Good Points: An awesome tongue-in-cheek splatter fest. Truly outstanding!

Bad Points: Unfortunately the DVD does not contain any extra features.

General comments: Bad Taste - Synopsis: "The film is set in a small coastal town, where a specialist government group called AIDS have been called in to investigate the disappearance of all the townsfolk, following a UFO sighting. Unfortunately, the town has been taken over by aliens, who have killed the town's population, and turned them into their own favourite brand of fast food. What starts as a routine investigation, ends up in a massive gun fight. They discover the aliens' spaceship, cunningly disguised as a nearby building, and a massive battle erupts". This is director Peter Jackson's (Braindead, Meet The Feebles, Heavenly Creatures, Frightners & Lord Of The Rings Trilogy) first ever full-length film which was shot on weekends over a four-year period with friends playing the lead roles. Jackson funded most of the film himself until towards the end of the shoot when the New Zealand film commission gave him money to finish his project after being impressed with what he'd already produced. The entire movie was apparently improvised. The blood sweat and tears that went in to creating this B-movie masterpiece is incredible. It is a non-stop, laugh-a-minute, splatter film packed with so much humourous script, you'll find yourself quoting it over and over again. All the dialogue in the film was actually dubbed after the original sound tapes went missing. The dubbing is done really well, not detracting from the feature at all. Peter Jackson plays the role of Derek with such over-acting that it's nothing short of genius. Every single person who has seen this movie has loved every minute of it. The film was originally brought out by Wingnut Films back in 1989 and has since had a huge cult following. It is out fully uncut on Region 2 PAL DVD with a 4:3 screen ration (full frame). Unfortunately the DVD does not contain any extra features which is bizarre as the 'Making Of' documentry 'Good Taste' would be the obvious choice to include. Also, this is a perfect film for a commentary from the people who put so much heart and soul into making the film. But alas no, there's nothing! I'm sure at some point they will release a collector's version with loads of extras, but at the time of writing this, there is no news of it.
