“Got too big for itself and service has plummeted”

Started with them a year ago and the service was really very good. Then they took over another company web hosting company, and then the problems started. It is now almost impossible to contact customer support and get someone to look at any problems you are having. The latest is the email fiasco. The young lady suggested I save a lot of my own time and pay the £99 fee for them to set up my website. We have migrated over from another provider, whose support was in India! Gemma from Customer Support here has been really helpful in getting us set up, and speaks English!! So far I have found them to be nothing but helpful and doing everything they say they will. Our new site is not ready to go live, but I am very happy with them so far. I have had a website with EKM for about 2 years and have had problems all the way. The latest is that they recently changed the mechanics behind the scenes and in so doing lost loads of delivery charges. This means I am exposed to losing profit on already tight margins. The new system takes an eternity to add the individual delivery charges and with over 400 products with lots of varients it's going to take weeks to do. Six clicks and 2 sliders to do one addition! Their very rude staff can hurry you up & tell you they have to answer other calls. They tell lies & make up poor excuses to scare you into paying for their SEO & other services. The 7 day up and selling promise is more like 7 weeks & if anything goes wrong they take days to answer emails. I would not touch them with a 10ft bargepole! we use ekmpowershop as a trade site and is not public facing and it perfectly for us. This should be a feature that ekm market their product for. The interface is excellent and very easy to use, and pretty much does exactly what we want and how we want it do it. The only issue I have is in the last 12 months or so it has become harder to actully speak to someone in support. Actually EKM is quite a good product, but the support is absolutely terrible. I have a couple of shops with EKM which there are lots of little problems - normal stuff nothing too dramatic - but the customer service is awful. 0844 premium number which they never answer in under 5-10 minutes of waiting on hold - get someone really unhelpful who makes no effort to understand the problem. Having failed myself in setting up my shop properly Gemma from customer support soon sorted everything out. My advise would be to contact customer support at the very beginning if you get stuck. If you are like me, and don't know what you don't know, then a quick run through by customer support soon sets your mind at rest. Hopefully sales will now follow and the fifth star will be achieved! I spent a fair while looking for an ecommerce platform before going with ekmPowershop. The fact they hold webinars, have great support guides and videos sold it for me. Support do get busy in peak times (lunchtime especially!) But this is the same as most company helplines so I expect it. Good thing is that if you have something urgent, stick it on the forum or drop them an email and they'll jump on it at all hours, especially when I've managed to brick my site a few times....... Found editing to be a headache and minefield, I actually used opencart before and found this quite easy to use and change and edit, but to many ekm elements for my liking, found it very stressful, and although they have a few web templates they are all pretty basic, the ones they show you of customers, are ones they paid to have developed. Price is middle of the road, its ok for beginners, but a bit basic, and yet to see results as still currently using, so if my sells increase or not!!!! (read more)

Some good features. Many many old templates with just a handful of ok looking ones that clearly have been made more recently. It is ok for people new to e-commerce who don't mind if their site looks like a thousand others. The templates are not as easy to edit as they like to make out. I found the CMS ok to use.
