this place should be shut down. Animal cruelty galore. Made my wife really sad
and I came away wanting to break out the animals. The bear was like something you see in a foriegn country where they have been making them dance, it was broken, just rocking from side to side. The monkeys looked suicidal, even on the postcards. all of the enclosures were shabby and badly maintained apart from a few. Great day out for the family.......not a huge zoo when compared to Chester but Welsh Mountain Zoo still has many varied animals. The 3 Bears which you pass on the way in are lovely to watch, especially when they dig a pit, throw themselves down on their backs and scratch contentedly.Lovely!.

I have visited the Welsh Mountain Zoo twice now and enjoyed both visits. There are entertaining Penguin walks, bird of prey displays and Sea Lion shows, which the animals seem to enjoy. It is photographer-friendly, but there is a lot of wire fencing to focus out for most exhibits.
Good adventure play area for children, good for school visits.

I have been to the Welsh Mountain Zoo quite a few times, and when I was younger I enjoyed it a lot (I loved the adventure playground). Going back recently though, I think it needs some updating, and some of the animal enclosures look a bit old. However, there are quite a lot of animals and a good pets corner for the kids. Entertaining sea-lion, chimpanzee and bird of prey shows. I also found the staff very helpful (willing to answer questions about animals etc. (read more)
