Has been with me since 2004 and still ticking no complaints
Overall can do almost what a desktop can, well recommend the HP Compaq NX 7000 laptop. Infact the only bad thing I have to say about it is there is not enough memory on the graphics end but adequate for minimal gaming.

“Hello, ”

Hello,

The Labtop is functional and beautiful BUT the CD drive is so noisy comparing to the total silence of the machine. I'd like to know if somebody noticed the same bad point.

Thanks

“I've received 2 of these HP Compaq NX 7000 laptops....”

★★★☆☆

written by Stephen B on 16/12/2003

I've received 2 of these HP Compaq NX 7000 laptops. Number 1 machine had a duff keyboard (wobbly keys top left hand corner & a nasty "clacking sound")and poorly moulded bezel around the mouse pad (dips, bumps etc. in the plastic. Number 2 arrived with a dent in the aluminium lid and a stuck red pixel. The machine cost nearly £1400 ( I think around $1700) and the retailer gave me a rebate of £100 in compensation. Well, I suppose that's ok - but I never really felt that I had a perfect new laptop. I think HP pay people in Thailand next to nothing to make these things, make a big fat profit and don't really care whether or not western customers get a good deal. So what's new?

I have used over the years Tosiba's IBM and Sony's, but this is what a laptop should be. The HP Compaq NX 7000 is both beautiful and a functional computer. I love the touch pad. The scroll key is very useful.
I would give the HP Compaq NX 7000 9.7 of 10

“The HP Compaq nx7000 is the latest of a new generation...”

★★★★★

The HP Compaq nx7000 is the latest of a new generation of widescreen laptops, ideally suited to multi-taking and working with multiple documents.

Many of these laptops are either very expensive (Sony) or have poor build quality (Dell). On some such as the Evesham Cinebook, the screen resolution is limited.

By contrast, the nx7000 is beautifully built. The chassis has minimal flex and is solid. The keyboard is well laid out, with a double-height Enter key. The trackpad works well enough but even more sensibly comes with an "off" switch to avoid accidental tapping during prolonged typing. A USB notebook mouse is still the best option.

The screen has an amazing 1680 by 1050 pixels which, combined with Windows XP Cleartype makes reading on screen text like reading a printed book. It is important to use a 120 DPI Advanced Monitor setting otherwise the system fonts are too small to read easily.

Centrino works well, with fantastic connection speeds even at 802.11b settings. All modalities are available: wireless, bluetooth and IR. Battery life seems good - I have only used it for 3 hours so far.

The only downside is that there is hardly any bundled software. This is one of HP's "Business" machines and HP think that business users already have their own software licences.
