Sure they give a good quality of sound, they fold up nicely and you don't even notice that you are wearing them, they are so comfy.

But - when I compare them with my standard 4G iPod bud phones they just aren't as good. The volume isn't there and they lack the roundness of sound that I was hoping for. The sound is crystal clear, but the bass is somewhere off in the distance. I mostly listen to Reggae, for which bass is an established artform and these phones just don't deliver in the way they are billed as doing. Again my iPod buds carry that bass far more nicely.

As for them blocking outside noise, it just ain't happening. On the top deck of a London bus I could hear conversations downstairs, and the Underground is just a noisy as ever.

I wouldn't usually be griping, except they cost me £35 and I should have just stuck with the iPod buds.

Have a cry. I woudn't blame the headphones, I use 515's with my creative Muvo2 FM and it even drives them well enough. I don't like the iPod sound quality. The pre amp in it isn't that good. Solution: dump the ipod.

I seem to agree with Martigan. Not so impressed with them either.

I bought them after using a pair of Sony in ear earphones, thinking I could finally put them away thinking the PX200 would do better.

The PX200 lack the base and punch I've grown used to. They're even a bit softer than my little Sony pair.
