When my daughter who lives in Western Australia had a baby by Caesarian my wife went out to be with her for four weeks I followed later to spend the last two weeks with them. When I arrived at my daughters home I collapsed and was rushed to hospital. I was found to have had a Subarachnoid Haemorrhage and was in a critical condition and not expected to live. Despite being in severe shock and distraught my wife contacted AXA who provided our travel insurance under the terms of our Lloyds TSB Gold...

When I was taken ill in Western Australia although there was an AXA office in Sydney, who took all the details from us, they later refused to handle our case and said we must deal with the Barcelona office in Spain where there is an 8 hour time difference so communication was near impossible. It covered the Ash cloud even though we recently had the eruption, they also covered us for my partners Apergers Syndrome and My asthma which many travel insurers would not touch and if they did cost around £300-£350, covered legal expenses and also some sport activities. All together it cost us with our medical condition £117.69 for a whole year it was amazing. They dont post out documents they send it via email or you can...

I thought I should write about our experience with Axa. My Dad fell ill in Turkey in March. By the time Mum called me and I had flown out he had been unconscious in ITU in a private hospital for 3 nights - the turkish docs said suspected recurrent tias, major stroke and associated pnuemonia. He looked awful, I couldnt communicate easily with the medical staff and I was worried he was going to die there. I had a similar experience 4 years ago when my husband died while we were on holiday in New Zealand. He had a stroke and was in hospital 3 weeks. My biggest problem was getting the doctor to sign that he had been fit to travel - they weren't arguing with the fact, but insisted it was confidential information! Once I got through that hoop AXA paid out everything I claimed. I had to provide receipts or evidence of everything spent but having done that they paid out without problems. I just wish the companies I later had to deal with in England re my husbands estate had been as helpful. That was a nightmare of red tape!
