Good Points: Worked out of the box, played DVD movie fine, played mp3 through my 16-year-old desktop speakers from a burned data disk with great sound (compared to decent PC speakers), played picture-music presentation nicely 1st attempt ever with first freeware program I downloaded.
Bad Points: Does not read text... folder names, mp3 file names.
General comments: JVC XV-S300 - Bought mainly for mp3s. Best Buy salesman said it read text file names for navigation. Doesn't do it. Folders/files are only numbers. A real negative for me. I can probably do a work around, but even many low-end mp3 portable disk players have this vauable function. Other than that as a first experience with a DVD player (and not owning a state of the art TV system) I have no complaints. Should have returned to store in time & eduated the well-meaning sales guy a bit.
