Good Points: Quiet, reliable and economical on gas. Cheap to insure and looks a dream.

Bad Points: Rear vision could be better.

General comments: I bought my Renault 19 RNI 1.4 only about a month ago for a very low price. I wanted a good cheap runner and would have settled for almost anything. What I actually got was a very nice car.

Starting from the outside, the bodywork has certainly lasted with very little rust or damage. The car is a 1993 so you'd normally expect something more than a couple of patches under the rear wheel arches anyway!

The car has obviously been very well looked after. After my purchase I took it in for a full service and multipoint check and the only things it failed on was a near-bald offside tyre and a rusty backbox. The repair job came to only £50 which I was very happy about, probably cheaper if you can do that yourself.

It is a very enjoyable ride and handles large journeys beautifully. The mileage is a bit high which was my initial primary concern, over 170,000 to be precise, but even so it seems to hum on with little problem or noise.

The gearbox can be a little sticky on a cold start as can the acceleration of the vehicle for the first 5 minutes or so, but apart from that there are no real issues at all. The interior is quite lux for a family runner and the stereo isn't bad.

The car is also equipped with an immobiliser, power steering and an electric sunroof. It isn't the fastest car in the world, but it is extremely practical and a real showpiece in family car terms.
