“Visited the BLUE JOHN cave a couple of weeks ago....”

Visited the BLUE JOHN cave a couple of weeks ago. Fairly dissapointed on the whole. We got the same tourguide as 'Profairy' and found him boring not just monotunous. He even rebuffed one lady for asking a question whilst half way through his talk in the dining cave! Toilet facilities are like something I would expect at a football ground in the 1970's Gents toilet consisted of a trough that only gets flushed when it rains. The gift shop was Ok but the staff are obviously related to Mr grumpy tour guide as they were not much better. A cup of tea for 80p seemed a good idea until it arrived in a very small plastic cup that would normally come out of a machine, this was only about 3/4 full as well.

On the whole not impressed with the entire experience and at £25 for a family ticket I really did expect a little more in the way of modern toilets and a decent cup of tea, with friendly staff! We will not be going again!

I drove from Manchester and on arrival entered the Blue John Mines shop which appeared to have four members of staff two male two female. I asked the elder of the two females where i paid, expecting normal staff courtesy she was discouraging and ultimately completely unhelpful, i left disappointed and went for a short walk on returning to find out yet again what time the tours were she made a remark concerning my status. I asked her why she was unhelpful she implied she was not concerned with my request for information as she was busy, but added the word if i was upset she was sorry if was the word that prompted my response as the person concerned was not apologetic at all. This was for information as to when the tour began and where to pay. the member of staff said you cannot go on your own and seemed to find the with holding of information amusing i left as i have worked for the national trust in the service sector in the past and responsible customer service was expected by both customers and staff even at the bottom end of the pay spectrum. i did not get to see the mines and if that is the quality of the service i shall be doing my best to make it to discourage people from visiting your shop.
