Good Points: We liked the kind and competent flight attendants: always polite, spoke English well, available. The food was good--there was enough of it and a nice variety of items. The flights departed and arrived on time, and baggage claim was easy.
Bad Points: On an 11 hour flight from Honolulu to Taipei, we were horrified to discover that on our aircraft, an Airbus A340, every window seat had a metal box, about the size of a shoebox, was affixed to the wall in front of the seat such that the person in the seat could not put his left foot down in a comfortable place. My traveling companion had to twist herself into two different kinds of pretzel in order to give her legs some stretching (and she's only 5'3"). Who designed this feature of this aircraft? We will never fly on this model of aircraft again. Another problem with this plane, again at the window seat: instead of room to extend one's shoulder and head into the space by the window, there is a gap that seems to serve no purpose other than to force the passenger who wants to sleep, to put all their pillows on this shelf to make it usable, to the peril of the rest of one's body. One last thing: on an otherwise good flight home, my video screen didn't work. Only one channel came through.
General comments: All in all, it was fine for me, but not for my companion. The only big problems were aircraft-related. We had a stroke of good luck on the return flight: the Airbus was unavailable, so we had to "settle" for a Boeing 747. The flight home was quite comfortable, even though the plane was full and I was wedged into a middle seat. We would fly China Air again.

Flew business class from Gatwick to Taipei via Schipol and Bangkok. Planes were immaculate, staff superb, champagne chilled. All in all superb. Great food, excellent staff, superb service, fantastic lounge in TAipei and Bangkok. No bad points,, but had to fly BA from Gatwick to Schipol and Schipol to Gatwick, and BA are not very good in my opinion..

The ticket price was excellent, but they must improve on the human factor their staff. They all need to improve their ways of talking. Even the cabin announcements in English were pathetic! Boarding was a kindergarden treat; had to present my boarding pass 3 times and still they forgot to take my flight coupon. Then one chinese staff came to my seat and made me feel like a criminal, trying to cheat the airline. No apology when they found out that my ticket was found already! Very embarrassing!!!

Flying on this airline was worse than riding a Greyhound Bus across the Pacific Ocean. I recommend you spend the extra money and use another airline!

I Flew China airlines 4 times this week, and after reading the negative safety and comfort views, I was very very surprised. Each flight was exactly on time and ground and cabin staff were professional, courteous and well spoken in English. The aircraft was SPOTLESS and smelt very fresh. The crew made economy passengers feel as royalty.
Some distinguishable positives include:
Paramount Touch screen In flight entertainment system
Exterior camera
foot massage roller/ rest
Cabin service
and R ...

Although the cheapest way to get to Thailand from Europe this is definitely not the way to travel. Pay a bit extra and you will be well rewarded.

After reading all the bad reviews on this airline after I purchased tickets to travel from Australia to the US I was alarmed and very nervous about flying with them.
The fact was all this stuff I was reading was unfound in my case.
We flew from Sydney to Taipei and return in a new Airbus and from Taipei to Los Angeles and return in a modern 747 aircraft. Both aircraft were extremely clean and both had VOID video systems in them with excellent choices of movies. The real surprise was th ...

For a 10 hour flight in the modern day I expected to have a choice of TV shows/films and radio stations. However the China Airlines plane was very old and there were only cinema style screens with poor picture quality and and the way back the sound kept cutting out. The radio stations had no popular western music either. On the outbound journey the lights above our seats didn't work and we had to make do with a torch. Also my friend was seated next to an emergency exit which bulged inward, l ...

I have traveled to SE Asia five times in the past two years and my experience with China Airlines has been great. I have found myself altering travel dates just so I can fly China Airlines. US Airline Companies do not, in any way, compare to the high quality of service, professionalism, meals and on-board entertainment, which is found on China Airline flights. I could not give a higher recommendation.

The food was OK, and so was getting back into Amsterdam. Unfortunately, the films and the China Airlines staff attitude were very poor. I had an extra legroom seat, but the bulk head seat had a massive box in front, so I couldn't stretch out.

I've been flying on China Airlines for about 10 years or more, and I've also experienced different classes on the flight. This year they took 2nd(or is it 3rd?) place on a international flight ranking society. The food served on flight has variety(even in economy), and they actually taste like meals you can have on the ground. The entertainment is undeniable, variety of music selection (although many chanells are Asian music) and movies even on a short flight (2-3 hours). Snacks are served inste ...

The China Airlines crew were very polite and professional The flight was on time. Nothing exceptional about the flight, but overall a very good experience. Excellent value for money - from San Francisco to Bangkok for $600!
